- I found your article on the __ of the monarchy in yesterday’s paper most alarming.
- I do not at all agree that the Queen and her family are an __, expensive and pompous lot, and that the monarchy itself is an old-fashioned institution. On the __, I believe that the Windsors carry out their official __ with respect and dignity, and that the monarchy is a more useful institution than ever as we are moving into the 21st century.
- Why, then, do we need the Queen today? First of all, she represents __ and continuity in a changing society. Politicians come and go; the Queen __ for life. She is above party politics and therefore a __ figure for all Britons, no matter what political party we may belong to. As a non-political leader she is our most important ambassador abroad, __ peaceful relations between peoples and countries. On the home front, she is there for all of us; offering words of __ and support in times of __, and adding festivity to occasions calling for celebrations.
- The monarchy means traditions and __ that are part of our national identity. Where would we be without the Changing of the Guard, the Trooping of the Colour and the Queen’s Christmas Speech? Not to mention – where would the tourists be? What __president could possibly replace a monarch like ours?
