fuck you and your "real punx" attitude

I'm already up to a stage in life that I do not care at opinions of others on certain topics. Among these are comments I'm not "punx" enough. I wasn't aware
that there are certain criterias you have to meet to be a "punk", but I've narrowed it down:


a)You have to listen to street punk only, especially those from the UK. Mandatory hearing material includes The Exploited, GBH, and Sex Pistols. Other kind of punk music, which includes anarcho punk like Crass, skate punk such as NOFX / Agent Orange, hardcore punk such as Minor Threat/ Black Flag, pop-punk such as Goldfinger / Guttermouth, ska-punk such as Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Riot Grrl bands like Bikini Kill or Sleater-Kinney, or bands such as TSOL, Social Distortion, DI, Pennywise are only for poser punks. If you listen to RAC, it makes you more punk in the eyes of these narrow minded fucks.


b)You have to wear a leather jacket, tight pants, and doc marts. Please. If I wear tight pants I'll have no space for my balls. After all I'm used to wearing
Chucks with jeans/shorts.


c)You can not listen to other genres. For me this is stupid because I knew that various inspirations were taken make punk rock. I know that punk rock is a "back to basics" genre but as long as Johnny Rotten, Joe Strummer, Colin Blythe have been alive, don't they ever listen to other kinds of music before punk came along? Of course they do.They must have listened to Black Sabbath, The Who, Stooges, David Bowie, etc. And in a related note, if you like indie music that makes you poser punk in their eyes. Fuck off. If they knew the history of indie music, they would've knew that indie music was inspired by punk rock. Ignorance rears its ugly head again,
folks.

d)You have to be racist. I still can't figure this one out up until now . Darby Crash who is known as a fascist wasn't even a racist, his close friend / guitarist Pat Smear has black, white and native american heritage. And there are a lot of non-white punks out there, with hispanics in bands such as Los Crudos and Suicidal Tendencies, the all-black Bad Brains, and Joey Ramone is a fucking jew. If you're a racist, please stop listening to multi-racial, anti-racist bands. stop wearing their t-shirts. Go and listen to Skrewdriver until you're deaf.You have to remember that a lot of punk bands infuse foreign cultures into their music. Bands like Against All Authority, Rancid, The Clash, Big Boys, etc, infused ska, reggae, dub, funk, etc into their music.  Have you even listened to And Out Come The Wolves or Sandinista?

e)You have to be poor. FYI, Joe Strummer came from an ambassador's family. So using same logic, doesn't that make him a poser?


f)You have to smoke ciggarettes, drink beer and take drugs at the same time. To these guys, straight edgers are posers. I don't give a fuck if you do it, just leave me out of it. I'm just too lazy to do any of those because I have a family history of people who smoke cigarettes, and died in delightful ways such as cancer, heart attacks, and a stroke or two. I'm pretty sure you don't want to die young anyway, right?


I really hate people who think like this. And do you know what's the best part about these "real punks"? Chances are they don't even contribute to the punk scene. All they ever did was wear their precious GBH t-shirts with studded jackets and leather boots, listen to Exploited all day and go to gigs organized by their friends and get wasted again.

These people don't run distros, or indipendent recording studios, or created zines, or even print t-shirts. Or call up bands from overseas, support them, tour with them, help them in anyway possible with cash or equipment. They people just have gigs kat home which includes only them and their dickhead friends. Don't even expect them to support causes taken up the punks such as women's rights, immigrant rights, animal rights, worker's rights, etc. If anything, they're probably more conservative that their parents, only they tend to be bigger assholes.

In fact, I've heard they labelled prominent folks in the punk scene for being poser, Felix Havoc from Code 13, because he's an anti-racist, Fat Mike, because he runs his own distro, Greg Ginn, because he didn't dress up as "punk", never mind that the band he created helped shape hardcore punk. To these "real punks", I have only one thing to say. Go suck your own dick, and go choke on it.
