- Why is there such a large attitude here of rampant, enthusiastic hatred of games you don't like/play when normal people can say "i didn't like it, but
- that's ok, others might"?
- Is this place some kind of aggressive autistic training area?

- Think of it another way.
- Perhaps the problem is that we have so much faith in the video game genre and developers are so often letting us down. It's like the potential is
- there but the old "they're video games, they don't have to be held to the same standards as other types of media" way of thinking prevents that
- potential from being fully realized.
- What's even more disappointing is when people enable to industry to get away with it by eating their shit and calling it "fun" or "well crafted.".
- It's either that or we're bitter and can't handle people enjoying what we hate.
- It's probably something in between those two.

- It be nice if we could do something about this.

- /v/ is refreshing to me because it has a lot of people who are hypersensitive to industry bullshit. That's a refreshing change of pace from the other
- 99.9999999% of media consumers, who gobble up whatever is shat on their plate and ask for seconds. If I had to pick between cynics and happy-go-lucky
- dilettantes, I'd take the former, if only because the cynics are usually right, and more criticism is better than more praise when it comes to
- improving an artistic medium.
- The vast majority of the bitching and "hating" I see on /v/ is directed at completely valid targets, anyway. DLC, greedy corporate fucks, short cash-
- in games, lazy developers, etc.

- it's because the misconception of what a game ought to be has been warped by both stupid moneyhungry publishers and developers
- the industry is now mainly targeted at stupid casual game players who don't want the same things that classical gamers (true gamers) want out of a
- game experience
- games have become more about providing the player with an enjoyable experience rather than challenging the limits of the player's ability to learn and
- adapt new strategies to meet goals or overcome obstacles
- in modern game philosophy, we have shit that intentionally makes the game easy and/or accessible, and forgoes any notion of challenge, because "game
- over" screens don't give you the same feeling that the credits roll does

- So it's wrong to want to have an enjoyable experience and/or a challenge?

- it's not "wrong" but it has had serious implications for more classical gamers
- there are hardly ANY modern games that i enjoy playing simply because they are basically interactive movies
- and the ones that don't try to be interactive movies and actually try to be games usually end up being so fucking piss-poor in difficulty that they
- require virtually no time at all to master, because they're easy as fuck mechanics that have been done hundreds of times and are just being remade
- with a new graphics/context wrapper
- there's no real arguing with it though, because i understand that games are a business, and people don't want to be challenged, they want to have fun.
- fun sells, challenge doesn't
- and these types of people have flooded this form of human expression to the point that it could never possibly be fixed
- it's not really an issue to me, i don't get bored very quickly, and i would much rather play a game for years and develop a skill in it than finish an
- installment of Movie Game 3 and anxiously wait like a cow at a slaughterhouse for the proverbial axe (the stupid amounts of money they charge per game
- nowadays) to come down on my head for the next entry to whatever terrible game franchise i might have played
- you can make some argument about pirating, and yeah, that's true, i don't buy a lot of games, but a lot of people do... and that is what continues to
- fuel this horrible cycle
- completely unaware and uninformed people who technically aren't doing anything wrong but fueling something that has destroyed the game industry at its
- very core
- is it a reason to be mad or contempt-filled? that's up to you

- The way you speak it's as if you believe that 'fun' and 'challenge' are separate. 'Fun' is incredibly subjective to begin with, but the two aren't
- mutually exclusive.

- challenge to me is something that is testing my ability.
- usually this ends up in losing, but the difference between me and most people is, i will sit and lose for fucking hours (learning from my mistakes and
- growing a skillset to overcome this challenge) until i get that one time where i actually do overcome the challenge
- that is 'fun' to me. but for most people they just don't have that attention span or drive to sit and lose for hours. they view it as a failure and
- give up.

- >You speak of yourself as the superior gamer, strongly suggesting that your line of thought or preferences are the only right choice.
- you obviously haven't been reading what i've been saying then
- i never said these people were wrong for doing this, they don't know any better
- but if something existed, and the very values that held its core together for so long just all of a sudden evaporated in just over 10 years, would that not be a cause for concern for any fan of the way it "used to be" ?
- how can you blame me for looking at these casual idiots who play shit like minecraft religiously and thinking they are anything but inferior weak-minded morons?
- i mean, really, come on now

- >i never said these people were wrong for doing this, they don't know any better
- let me rephrase this
- they technically aren't doing anything wrong by TODAY'S standards
- but if you were to take these people back 15 years and show them the same industry that they have destroyed in modern times, they would have absolutely nothing to do with it
- i don't think you would be able to make a point against this
