MORAL STANDPOINT:
you can't say arrien has black and white moral values. a bit of a criminal, often life as a student doesn't leave her with much money, what with rent, textbooks, and endless instant ramen (only the cheapest), so she's adjusted by stealing items out of shops whenever she needs to, and sometimes even when she doesn't, mostly just for the thrill. other than that, she's got an ironically strong sense of justice, and the greater cause is always at the forefront of her mind. to get where she needs to be, or to aide others, she will do lots of things, especially if they're considered to be less than lawful.
MOTIVATION: hobi has been her shining light through thick and thin, and is currently the only person who knows about her family history on account of knowing him since childhood. he, combined with her inspiration and love for arts such as photography and DJing, is what keeps her going.
BREAKING POINT: the guilt she has about the way her brother was treated compared to how she was treated. she's always felt an element of survivor's guilt about it, and even if she is aware that it wasn't her fault, she still holds herself responsible regardless. what she needs is for someone to tell her straight up that she's being stupid and that it was in no way her doing. at that point she would just break with relief because she desperately doesn't trust herself and needs a second opinion to confirm it.

arrien has a lot more depth to her than what meets the eye; a lot of people would simply write her off as a unintelligent popular girl obsessed with shots and being obnoxiously loud, and it truly will take a while to peel back the thick skin she's had to grow as a result of her abusive childhood. on one level she simply loves to have fun and enjoy life like everyday's her last - living as she did for years taught her to cherish every moment - but sometimes she falls victim to turning to partying, alcohol and sex as a way of losing herself and her memories, and then this simple enjoyment can take a darker turn. despite her fear of emotional intimacy and attachments ever since seeing her mother turn her back on them, arrien is no stranger to finding herself in a stranger's bed, and tangled locks and lustful sighs and the pressure of someone's hand in your own. still, she always leaves the following day, leaving a trail of broken hearts in her wake; it gives her a sense of authority and control over her life, which had previously been spinning out of control, which is why she secretly loves the relationship she hates with namjoon. even arrien herself has not quite found out who she is yet, and often the incessant partying can be her just trying to see where she fits in in the grand scheme!e of things. as in control as she pretends to be, arrien doesn't know much about the world and the people in it, and often completely overlooks the feelings of others.

° meaningful conversations: being popular can often be a form of self-isolation, and much of the time you're only friends with shallow people because they're popular too - for appearances sake. arrien is lucky she found hoseok to begin with, but oftentimes she doesn't want to ruin their relationship by burdening him with her thoughts and feelings. their meaningful conversations are far and few in between because of this, but when they do happen they're needed, sincere, and can last for hours, talking about feelings or thoughts, or just general questions about life and what that word entails. hoseok is like her lighthouse, he's always there to pick up her pieces, even if she's uncomfortable with sharing her burden, she's grateful for his help.
° dancing: she's possibly hoseok’s biggest hype-woman when it comes to him dancing, mainly because it impresses her so goddamn much. she's literally got around 100 videos of the guy performing various moves on her phone and she refuses to delete any of them. she often begs him to teach her moves.

° relationships: arrien has trouble with committing to things, and often is indecisive and picky. because of her difficult childhood, she struggles with being tied down to people and is very emotionally skittish, especially when it comes to romantic relationships, because she's afraid of marrying someone like her father.
° christmas: christmas reminds her of her mother, so she's always in a bad mood at that time of the year.

° nature: nature is just the worst. there’s always a chance some bird is going to scrap onto your head when you least expect it, passing dogs might decide your leg looks like a better place to pee than a tree, squirrels might throw their nuts at you, it might start raining while you don't have a coat or umbrella in sight, and hay fever is always a bitch. whenever arrien steps foot outside it always seems to become a battle with mother nature due to the sheer amount of things that go wrong.
⇢HOBBIES:
° partying; she can't help it, it's like her and out-of-control parties are magnetised. being a popular girl meant getting the first gossip about any sesh within a thirty miles radius, and if she's not invited, she'll just crash it anyway. she's no stranger to alcohol, and often has the incredible party trick of being able to down straight vodka (it should also be said that she's ended up with alcohol poisoning more than once. oops.)
° photography; although now she's a DJ at the magic shop (see below), she first enrolled as a photographer to take pictures for the nightclub's website. she's had an interest ever since she was young, even if, bless her soul, she's not very good at it.
° yoga; although it began as a joke between her and a friend to gain her ‘flexibility for the bedroom’, arrien quickly found it was actually kinda therapeutic and helped her alleviate her stress and anger. she's been doing it for five years now, and often when in a bad mood she'll randomly leave for a quiet room for yoga to calm herself down. it helps to manage her fury.
° casual boxing; arrien picked up boxing during her mid teens after her brother expressed his need for a sparring partner, as he himself had also picked up the sport. she quickly grew find of it, and although she was always terrible at actually landing punches due to her horrific hand-eye coordination, when she makes contact with your skin it's so painful that it feels like your actual bone has been bruised. it aches for days afterwards - she has very bony knuckles, i guess.

° a lack of the concept of personal space (she used to rough and tumble with her brother a lot, so she's used to acting like everyone is a sibling).

° works as an underpaid extra dj (her name is dj stranger) at the nightclub the magic shop. basically she gets to play in the club anytime the main DJ is bored or wasted, which is a lot.
° her brother is constantly getting her interviews for a “proper” job, which she attends, but only so she can make the worst impression possible. one company actually still offered her a job after she completely trashed the room. she declined.
° as someone who loves yoga and uses it to calm herself from her many, many rampages, arrien has demanded on more than one occasion a small room for herself where she can do her stretches. unfortunately no such room exists, so she has to make do with the store cupboard or just (more often than not) right where she's standing.
° cusses like a sailor but recently is trying to stop.
° has a crescent shaped scar on her left wrist from being bitten by an angry dog when she was fourteen.
° known to do very stupid thing as when drunk, including breaking into other people's dorms or houses and falling asleep on their floor, buying excessive amounts of one product online (e.g. 27 boxes of lucky charms cereal) and realising she doesn't have her purse just after the taxi arrives at her destination, prompting her to sprint out of the car and off into the night. one time she even stole someone's cat and hid it in the drama studio for a couple of hours. another time she tried to leave the room via the cupboard door, and got stuck in the cupboard for a good 3 hours. the last time she woken up on a sunday morning by a member of the local supermarket staff who had turned into the bread aisle and was shocked to find her lying on a pile of 50/50 loaf with no recollection of the night before.

° it took seven attempts for her to pass her driver’s test and because of this the gang will always refuse to ride in her car no matter how desperate they are.
° her and hoseok are often each others valentines considering a lot of the time they're single. they usually spend feb 14th cussing the world and its inhabitants, especially lovesick couples, over a shared tub of ice cream in hobi’s bedroom.

⇢ REQUIREMENT: arrien’s dad was pretty abusive. bitter about his wife leaving him out of nowhere, he would often take out frustrations on his son, who reminded him painfully of his wife. arrien’s brother was blind and often couldn't see him coming, which only made the beatings worse. meanwhile, arrien herself was treated as his princess, which caused her to have survivor's guilt, except her brother is still alive but it's the same concept, okay.
⇢ SPECIAL: arrien absolutely despises her height. she's 5’9, and that only makes it even more difficult for her when she wears heels. because of this, a lot of the guys that she has dated have been smaller than her, which makes her feel embarrassed. this is why she's so attracted to girls or taller guys. another, deeper problem she has with her appearance is the fact that she's painfully aware she resembles her father, and this was the reason she survived his wrath when she was younger. often she will avoid mirrors or wear a lot of makeup to distract herself from her face.

overview: john had been a good father at the beginning, but after his wife left him his depression led to blaming his innocent son, who reminded him so painfully of pam. it was difficult for arrien, as a young child, to decide her feelings for her father, fearing him and loving him all at the same time, especially as she was treated well while her brother was beaten in front of her. still, her distaste grew for him as she got older, and her calling the police was a step of courage in the face of adversary. she finds that her experience has made her into a stronger woman, but nevertheless regrets a lot of her childhood for being to scared to call the police on her father. the experience has led her to have a lot of insecurity about her body, especially her face as she's a spitting image of her father, and whenever john is mentioned she will get defensive and angry. she doesn't even use his name or title at all since the incident, instead referring to john as ‘him’.

overview: arrien holds a plethora of mixed feelings for her brother, most predominantly guilt. the fact that her father targeted specifically him hurts her a lot, especially because the only thing she could do was pick up the pieces afterwards. she hates feeling useless like that, and often thoughts and feelings such as these return every time she sees her brother. she often sees him, considering they live only a few blocks away from each other and nat will often swing by to incessantly worry about his sister. she often distracts him from prying into her life,especially her tendency to mess around with guys and party too hard purely because she understands that it will only worry him, and work is stressful enough. most of the time she does this by mentioning his long-time girlfriend sara, which often converts him into a steamy eyed teenage girl. they have a normal sibling relationship, though there's always the underlying feeling that they've bonded so well as a result of the brokenness they share. she has felt more than a bit protective over her older brother due to their bad blood between their dad and them, and also because his impairment left him vulnerable to such abuse.

⇢ BACKGROUND:
arrien has had a pretty troubling childhood. it started off well enough, with her mother and father getting along and them being a happy family, but when her mother eloped with a colleague she had been seeing for the past two years (when arrien was only five and her brother eight), things took a turn for the worst. her father had always played favourites when they were children; he preferred her brother because he was the spitting image of his wife, but his issue was he loved too quickly and far too hard, so his wife's betrayal changed him. every time he looked at his son it was like a bitter slap in the face, and it only made it more intolerable that nat was blind, and thus completely useless in his father's eyes. the beatings didn't take long to start, and arrien was forced to suffer with her brother in silence out of fear of what her father would do to her. she began losing herself in parties and alcohol because it gave her the freedom to be someone she was not.
she began to loathe days spent at home, and the idea of family and relationships in general, causing her to often lose herself in physical endeavors because of her craving for love, but skirting well away from emotional intimacy because the concept just scared her. and she also began to loathe herself; she would rather be anywhere but here, and anyone other than herself, so she began investing in partying and doing crazy things that probably were more harm to her than good, a testament to her self-destructive nature. still,her brother remained a soft light of her life; since nat was blind, she began acquiring a taste for music and scents rather than things you can physically see to make him more comfortable, because the onslaught of verbal abuse about his impairment was daily, which caused arrien to worry about him a lot. they often listened to songs together, and arrien started to bring home nicely scented stolen objects for him to indulge in.
then the most difficult years of her life began: after one particularly harsh beating led to nat’s arm being broken, arrien,18, finally called the police and her father was arrested. her and nat rented a cramped apartment away from the traumatizing house that it all happened in. soon afterwards arrien left for university, and they still visit each other regularly.

CHARACTER CLOSEST TO:
⇢ OF BANGTAN: hoseok: they've been best friends for years, how could she not be so close to him? they tell each other everything and are often seen hovering around each other to the point that nat (brother) had been wholly convinced they were a couple for years up until last december when he finally asked and arrien laughed straight into his face. they could easily talk for hours about nothing or everything. hoseok is the only person arrien feels she can open up to considering a lot of the people at her school are acquaintances posing as best friends, but arrien feels that what she has with hoseok is genuine. even then though, she struggles with sharing her feelings in case they're a burden on him. they often get into meaningless arguments but can bounce back instantly.
⇢ OF SLOTS: moulin rouge: they find common ground within their more carefree attitude, and will often sneak away from the rest of the group so that they can procrastinate with other things. arrien often invites moulin to her many huge parties but because of her shy nature and constant tiredness, moulin has always avoided them. moulin is usually the person that gets arrien out of trouble, and reigns her in,untrustworthy mean they don't know how to have a good time. arrien will do just about anything people dare her to do, and moulin knows this all too well, often using it against her.
CHARACTER THEY ARE LEAST CLOSE TO:
⇢ OF BANGTAN: jeongguk: the two aren't very close considering the fact that the other person always seems to catch them during their worst and most questionable moments, leading to some awkward silences, avoidance of eye contact, and judging stares. the only exception is their huge competitiveness whenever drunk, usually eliciting a rowdy argument between the two that is forgotten within minutes.
⇢ OF SLOTS: the sound of music: arrien might think that they're wound up too tightly and need to go crazy every once in a while, but that's only because they live so close to each other and see each other all the time, so it's easy to say that they’re sick of each other’s faces. still, they share a love for alcohol and generally getting drunk at 2pm on a wednesday every time they have troubles, and arrien will more often than not choose to share a glass (or shot) with them just to get themselves through the the day. being drunk-frenemies means that they might accidentally slip up and spill a secret to each other, but they probably won't remember it the following morning, so it's all good. they work with each other a lot, and that causes some conflicts, mainly because arrien is such a bad influence on everybody and prefers to party rather than work. you'll often see the two either shouting at each other because arrien has disrupted a run through and  hasn't been practicing her dance moves, or begrudgingly sharing a swig of wine in the corner.

DECRIPTION: arrien and joon have a rocky relationship, for a start. they’re a prime example of opposites attract gone horrifically wrong. they knew of each other in high school, though they never spoke, but, by chance, have gone to the same schools since then. their feud seems to be years old because they go back so far. not only did they get off to a bad start from the very beginning (see their first meeting below) but they also share such different ideals relation to morals, fighting, and pretty much everything in general, so much so that sometimes they play devil's advocate just for the fun of it. still, it seems like hate is an aphrodisiac, i guess, because years of a buildup of sexual tension, especially as they're forced to be around each other a lot more because of the theatre club, eventually gave way for a sex enemies relationship to blossom. they often get into childish arguments and then sneak away from the group for some seksi times in the prop cupboard. essentially, their relationships consist of arrien hating the fact that she has an intelligence and height kink (because she's smaller than a guy for once) and joon hating the fact that he finds someone so aggressive and generally incompetent so hot.
many situations have contributed to their distaste for each other, including the time arrien turned up drunk to a rehearsal and picked a fight with him (they locked her in the prop cupboard to sober up), stowed a stranger's cat away in the club room which then took a dump all over namjoon’s school workbook (prompting him to force her to rewrites notes) and the time arrien literally stole his snowman when they were thirteen. however, possibly the most famous incident was the one that started the feud when they were 12. they went to the same high school school as kids, and at one point namjoon was playing baseball with his friends when he hit the greatest homerun anyone has ever seen. the problem was he put so much power into the swing that he accidentally let go of the bat, which flew through the air and thwacked arrien right in the face, knocking her out and giving her a black eye and busted lip. she still holds a grudge against him.
however, there have also been some quality moments in which namjoon aided arrien in holding back her hair while she threw up into the men's urinals and listened to her drunkenly rant about her newest boyfriend. arrien’s too proud to say thanks to her worst enemy though, so they both pretend it never happened.
