NEW SALEM

Where is it?: The town of New Salem is located within the Piedmont region of North Carolina, roughly within the middle of the state.

What does it look like?: The majority of the town of New Salem is lush country, with wild fruit growing up from ragged briar thickets, ancient trees towering over buildings, and woodland pathways connecting through the city. There is a small shoreline near the river where people go to swim in the hotter months. The town is only a few hours away from the coast of North Carolina.

The buildings are old but modernized, giving the town the appearance of a 'small town' despite its largeness and relative population.

Font of Power: There is a magical font which runs beneath the town of New Salem. It was recently ruptured open by an unknown force. Some officials believe that the font's rupture has something to do with recent hurricanes that have been plaguing the coastline and extending into the Piedmont region. As a result of the font's rupture, magical energy has been seeping into the town. This has been causing unnatural displays of elemental magic, the sudden Awakening of numerous humans, spontaneous contraction of magical abilities, and more. The Font's rupture is continuing to affect civilians, and anyone has a chance to be affected by its power.

The Font is currently threatening the upholding of the Masquerade and is considered a high-priority issue to both the Mage Council and the Veil Guard. As a result, the town of New Salem has increased Council and Guard presence.
