  1. Geography
  2.
  3. The country of Vestrya is located in the northwestern hemisphere of the globe and spans approximately 30 million km2 of land. It is bounded by The Fesmeau Wall--the country's largest mountain range—to the west, and the Hasnyea Sea to the east. The north is largely uninhabitable due to a harsh freezing climate compounded by a scarcity of resources. The south of the country is dotted heavily by swamplands, which house 10% of the population and serves as the de facto mecca for medicinal and horticultural advancement. At the center of the continent is a massive steppe that is home to several merchant groups and is crossed by nomadic groups year-round.

  5. Population
  6.
  7. 60% of the inhabitants of Vestrya are tarma(A. Ptarmigus Uncia), a semi-quadruped species with avian characteristics. It is important to note that though they all speak a common language, tarma are not united under one nationwide ruler and instead are under the rule of a lord or chieftan of their homestead. It is a generally understood social rule that warring over land and assets is a primitive act and offending tribes are quickly ostracized.
  8.
  9. Due to geographical hurdles, most tarma do not migrate far from the region in which they are born. Located in the middle of Vestrya, the Trabar Steppe stands as an exception to this rule and tarma often journey here to both peddle and trade for goods.
  10.
  11. A lack of genetic mixing has resulted in a groups of tarma with distinct physical features and customs.
  12.
  13. The Fesmeau Wall and Connecting Northern Forests
  14.
  15. The mountains and forests to the north and west are covered in ice caps almost year-round, and this is reflected in the bulky coats and slow metabolisms of northern tarmas.
  16.
  17. Unable to migrate to warmer climates, these angora tarmas have evolved two to three times the mass of average tarma, and subsist on a mostly carnivorous diet. They tend to live alone, with hunger making them prone to aggression. In the past, settlements have been established but quickly collapse under infighting due to a lack of social skills and poor resource management.
  18.
  19. Areas closer to the steppe do see more activity, with entrepreneurial spirits setting up camps and festivals to showcase the quiet loveliness of the Fesmeau Wall.
  20.
  21.
  22. The Eastern Shore and The Hasnyean Sea
  23.
  24. The east of Vestrya is especially notable due to the tarma that inhabit it—namely, these tarma are able to travel some distance in the ocean, often do so, supposedly causing physical mutations that vary widely from tarma to tarma even within the same ten mile radius.
  25.
  26. Generally, tarma on the eastern shore have sleek, waterproof feathers, long legs, and webbed feet. They have a variety of beak shapes and body sizes, in high contrast with their kind elsewhere on the continent who generally have noticeable feathery plumage and large talons. They are known to attribute their widely varying appearances to ancestors intermingling with tarma in foreign countries on their voyages, but there is no concrete evidence that this is the reason for their baffling anatomical variations other than folktales and word of mouth. Generally, eastern tarma are seen as being particularly prone to boasting and their tales of travel are largely disregarded.
