- I just don't fathom the cloying, worshipful hymns of praise to Obama as he leaves. He did some good things and some bad things. Major good things were not-single-payer Obamacare, protecting some social goods and the environment, and a modest recovery. Major bad things were bombs and drones, protecting all banksters, and semi-conservative TPP-style corporatism. But I do think the disappointment with his actual performance as opposed to the hype had something to do with many not voting, since they didn't want to be snookered a third time. Liberals who worship Obama because he looked suave are emotionally the same as conservatives who hated him for being black. No substance either way.
- Yes, he was a very pretty speaker and actor, but his accomplishments put him between mediocre and passable as a President. That's hard fact and I am completely certain that's how historians at a distance will judge him
- I suspect all the praise is due to two things. One - compared to Trump anyone is Jesus. Two - the most praiseful folks are reasonably well off intellectual liberals who were easily impressed by his Reaganesque Style. Unfortunately, those who are still suffering terribly in his pro-corporatist, trickle-down economy obviously had a different view on election day.
- Given all that, I can fathom the nostalgia that makes Obama look heavenly compared to the awful Trump. But I hope the reaction to all this will someday be the election of an Actually liberal President.
