  1.
  2. Dear David,
  3.
  4. I hope you guys are all very well and enjoying your well-earned break.
  5. I am sorry to ask you for business/help while you are on your break
  6. but, I wonder if you’d be kind enough to write me a letter of support.
  7.
  8. The most recent banking crisis in Denmark and my current employment
  9. status, means my bank are being quite un-supportive at the moment.
  10. This is despite my regular income, assets and impending insurance
  11. settlement.
  12. I had previously budgeted to complete my project using my overdraft but
  13. my bank are now saying this is not possible.
  14. This means I can not finish my IT project, which is ~80% complete.
  15.
  16. I have been developing a “proof of concept” system which I am hoping to
  17. implement in Guyana to complement a “One Laptop Per Child” type scheme.
  18. My plan is to run a pilot-project in a few schools in Guyana.
  19. With the proof of the pudding on the table, and with your blessing I
  20. will approach larger developers, and suppliers.
  21. I anticipate I can generate significant long-term interest from:
  22. Lenovo(laptop), Huawei(infrastructure), Negroponte(OLPC), IBM(Iron),
  23. Fed-Ex(logistics), Google(Chrome OS Laptops), Microsoft(OLPC),
  24. Canonical(ubuntu), Opera(OSS), Mozilla(OSS), Zynga(Software),
  25. Facebook(Presence). There is a unique aspect to this project in that,
  26. after the intial period, it will be self sustaining.
  27.
  28. My unique input into this project will be that I will be donating my
  29. insurance settlement to the cause to get the ball rolling.
  30. I am hoping this level of commitment will have 2 effects:
  31. 1) it guarantees our independence from those that would seek to exploit
  32. both your government and the children
  33. 2) it will establish enough of a platform that the serious players will
  34. have something to build on.
  35.
  36. I am still researching the some of finer details of larger business
  37. plan (logistics, cost reductions, likely interested parties) but, I
  38. 'really' need to get this pilot-project off the ground before being able
  39. to do anything else.
  40. I wonder if it’s possible for you to endorse the project, perhaps
  41. making it appear more favourable to my bank.
  42.
  43. Hoping to hear from you soon,
  44.
  45. Paul
  46.
  47. p.s.
  48. I haven't discussed this with Mum, yet.
  49. While I don't keep secrets from her, I fear she won't respond well to
  50. my level of commitment to this project.
  51. I think she would rather see grandchildren at this point.
  52. However, once it is up and running, I am quite sure she will be as
  53. excited to see it in action as I am.
