  1. Dear Future and Current Undergraduate Researchers,
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5. Many congratulations on surviving the semester!! Extra congratulations if it was your first at Cal. Now comes a well-earned rest. Except….there are a couple of deadlines *this* week: the Jacobs Institute Innovation Catalysts (12/20), and Linguistics Research Apprenticeship Program (12/22/17). Also, take a look at what’s coming up in January, and mark your calendar for those workshops and info sessions that can help you get ready. December-January is also a great time to study the web site to see which spring opportunities are the best fit for you, and to formulate your plan of action.
  6.
  7.
  8.
  9. There are 53 on-campus research programs in all, but you can use filters to find out which one’s right for you. On the “search databases” page of http://research.berkeley.edu, choose “research programs”, filter by “Programs for Berkeley students at Berkeley”, and then you can filter further by deadline or six other searches (disciplinary division, citizenship status, GPA requirement, etc.). Once you’ve found ones you’re eligible for, read the program web sites carefully, come to info sessions (see below listings for upcoming info sessions and keep an eye on the always-evolving undergraduate research calendar), and, for smaller programs, meet with the program staff to get started!
  10.
  11.
  12.
  13. Don’t forget to check out the off-campus programs, too! Go to the same page, but choose “Programs for Berkeley Students Away from Berkeley”, and many links will come up that are databases. Getting off-campus experience can give you a leg up on graduate admissions at those U’s or can be a pipeline to great on-campus opportunities. Happy rest and exploration to all of you!

  78. UROC (Underrepresented Researchers of Color) supports undergraduate students of color - who are underrepresented at UC Berkeley - in their quest to engage in and excel in the research life of the university. Through workshops and community building, UROC seeks to increase the number of underrepresented students of color in undergraduate research programs and to ensure that these student succeed in these programs. See below calendar of events for some upcoming events they are hosting.
