Looking Up at the World



You have too look hard being short, and not because there is a wall/grass/kerb blocking your line of sight. It's because there are so many things made impossibly difficult if your short, and worse still for a boy.

That's basketball out the window for a start, and unless you possess the build of a brick outhouse, rugby quickly follows. Abandon all hope of running, as those gifted with length of legs bound past, let alone mention jumping. Sports might not be the be-all and end-all, but it would be nice to have a extra couple of feet when you really need it. It's always been, looking back, the one thing that prevented me from being particulary into sport - people much bigger and taller, rampaging around while I nipped around like a not-so-proverbial terrier at their heels.

Well, at least I dont have to worry about door frames. Or low ceilings. But there is the dread of all those who are unusualy short for their age - the everlasting fear of theme park height restrcitions. Thankfully, it is a fear long since passed,
