  1. Terms and Conditions is something almost everyone accepts without reading or thinking about it, whether it is for a new app, new email, or even booking a vacation online. The most recent terms and conditions that I have accepted is from the new Facebook messenger app. I, like many others, did not even scan the first line of the terms and just quickly tapped accept on my smart phone. After reading these terms, which took me a good forty-five minutes to complete, my opinion on this app has greatly changed.

  3. For starters Facebook states that by agreeing with them, they are allowed to give all of your information to any connections (brands, sponsors, etc.). They then go on to say that will only give that information to advertisers with the users consent, but then say that they do not consider some connections as advertisements. Those statements basically translate to myself as saying that they will give my information to any company without my consent and if I were to say anything about it they could turn it around and say they do not consider that company an advertisement. Facebook has written their terms in a way that no matter what they will essentially off the hook when it comes to privacy issues with their users.

  5. Another issue I have found with their terms is that they have stated they can access your cookie information from your own computer. For example, lets say you were researching the best new toothpaste to try out, and then you take a break and log into Facebook and see Crest and Colgate ads throughout your timeline. You see these ads because in the terms you agreed to allow access to your personal stored information. Facebook stores this information as well and it can be later accessed by third parties and could potentially be used against you. I believe this to be a huge violation of privacy and something that all users should be aware of.

  7. In the future, I will thoroughly read through the terms and conditions before I click accept. This exercise has opened my eyes to realize that my personal information is no longer personal. I believe that there should be stricter privacy laws set for internet users in the privacy of your own home. I think it is very important to realize what you are allowing people access to on the internet and realize that after you accept certain terms there is not much you can do about your information.
