  1. Silo or long content?
  2. I am building a new website. No IM on it (affiliate, adsense) but it will be an authorative website that I want to rank well for a local business.

  14. I already have a personal website that offers services on that topic (ranks within first 10).
  15. My idea is to have 2 sites in the top 10 pages on google in order to increase my contacts with customers.
  16. Will not connect in any way the two sites. I'm also doing a study on the kw so that the two sites do not fight each other (too much) but rank for quite different kw.
  17. Think that I have content of this type:
  18. topic A (big kw)
  19. - subtopic 1 (medium kw)
  20. - subtopic 2
  21. - subtopic 3
  22. topic B (big kw)
  23. - subtopic 1 (medium kw)
  24. - subtopic 2
  25. - subtopic 3
  26. The question is: better to build this site as SILO (good choice) with subtopic as subpages (but in this case I can not have long contents for each page) OR better to make 2 "SIMPLE" pages with H2 tags for each sub-topic (in this case would be very long content, good choice too).

  28. Do whatever makes your visitors click through and keep browsing your site.
  29. Google is tracking every single person in the planet 24x7 using Chrome, DNS 8.8.8.8 and javascript.
  30. They want low bounce rates, high time spent on site and other signals.
  31. The paradox I was thinking is that for low bounce rates, architecture should not be too much linear.... If contents are messy people will remain more time into website to find what they need :)
  32. However I don't know if it's better to make few very long contents or high number of shorter pages
  33. I think a long content with associating sub-articles in a good silo structure, will give the internal link boost back to your primary article to rank for your target keyword.
  34. Still, you will need external link sources for this to work as well - so not just internal linking, but external linking is very important as well. And if it is a circular silo, that passes the link juice around.

  36. It all depends on how far apart from each other those topics are.
  37. If they are very far, do silo.
  38. If they are close, combine into a single piece. Otherwise you might face cannibalization issues.
