  1. Hello class,
  2.
  3. Here is the latest on the Research Project and Presentation. I am hoping that you have all started working on this.
  4.
  5. Meanwhile, we are going to have a test on 23 Feb 2011. Since I do not want you to be working on the Project Proposal (PP) during the week when you should be studying for the test, the Proposal will have to be done this week. Since there is not much heavy reading at the end of Chap 2, this is ideal. Here is the PP first stage instructions.
  6.
  7. 1) You must use either NVU or SeaMonkey Composer, to write the proposal. The proposal must be an html file. Do not use MS Word or any other word processor to produce html files. They are large and cumbersome. I will be reading them using my browser (e.g. Chrome) and I need small files.
  8.
  9. 2) The PP is due no later than midnight Sunday, 20 Feb 2011. I give you until the weekend instead of Wed or Fri because I do not want you to miss class if you did not do the PP.
  10.
  11. 3) The PP must be at least 2 pages. It is a standard that a page (standard 12 pt fonts, standard margins etc) is 250 words. So count them if you are not sure if you have two pages.
  12.
  13. 4) The links to the pdf files from (i) STallings, (ii) Tanenbaum and (iii) Schiller have already been shown to you and can be found via the BlackBoard page. This is your start. Stallings and Tanenbaum are big names in computer science education and you cannot do better than to start reading these first. Schiller has a special book telephone and I will be using these notes later to explain things like CDMA etc.
  14.
  15. 5) Do all the rest of your research on the Web. Do not use books other than the links I gave. Put your references (e.g. URLs) to the Web pages at the bottom of the PP. You must use at least 3-5 other references in addition to the ones I gave. The ones I gave are there just to give you some idea of what to look for. After you have made some decision, then look for URLs. Wikipedia is an excellent resource.
  16.
  17. 6a) When you finish email them from your MSU account (No other account) because I can see the student from the email sender field.
  18. 6b) On the Subject line put; (i) Project Proposal (ii) Section #
  19. 6c) Email to hubeev@gmail.com or hubeyh@mail.montclair.edu
  20.
  21. There will be no exceptions made. I will deduct points for making the PP too short, or tardy submissions.
  22.
  23. Good Luck!
