guzcanons

- guzma's in his early thirties. (i kind of use my age as a reference, so if you want a specific number, he's currently thirty-one.)

- guzma is something of a cuddle bug, if you will. he can't sleep without holdin' onto a motherf***er.

- guzma knows how to knit. his mother taught him how. it's become something of a primary hobby for him nowadays. he especially likes to knit sweaters for people who hold importance in his life. if you've made a lasting impression on him, it's likely he'll knit you a sweater. (the idea for this headcanon came from the fact that spiders spin webs, caterpillars build cocoons, etc. all created with fibrous materials. i feel like that sort of ability translates into textile arts as far as people are concerned.)

- guzma's predilection for tapu cocoa extends to all things chocolate. he's a choco-holic. as a result of this, he's learned to bake, so he can further integrate chocolate into his diet. (also a result of being a mama's boy...) he's really, really good at baking. especially anything with chocolate in it. he's decent at cooking, but baking is where he excels.

- he used to have a less wholesome addiction: alcohol. especially alolan moonshine, which is cheap and potent. however, very recently, he's kicked the habit. and i mean very recently. he's promised the people in his life who seemingly care about him that he'll "stay out of trouble"; 'trouble' primarily referring to drinking. (i've been playing this character for years, and last year and the year prior to that he would get piss drunk at the drop of a hat. recently, though, he's been a good boy.)

- he still gets high, though. i don't think that'll ever change. however, he isn't into any hard drugs; only marijuana. he's not perpetually stoned, but close to it... now, mina, on the other hand...

- he's obsessed with this show called "volcations" (volcanic locations), an educational program hosted by blaine, the gym leader from kanto. the premise of the show is that blaine travels to different volcanoes and spouts riddles and facts about them. he's accompanied by his magmar, who guzma insists is absolutely hilarious. guzma's really only watched the show when he's stoned out of his mind, though, so i question the veracity of this. while he does almost exclusively view it in an altered state of mind, he has learned a lot about volcanoes from it. so much so that he's even impressed maxie with his knowledge.

- guzma has a charjabug (she only just recently evolved) named gabby who can usually be found tucked away in the hood of his sweatshirt. he's never put her in a pokeball, and it's likely he never will. and she's the only one of his pokemon who is named. gabby originates from the aether foundation. then a grubbin, guzma found her on the conservation platform and decided to smuggle her out in his sweatpants. he just can't resist those cute bugaboos. gabby subconsciously plays a role as a surrogate daughter for guzma.

- if you've read my drabble breathing in your ghost, choking on your memory, then you know that guzma had a daughter named luana. after failing to become a trial captain his life stagnated, and sometime during his early twenties he married and moved to ulaula (into what would become the notorious shady house). it was not a particularly easy thing for the very homosexual guzma to be married to a woman, but he made it work. (his father was pretty much convinced he had successfully [and very literally] beaten the gay out of him.) his relationship with his wife was rather strained from the beginning, but the introduction of a daughter into their dynamic changed everything. guzma loved luana with everything that he was (and naturally his parents were very, very thrilled to have a granddaughter and felt that guzma had finally made something of himself) and her mere existence motivated him to be a better person. luana was however unfortunately born with a heart condition that would see to it she did not live past the age of five.

- after luana's death, guzma's marriage unsurprisingly crumbled. he ended up with shady house in the divorce, promptly trashed it, and began his takeover of po town. it's rumored that luana's death is what brought the unrelenting rain to po town.

- guzma ran in the same circle as kukui and molayne when he was younger, but ultimately the friendships they shared dissolved as their lives pulled them all in differing directions. guzma always held resentment towards molayne for becoming a trial captain when he could not and ultimately severed ties with him because his jealousy was too overwhelming.

- today, however, guzma and molayne are friends again, and they get along as though nothing happened. in fact, they get along better than they did when they were kids. guzma affectionately refers to molayne as "molame" and in return molayne calls him "gizmo", a nickname he's had for him since childhood.

- molayne does a fair bit of traveling for both of his jobs, and he oftentimes sends guzma photographs of where he is to encourage him to get out and travel, too. molayne is the one who sent guzma a photograph of snom, which prompted guzma to visit galar. (he's still trying to find a snom, someone help him!)
