  1. silverwuffamute: Wait what?
  2. silverwuffamute: ..you know that commercial was for the Surface right? The one running Windows 8 RT?
  3. silverwuffamute: It's a tablet.
  4. silverwuffamute: Also, how does the ability to connect things to it make it less mobile?
  5. silverwuffamute: They're not required.
  6. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: i saw a device which clicked and with the purchase of enough of them makes a digital suit
  7. silverwuffamute: Just optional things that SOME people will want to use.
  8. silverwuffamute: Just like some people have bluetooth keyboards for their iPads.
  9. silverwuffamute: Or connect PS3 controllers to their Android tablets.
  10. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: tablets have rather small harddrives, people are mostly going to purchase the smaller variant due to cost. around 8-16GB, enough for one HD game. and thats it, one program to take up the entire internal space. people are going to do it. to do more requires a brick to be attached for more storage
  11. silverwuffamute: That's silly if you think that people are going to abandon their full fledged PCs for Surface.
  12. silverwuffamute: Btw, the Surface has 32 or 64GB plus a micro SD slot.
  13. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: dunno, dont remember the last time i saw people able to dance with a computer that played skyrim anywhere they go. they seemed pretty happy
  14. silverwuffamute: Why are you bringing up this Skyrim thing?
  15. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: because in a computer war like this, people use stuff like that as their ammo
  16. silverwuffamute: Computer war?
  17. silverwuffamute: Pretty sure this is just business and people selling products.
  18. silverwuffamute: And other people buying them.
  19. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: apple haters will want an edge that makes their device look way better. if it plays an overhyped popular game that ipad cant, people will buy it even if it breaks half a dozen times
  20. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: if they advertised the product and not a dance number i wouldnt be so disapointed
  21. silverwuffamute: Would you really?
  22. silverwuffamute: And besides, if I wanted things to like about Surface over the iPad, I have one major one.
  23. silverwuffamute: Better than any game.
  24. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: havent heard of a single edge yet
  25. silverwuffamute: It has a digitizer and pressure sensitive pen input on the Surface Pro.
  26. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: that if you loose costs a bundle to replace and the feature that requires it becomes useless
  27. silverwuffamute: Since when does replacing a stylus cost a bundle?
  28. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: when its got chips and tech and a magnet inside, itll cost more than a dollar
  29. silverwuffamute: Better than a $30 adapter. :P
  30. silverwuffamute: So you're saying the ability to do full fledged art on a tablet isn't a pro?
  31. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: already been done with the ipad, nothing new. plus drawing tablets a decade before that.
  32. silverwuffamute: Um, the iPad doesn't have pressure sensitivity...
  33. silverwuffamute: Which is a huge deal.
  34. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: you shouldnt need to apply any pressure to any tablet. any touch should do the job instead of detect between a light touch and borked beyond repair
  35. silverwuffamute: Pressure is used in drawing to simulate brush strokes..
  36. silverwuffamute: You know, line thickness dependent on pressure.
  37. silverwuffamute: So yes, a touch will make a line, but pressing slightly harder will make a thicker one.
  38. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: which is changed with buttons in the toolbar and also retracing the lines
  39. silverwuffamute: Which is horribly inefficient and slow.
  40. silverwuffamute: There's a reason that drawing tablets have several thousand degrees of pressure sensitivity.
  41. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: ive seen galleries of very impressive art drawn on the iPad, the artists never had any difficulty before
  42. silverwuffamute: No, because they learned to work within the limitations.
  43. silverwuffamute: I can guarantee it would take them half as long and probably look even better if they had full pressure sensitivity.
  44. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: and then press alittle too hard and need a trip back to walmart to get a new one
  45. silverwuffamute: Right, because gorilla glass breaks just like that.
  46. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: ive seen the impossible happen before
  47. silverwuffamute: I can't believe you're arguing that pressure sensitivity is bad thing for artists.
  48. silverwuffamute: With an artist, no less.
  49. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: im not really but dont see it as an edge
  50. silverwuffamute: Well trust me, as an artist, it is.
  51. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: the keyboard, though new and alil impressive. ive had to use things like that before and they were a massive pain
  52. silverwuffamute: One of those wait and see things.
  53. silverwuffamute: I like that you don't have to apply pressure.
  54. silverwuffamute: Just touch.
  55. silverwuffamute: Helps prevent the whole mashing your fingers thing.
  56. silverwuffamute: Here's an edge.
  57. silverwuffamute: The Surface Pro has 64 or 128GB and comes with a high capacity microSD slot.
  58. tokogt@sbcglobal.net: for a much much higher price out of most consumers range
  59. silverwuffamute: Price hasn't been announced yet...
  60. silverwuffamute: And even then, the regular Surface is 32 to 64GB with a standard microSD slot.
