  1. Hello,
  2.
  3. Thank you for contacting HostGator. We have received your request to change the primary domain of your hosting package. We now provide the ability for you to make this change yourself via your billing account for no charge. Please review the rest of this email for important information before making this change. For instructions on making the change yourself, please see: http://support.hostgator.com/articles/billing/account-changes/how-do-i-change-my-domain-name-on-my-account
  4.
  5. Changing the domain name requires that the domain name you are changing to is removed from the server. Please ensure the new primary domain name does not exist on the server as an addon domain or parked domain of your primary or any sub-account cPanel. For more information, please see:
  6. http://support.hostgator.com/articles/cpanel/how-do-i-create-and-remove-an-addon-domain
  7. http://support.hostgator.com/articles/cpanel/what-is-a-parked-domain-how-do-i-create-and-delete-one
  8.
  9. Changing the domain name on the account will only change the primary domain name on the specific cPanel. This will still show the files from the previous domain name on the new primary domain name. You will be required to move the files if the new primary domain name was an add on domain to the main public_html folder for the new primary domain to properly display.
  10.
  11. If your new domain already exists as the primary domain of an existing sub-account cPanel, you have two options to be able to make this change properly:
  12.
  13. 1. Remove the sub-account through your reseller WHM. The domain name can then be made without any conflicts. Please note, all data contained in the sub-account will be lost. Please make any needed backups prior to removing the sub-account.
  14.
  15. 2. We can simply change which cPanel account is your primary reseller cPanel. You would then use the username and password of the cPanel with the new domain to login to your reseller WHM. Please note, you will need to recreate the hosting packages you offer for new sub-accounts. Existing sub-accounts will maintain their existing packages.
  16.
  17. If you choose option #1, you may either make the domain change yourself or we can make the change for you, after you have removed the sub-account. If you choose option #2, we will need to make the change for you.
  18.
  19. Please also be aware that this does not include the actual registration of the domain and we cannot be held responsible for any problems associated with this change.
  20.
  21. If you would like for us to make the change for you, please let us know how to proceed. If you have any further questions, or need clarification on any of the above, please do not hesitate to let us know.
  22.
  23. Sincerely,
  24.
  25. Jason S.
