- Dear David,
- I hope you guys are all very well and enjoying your well-earned break.
- I am sorry to ask you for business/help while you are on your break
- but, I wonder if you’d be kind enough to write me a letter of support.
- The most recent banking crisis in Denmark and my current employment
- status, means my bank are being quite un-supportive at the moment.
- This is despite my regular income, assets and impending insurance
- settlement.
- I had previously budgeted to complete my project using my overdraft but
- my bank are now saying this is not possible.
- This means I can not finish my IT project, which is ~80% complete.
- I have been developing a “proof of concept” system which I am hoping to
- implement in Guyana to complement a “One Laptop Per Child” type scheme.
- My plan is to run a pilot-project in a few schools in Guyana.
- With the proof of the pudding on the table, and with your blessing I
- will approach larger developers, and suppliers.
- I anticipate I can generate significant long-term interest from:
- Lenovo(laptop), Huawei(infrastructure), Negroponte(OLPC), IBM(Iron),
- Fed-Ex(logistics), Google(Chrome OS Laptops), Microsoft(OLPC),
- Canonical(ubuntu), Opera(OSS), Mozilla(OSS), Zynga(Software),
- Facebook(Presence). There is a unique aspect to this project in that,
- after the intial period, it will be self sustaining.
- My unique input into this project will be that I will be donating my
- insurance settlement to the cause to get the ball rolling.
- I am hoping this level of commitment will have 2 effects:
- 1) it guarantees our independence from those that would seek to exploit
- both your government and the children
- 2) it will establish enough of a platform that the serious players will
- have something to build on.
- I am still researching the some of finer details of larger business
- plan (logistics, cost reductions, likely interested parties) but, I
- 'really' need to get this pilot-project off the ground before being able
- to do anything else.
- I wonder if it’s possible for you to endorse the project, perhaps
- making it appear more favourable to my bank.
- Hoping to hear from you soon,
- Paul
- p.s.
- I haven't discussed this with Mum, yet.
- While I don't keep secrets from her, I fear she won't respond well to
- my level of commitment to this project.
- I think she would rather see grandchildren at this point.
- However, once it is up and running, I am quite sure she will be as
- excited to see it in action as I am.
