  1. Since the 1947 partition with Pakistan, Indias has become one of the most prolific developing countries in the worls, thanks to economic sectors such as agriculture, textile or technology. However, numerous factors are still slowing down the burgeoning of India's economy.
  2. So we may wonder what those factors are and how do they interfere with the poorest's social situation in India.
  3. To answer this question, we first need to have a look at the development of India. Its population is around 1.2 billion inhabitants, and it's still growing, giving India a chance to have the most important democraphic powers in the world in a few years. The technologic improvement is effective in places such as Bangalore and the film industry in Bollywood may be the most important one in the world.
  4. But here is the problem, this success cannot be divided equally in society such as India's. In deed, this country has to cope with the caste system, dividing the country into 5 classes, where the Brahmins is the most important one. At the same time, the Dalits' fate can be summarized to "polluting activites".
  5. Meanwhile, widespread corruption is gnawing the country.
  6. These factors can explain a vast gap between rich and poor in India. About 35% of the people live on less than a dollar a day. Poverty is at it worst in rural areas and is often accompanied by high levels of illiteracy and poor health.
  7. The poorest's situation in India is ironically shown by successful Bollywood actors in films such as "Swades". In this movie, child labour is denounced through a young boy carrying a kettle filled up with water. He runs up and down the train in order to sell some to passengers. A high angle shot is used in this still in order to show the inferiority of the young boy in front of Bollywood Star Shurakh Khan.
  8. To put it in a nutshell, even though India is burgeoning rapidly, it has to cope with major problems that make inequalities rise. Meanwhile, women are still considered as a burden because of the dowry. The poorest situation is at it's worst, that's why we must act quickly.
  9. How is development useful when traditions prevent it from improving the neediest's social situation.
