  15. Introduction
  16.
  17. Do you like RBY Eggs? is a successful freeze-focused RBY OU Team I finalised at the end of 2013. Of interesting note is the absence of Snorlax and the presence of two Water-types: Starmie and Lapras. As with all the teams I finalise, the nicknames of each Pokémon in the team are based around a theme. The particular theme of this team is taken from within one of my favourite anime: Dragon Ball Z.
  18.
  19. History
  20.
  21. Netbattle Supremacy Era
  22. Back in 2009, when I first got into RBY properly, I was having lots of RBY OU battles with WaterWizard. I made a few teams but none of them seemed to be too successful. One day (maybe in 2010) I thought of the idea of making one that included Persian. Because I believed Tauros to be superior, I thought Tauros and Persian both had to be in the team. The rest of the team consisted of pretty popular sets back then: Gengar lead, Reflect Chansey, Sub Rock Slide Golem and Mega Drain Exeggutor. I called this team Spirit of RBY and the Pokemon had the following nicknames: GGFan (Gengar), Redst0rm (Chansey), T3h Icy (Golem), Water_Wizard (Tauros) , Pocket (Exeggutor) and Evolutia (Persian) - all RBY players of the time. The point is, after defeating WaterWizard with my newly made team (partly with luck) 7 times consecutively, this soon became my main team.
  23.
  24.
  25. PO Stadium Era
  26. As I got more involved with PO, which debuted in 2010, I soon played RBY very rarely. Unlike Netbattle Supremacy, PO started off with 4th gen, then added 5th, 3rd, 2nd and finally 1st gen in 2012. 2012 was when I got back into 1st gen, though 1st gen in a different form. PO had added Stadium mechanics, so battling worked the same way it did in Pokemon Stadium instead of link cable with Red, Blue and Yellow. So when Stadium mechanics were finally working well, I decided to try my Spirit of RBY team in Stadium. Gradually, Gengar changed to Starmie and a few move changes took place, such as the innovation of using Substitute on most things. I had a really fun time in Stadium, and to this date, Stadium OU is the only ladder I achieved over 1500 in. Like all good things, it came to and end. It came to and end... when the PO developers replaced Stadium with RBY, supported by PO celebrities M Dragon and Tiba who were jealous due to their inability to learn quickly an easy, fun and beautiful subgen like Stadium.
  27.
  28. PO RBY Era - Annus Mirabilis
  29. The months that followed were painful for myself, my stadium dream was crushed and RBY was buggy to start off with. But... I didn't give up, just like GGFan wouldn't. I returned to the 1st gen ladder (now RBY OU) in 2013, to do battle with GGFan, M Dragon and I_Gen_OU on the ladder. Of course, it was mainly about not losing to the rest, more than about battling them, but they were the guys hogging the top. So using my RBY adaptation of Do you like Eggs? Stadium team that was itself an adaptation of Spirit of RBY (one that I used in 2nd Anniversary RBY2K10 tournament), I climbed the ladder, struggling against Gengar all the way. However, I managed to top the RBY OU Ladder when GGFan had finally decayed. As I battled in the RBY OU Master tournaments on Pokémon Perfect and later POCL, I finally addressed the Persian issue. The solution was to replace Persian with Lapras. Following several important battles where I demolished the opposition and would eventually win a 64 man best of 3 tournament on Smogon using this team exclusively, I knew this was the first top team I had made in RBY OU.

  31. Achievements
  32. Won Good Old Days Tournament (Smogon 64 man best of 3)
  33. Won in POCL3 Finals Match
  34. Used in most Pokémon Perfect Master Tournament matches from May 2013-April 2014 (Elite Grand Master title earned)
  35. Early team with Persian instead of Lapras topped the RBY OU ladder on PO with 1357.
  36.
  37. Theme
  38.
  39. The team name is based upon the scene in DBZ where Super Buu replies with the question "Do you like eggs?" to Chi Chi confronting him, before turning her into an egg and crushing her under his foot. The team itself contains 2 egg pokemon, Chansey and Exeggutor, each having an egg move in Softboiled and Egg Bomb respectively. Nickname-wise, Chansey itself is actually called Eggs, while the rest of the nicknames are some of Super Buu's favourite food: Candy, Cookie, Ice Cream, Chocolate and Cake. Chansey is called Eggs because it not only is shaped like an egg, but also holds an egg in her pouch. Golem, being a Rock-type Pokémon, had to be named after something that can potentially be hard, therefore Cookie was chosen. Exeggutor looks both pineapple-ish and coconut-ish, so given that these are the two common ice cream flavours that are served in their shells, Ice Cream it was. Tauros was named Chocolate because of its mane's colour. With what was left, Starmie looked like Candy; and although Cake was originally named after Persian's fur looking a cake-ish colour, Lapras's shell can be akin to a top layer on a cake, and so Lapras is also named Cake.

  41. Team Analysis
  42.
  43. Lead Spot: Starmie
  44.
  45. Candy (Starmie)
  46. - Blizzard
  47. - Psychic
  48. - Recover
  49. - Thunderbolt
  50.
  51. Starmie lead can help the rest of team out immensely by giving an immediate advantage against those who unsuccessfully risk Gengar and Exeggutor in the hope to get a quick sleep on it, leading to possible KOes for both with Psychic and Blizzard respectively, or the latter freezing Exeggutor. Blizzard's Freeze also has the chance to catch opposing Alakazam, Chansey and Snorlax, which can otherwise be problematic due to the lack of one's own Snorlax.
  52.
  53. Starmie generally gets slept as it is the primary sleep absorber, but can be used to take Blizzards (at a risk of freeze) to help out Golem/Exeggutor and counter-threaten the foe if awake. It can also switch-in to Cloyster's Clamp (or even Wrap from Dragonite/Victreebel) to try to wake up and/or force the opponent to make a switch. Move-wise, Recover gives Starmie a chance to survive longer because of sufficient bulk, useful if it ever gets paralyzed, awakens or is not slept for any reason. Thunderbolt is the standard to help out with beating other Water-types (mainly Cloyster, Lapras, Slowbro, Starmie), but I have used Surf to deal damage to Jynx (lead). Surf can also replace Psychic if it is suspected the opponent won't lead with Gengar.
  54.
  55. When not asleep, Starmie is the better choice to beat Slowbro with a Thunderbolt critical hit, hopefully succeeding before succumbing to Thunder Wave plus Amnesia boosted Surfs/Psychics. It's also a good check against Normal-types with Psychic (with potential to get special downs), though only against Chansey if they lack Thunderbolt, and can additionally threaten Normal-types with freeze from Blizzard.
  56.
  57. /
  58.
  59. Alternative leads that fit well in place of Starmie, are Jynx and Gengar. Jynx provides that immediate sleep threat and also a Blizzard/Freeze threat, as well as decent damage with Seismic Toss/Psychic on various Pokémon. Defensively, it can come on Blizzard, Ice Beam (switches from Exeggutor and Golem) and Thunderbolt (switch from Lapras). Gengar, usually a greater risk, can do well against Jynx leads if sleep hits and then threaten with Night Shade, Explosion on Exeggutor. It can also scare Chansey with Explosion, hurt Water and Flying-types with Thunderbolt, and even Mega Drain grounds if you opt for that instead. On defensive synergy, it can lead to Earthquake uses which may help Lapras and Exeggutor to come in easier. It's also the best at walling Persian, and can switch into any of its attacks at decent health. To summarise, both are good, like Starmie, depending on the match-up and initial RNG rolls, with creating a strong opening advantage and having minor defensive benefits.
  60.
  61. Chansey
  62.
  63.
  64. Eggs (Chansey)
  65. - Counter
  66. - Ice Beam
  67. - Soft-Boiled
  68. - Thunder Wave
  69.
  70. Chansey's role is the same as it would be in any team, to wall special attacks (notably from Alakazam, Jynx, Starmie) targeted at pretty much any teammate. It must be careful of Explosion coming from opposing special attackers Exeggutor and Gengar though. Counter is to mainly take Snorlax's and Tauros's Body Slam and OHKO them back (really beneficial to the team if one of them is gone), though it's also good against Lapras, Jolteon and Raichu's Normal and Fighting attacks, as well as taking Golem/Rhydon's Body Slams at some risk and hurting the next switch-in. Ice Beam is a good special attack to threaten anything like Golem/Rhydon and Exeggutor, all of which you don't want to come in any easier. It also aligns with the team's theme of initially freezing. In Endgame situations, it might even come in handy to give a chance at freezing versus Tauros if you suspect they'll try to avoid Counter with Earthquake.
  71.
  72. Softboiled, Chansey's form of recovery, is always featured on Chansey and allows it to stay unKOed against special attackers almost always provided it doesn't switch-in on low health or its special falls. Thunder Wave helps at the point that it's best to spread paralysis than to risk the failure of freezing, hopefully giving the foe an FP (Full Paralysis) or two, supporting any teammate by at least making the foe slower.
  73.
  74. Thunderbolt (in place of Counter or Thunder Wave) is an alternative move choice to help against Water-types, such as Slowbro or Lapras. Reflect can also be used instead of Counter to hopefully apply some pressure to the opponent if Eggs (Chansey) isn't on the end of Critical Hits.
  75.
  76. Rock Spot: Golem
  77.
  78.
  79. Cookie (Golem)
  80. - Body Slam
  81. - Earthquake
  82. - Explosion
  83. - Substitute
  84.
  85. Golem, the electric absorber and normal-resist of the team i.e. the rock of the team. Any potential electric attacks targeted at Starmie or Lapras, from the likes of Jolteon and Zapdos can be redirected to Cookie (Golem). It can also catch Hyper Beams and either Earthquake or Explode more than likely. At a risk of paralysis, it can also take a Body Slam hit, which can then allow you to switch to Exeggutor/Lapras if against Snorlax or probably just Lapras if against Tauros.
  86.
  87. Body Slam is on its set to mainly paralyse, but is also the only for Golem to damage Flying-types and hurt Exeggutor a little more. STAB Earthquake is generally how it deals the greatest damage to most foes, while Substitute helps it not only scout Snorlax's moves but also as a tool to hope for an FP while only losing 25% HP each time. Explosion is for when you think booming will give you the greatest advantage in the game out of the possible options, and can be used to take down Slowbro. Rock Slide is an alternative move, probably in place of Substitute, which will allow you to hit Exeggutor harder and actually threaten Articuno, Lapras and Zapdos. But the team (with Starmie, Lapras, Chansey, Golem) generally has enough for the latter 3 without resorting to that choice.
  88.
  89.
  90.
  91. Rhydon functions very similar to Golem (electric absorber and normal-resist) and allows you Substitute, Body Slam and Rock Slide on the same set, with higher attack and more bulk but takes away the Explosion possibility and is slower. Its higher attack is particularly beneficial versus Snorlax (almost certain 3HKO compared to almost no 3HKO with Golem).
  92.
  93. Exeggutor
  94.
  95.
  96. Ice Cream (Exeggutor)
  97. - Egg Bomb
  98. - Explosion
  99. - Psychic
  100. - Sleep Powder
  101.
  102. Ice Cream (Exeggutor) is the sleeper of the team, main Earthquake switch-in (think Snorlax earthquaking Chansey and Golem) and secondary sleep absorber, especially the latter if it's already slept a foe. To fulfill the first role, it carries Sleep Powder. It's probably worth getting in Exeggutor on a lead Alakazam or even a Chansey so you can get the sleep down before you start spreading paralysis. Egg Bomb, the signature move of the team is essentially a Double-Edge that doesn't have recoil, with 75% accuracy. This can be a valuable move against things like Exeggutor, Jynx, Alakazam and Chansey at low health, when it hits. Even if doesn't hit, the fact it can hit 3/4 of the time puts pressure on the opponent. If you want Exeggutor to stay in, it can even use Egg Bomb against Sleeping Jynx, Alakazam if they choose to stay in.
  103.
  104. Psychic is the STAB move to use most of the other time, particularly on Golem, Rhydon, Lapras, Persian, Snorlax, Tauros and Zapdos, and is usually the better choice against other Exeggutor and sleeping (or high health) Chansey. Explosion should be used when necessary, usually when Exeggutor is no longer needed, but be careful to not be too predictable. Other options in place of Egg Bomb are Stun Spore if you want to focus more on paralysis (could be combined with Rhydon), Double-Edge for more reliable accuracy (but recoil) and Mega Drain to get some health back and take out the Rocks in one shot.
  105.
  106. Tauros
  107.
  108.
  109. Chocolate (Tauros)
  110. - Blizzard
  111. - Body Slam
  112. - Earthquake
  113. - Hyper Beam
  114.
  115. Tauros is the best Pokémon in this team and in RBY OU full stop / period in turning a losing game around. It shouldn't risk switching in on moves, exceptions including sometimes versus Chansey or taking a physical attack such as Hyper Beam or Earthquake in an endgame situation with little other choice. Some Snorlax switch into Tauros's Body Slam and Counter as you switch-out, so Earthquake after if you suspect that will happen in order to prevent the Counter damage being received from Golem or whoever you happen to switch-out to.
  116.
  117. Onto the moves, I wouldn't recommend a change in any of them. Blizzard is highly useful against Exeggutor in KO range and the rocks (Golem/Rhydon) generally. Plus, it has Freeze potential. Body Slam is its main damaging move with paralysis chance, Earthquake is usually against Gengar or a 31% Rhydon / 33% Golem and Hyper Beam is to finish foes off at the right range.
  118.
  119. Lapras
  120.
  121.
  122. Cake (Lapras)
  123. - Blizzard
  124. - Body Slam
  125. - Confuse Ray
  126. - Thunderbolt
  127.
  128. Cake (Lapras) is a top RBY OU Pokémon that fits so well into this team. Blizzard is the beastly normal-checking (Snorlax, Tauros) and Exeggutor, Golem/Rhydon owning move with Freeze chance. Body Slam is for when paralysis is the right thing to go for. Confuse Ray creates the parafusion combination when the opponent is paralyzed, giving them only a 37.5% chance to move. It can also be used on Slowbro to help beat it in combination with Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is good for checking other Water-types like Starmie and Lapras, especially if they are paralyzed, also.
  129.
  130. Lapras can switch into any Blizzard with ease (which Golem and to a lesser extent Exeggutor will be targets of), and thus deals with Articuno extremely well. It can also switch into Water attacks like Clamp from Cloyster or Surf from Slowbro targeting Golem or whoever. Although, despite Lapras resisting Clamp well, Cloyster does outspeed Lapras, so Clamp can do significant damage to Lapras, depending on its accuracy luck with successive uses. Similarly, Lapras threatens Dragonite with Blizzard (OHKO) instead of Thunderbolt on Cloyster (very likely 2HKO), and has to wait for Wrap to miss.
  131.
  132. Strengths & Weaknesses
  133.
  134. The team has a strong defensive core: Exeggutor, Golem and Lapras are great tanks (taking hits and striking back); Chansey adds more support for paralysing and can surprise with Counter. Starmie + Exeggutor in the opening can be very good if you know they'll leave Gengar in (in which case you attack with Starmie) or you think they'll switch out to Starmie (switch in Exeggutor). If you can deal with the opponent's Normal-types with Golem and Lapras, you have a great opportunity to clean up with Tauros. With two boomers, three potential freezers, five potential paralysers (if you count Starmie's Thunderbolt), one sleeper, one confuser, there's a variety of ways escaping threatening situations.
  135.
  136. Victreebel is a significant weakness, as only Starmie and Tauros outspeed Victreebel, and 2/3 of the team takes a high level of damage from its attacks. Snorlax, especially Amnesia sets, can also cause difficulty. Although Starmie has an advantage 1-on-1 with Gengar, it doesn't want to be paralyzed against it, because it would likely force another Pokémon on the team to take sleep, and if Gengar does manage to sleep Starmie, it can threaten the rest of the team with Explosion still. Alakazam cannot be beaten very easily without risk, so usually has to be stalled against a bit. In similar fashion, Chansey is a bit harder to take out without Snorlax on the team. Due to Chansey lacking Thunderbolt and Exeggutor lacking Mega Drain, Water-types can also be more problematic than they otherwise would. Lack of Rock Slide on the team also makes it easier for Ice and Flying-types.
  137.
  138. Conclusion
  139.
  140. I've been using this as my main team for lots of matches, and I haven't felt the need to change anything... which is why this RMT is very overdue. I hope my quick analysis of the team has successfully communicated some of my thoughts and passion I've had when using it.
  141.
  142. That's all for now, so hope you've enjoyed reading this RMT and have fun trying out the team! :p
