  11. <@Heiden> If you're not interested in discussing the plot I want to run, then there's nothing for you here.
  12. <@Heiden> If you're interested in going on the run itself, likewise.

  14. <@Heiden> Anyone in here will be barred from joining the run itself.

  23. <Doctopus> GLORY ETERNAL
  24. <@Heiden> Sum it up, if you want to go on the event, you can't be in here
  25. <@Heiden> I think that accounts for everyone, now.
  26. <@Heiden> Okay. Starting now. If you're in here after my first sentence describing it, I won't allow you on the event.
  27. <@Heiden> Burns, amusingly enough, this run will begin with a Muse.
  28. <@Heiden> Who runs into the library, rather distressed.
  29. <@Heiden> Long story short, one of the people she is patron to has been struck with a malady that ONLY TEAM LIBRARY can cure
  30. <@Heiden> the malady is manifesting itself as schizophasia, and as he's a poet, this is /very bad/
  31. <@Heiden> I mean, not earth-shattering or anything, but really bad for him personally.
  32. <@Heiden> TEAM LIBRARY gets there, diagnoses the cause as supernatural in origin (surprise surprise), and determines there's only one way to fix it
  33. <@Heiden> a psychonauts-style adventure through the miiiiind
  34. <Doctor_Light> oooh
  35. <Doctopus> FANCY
  36. <Ori> I like it.
  37. <@Heiden> Yeah. Any ideas for how they actually /swing/ the psychonauts-adventure-through-the-mind?
  38. <@Heiden> Right now all I've got is Midnight.
  39. <Ori> If you want, you could npc dusty/some other guy brewing p some sort of vision quest potion.
  40. <Ori> A magical vision quest potion.
  41. <@Heiden> They aren't going to have enough time to really do that. They walk in on the middle of an attempted suicide.
  42. <Doctopus> She turns into a portal
  43. <Ori> Ah.
  44. <Doctopus> She's a muse right?
  45. <Doctopus> She's connected to the one she's giving inspiration to
  46. <Doctopus> :U
  47. <@Heiden> She's not, not anymore. That's why she's flipping out.
  48. <@Heiden> The schizophasia's only symptomatic.
  49. <Doctor_Light> Uh... librarian is a powerful mage?
  50. <Doctopus> oooh
  51. <Doctopus> she tries to link back up
  52. <Doctopus> and sucks everyone in because of the trauma
  53. <Doctopus> so they're all trapped in his mind unless they feeeeex
  54. <@Heiden> No can do, I'd like this to have multiple completion conditions.
  55. <Doctopus> hmm
  56. <@Heiden> They can fix it, fail to fix it and fail to make it worse, or they can destroy him, basically.
  57. <Doctopus> ooh
  58. <Doctopus> dragon age style
  59. <Doctopus> i'd just say midnight can link them in
  60. <Doctor_Light> Some sort of secretive librarian artifact... Like, I dunno, an actual ship or something
  61. <Doctopus> ...
  62. <Doctopus> a mind zepplin would be awesome
  63. <Doctopus> just sayin'
  64. <Doctor_Light> ... Yes
  65. <@Heiden> An artifact of some kind might be best, yes.
  66. <@Heiden> That way Midnight isn't /mandatory/.
  67. <Doctor_Light> Right
  68. <@Heiden> The tone's intended to be wistful, a bit sad. The poet writes love poetry, the Muse is Erato, and he's betrayed the spirit of his craft by leaving his lover to focus on his poetry.
  69. <@Heiden> A lot of romantic/bleak landscapes. The opening scene in the mind is a picnic set for one in a park.
  70. <Doctopus> oooh what if the lover is there, and SHE'S the mage who links them in
  71. <Doctopus> that way midnight isn't mandatory
  72. <Doctopus> and if they fuck up there's immediate consequences
  73. <Doctopus> in the form of grief and rage from the lover
  74. <@Heiden> I think it'd disrupt the melancholy tone of the run that I'm trying to set.
  75. <@Heiden> I also don't want to have to significantly characterize an NPC for it.
  76. <Doctopus> mmm
  77. <Doctopus> i'd just say a random library artifact
  78. <Doctopus> or something the muse has
  79. <@Heiden> I think you're right. If Midnight isn't around, the Muse will produce an artifact of some kind.
  80. <DrMann> They read the last poem he wrote.
  81. <DrMann> It's not finished yet.
  82. <DrMann> But before it happened, he had enough power in his words to bend the world around him. It draws them in.
  83. <@Heiden> Fantastic.
  84. <Doctopus> I'd actually write up the poem in that case
  85. <Doctopus> and use the imagery as the monster encounters
  86. <@Heiden> There won't be monster encounters.
  87. <Doctopus> :O
  88. <@Heiden> There will be literally /no/ combat in the entire run.
  89. <@Heiden> Unless they are just completely fucking retarded.
  90. <@Heiden> There'll be stat checks, but it'll be mostly puzzle-solving if I can figure out the puzzles.
  91. <@Heiden> They'll need to figure out what happened, and why things went wrong. They'll find him in his mind, of course, and they'll probably be able to cure the schizophasia before they're done with the whole affair.
  92. * Doctor_Light likes this plot
  93. <@Heiden> Actually, I think that'll be the central bit of it. If they can piece together what happened and what went wrong, that'll be 99% of fixing it.
  94. <@Heiden> Success will net them an Aspect dealing with the Muse in some way. Her blessing.
  95. <Doctopus> :O
  96. <@Heiden> Any suggestions for cleverer players? I want to keep this small.
  97. <DrMann> Dex wouldn't be a bad choice.
  98. <DrMann> Nor Crackles.
  99. * Ori (Mibbit@synIRC-6116386B.dsl.skt2ca.sbcglobal.net) has left #heidenplot
  100. * Doctopus dunno
  101. <@Heiden> Okay. Any ideas for setpieces?
  102. <@Heiden> I've got the picnic for one in the park, and a hilly landscape with a well in the middle of it, completely dry.
  103. <DrMann> A tunnel of love. The heads of the swanboats have broken off.
  104. <Doctor_Light> Oceans tend to be pretty romantic- either a beach, or a dock, maybe a lighthouse
  105. <Doctor_Light> Where else... Uh... Okay, so Dante's hell for adulterers was a giant windstorm where the lovers couldn't hear each other talk
  106. <Doctor_Light> I think
  107. <Doctor_Light> You could do something with that
  108. <@Heiden> He hasn't betrayed love in quite the same way.
  109. <Doctor_Light> True
  110. <DrMann> A crowd of people with heart-shaped holes in their chests. No blood or guts. Just, you can see through them there.
  111. <@Heiden> Excellent.
  112. <DrMann> Like they're paper dolls and someone has cut out a heart-shaped piece of them.
  113. <Doctor_Light> Ruined... cathedrals, maybe? Greek or maybe Renaissance style
  114. <Doctopus> Half a set of statues
  115. <Doctopus> they can tell it's a matched pair by wall frescoes
  116. <Doctopus> but when they get to the statues themselves, one is missing
  117. <Doctopus> :o
  118. <@Heiden> hmm.
  119. <@Heiden> I'll probably pick and choose out of those and assemble 4-5 sets total.
  120. <@Heiden> Now for the puzzling bit.
  121. <Doctopus> nighht
  122. * Doctopus sleep
  123. <@Heiden> g'night.
