  1. The intent of this research paper is to address the moral and ethical issues that may arise from using population control as a resolution to the looming threat of overpopulation. The human population is growing exponentially at a global rate of approximately 2.0% per year. This rate is slowly increasing however, which means that each time the population doubles; it takes even less time for the population to double again. If this trend continues to go the way it currently is, it is more than likely that people will not only have to compete with each other for resources, but they will also have to have to compete with each other just to occupy surface area on the face of the planet. This research topic will assume that there are no “miraculous” resolutions that will happen any time soon (I.E. space travel / colonization of other planets, etc.), and will also draw on the ideas of eugenics and euthanization as an effective means to keep the population under control. Considering that this research paper will need to address topics at a molecular level, this is why the discussion of eugenics would fit perfectly into the discussion of this paper. Developing embryos can be screened beforehand for genetic disease or mental handicaps, and can be dealt with accordingly. Also, there will be a strict population quota for offspring; families will not be able to have more than 2 offspring in their families, regardless of whether both offspring are male or female. Also, genetically “normal” children are not allowed to be euthanized in any which way unless any of the aforementioned codes were violated. More research needs to be done on these respective topics, but the bulk of the reviewed literature will come from peer-reviewed journal entries.
