  1. <amiller> do you think strangers in bitcoin-otc are trustworthy? do you think the rating system is effective?
  2. <amiller> i mean you personally if that helps
  3. <rg> erm
  4. <rg> i wouldnt ask random people
  5. <rg> id ask the confirmed legit people
  6. <rg> anyone with over 10 positive ratings
  7. <rg> from 10 different people
  8. <rg> is probably ok
  9. <amiller> it would be really eays for me to fake you out and make 10 people you've never heard of
  10. <amiller> i suppose you'd take into consideration one level further right, like if the people rating me are trustworthy
  11. <rg> lol
  12. <rg> web of trust mate
  13. <rg> if you use ratings+webof trust
  14. <rg> you wont get ripped off
  15. <amiller> do you consult that graph often
  16. <amiller> if you don't you probably have a pretty clear understanding of what it means anyway
  17. <rg> the trust graph is just so you can see:
  18. <rg> if user A has a +1 from user B
  19. <rg> and user B has a +1 from user A
  20. <rg> and then theres a user C
  21. <rg> who also only rated users B+A
  22. <rg> you can sniff out a scam
  23. <rg> if someone created fake acounts
  24. <rg> to rate
  25. <amiller> so you're confident you'd be able to sniff out fake accounts using this graph tool
  26. <amiller> and the rating system + web of trust overall
  27. <rg> also utilizing your best judgement
  28. <rg> if something doesnt smell right
  29. <rg> use your gut
  30. <rg> ask other people
  31. <rg> the last person that got ripped off in -otc was imsaguy
  32. <rg> and it was because he didnt follow protocl
  33. <rg> and before that
  34. <rg> noone has been ripped in months
