  1. Moderator Introduction
  2. Introduction
  3. Welcome to our backroom. This is our little sanctuary where we discuss things in regards to the ladder and just sit back and relax/vent if need be. This room is private. Any content is to remain in this room and any content reserved for moderators is only to remain among the moderators. This includes Infractions, Match Records/Reports, etc.
  4.
  5. Basic Controls
  6. Clicking on a name here will bring up a new option of showing chat controls. When you click you should have 4 options. Mute, Kick, Ban, Hyperlink Ban. When you go to mute/kick someone, you are given a dialog box to enter how long and the reason. ALWAYS leave a Reason as these will result in an infraction for other mods to see on the user's record, and for the user to know exactly why they were moderated.
  7. You should never use the ban function unless a red mod gives you permission to do so.
  8.
  9. Mutes silence a user in the chat you moderate. Kick Removes them from the chat for a given amount of time. Ban is a permanent kick. Hyperlink ban shadows a message containing a link after the ban (more on this later).
  10.
  11. We have a rule of thumb when it comes to moderation in general.
  12.
  13. [message_deleted] > Warning > Mute > Warning > Kick > Warning > Get a red mod.
  14.
  15. You can delete messages by clicking on the timestamp and clicking Delete. You may undelete messages within 10-15 seconds of deleting them, but you cannot undelete another mods' deletions.
  16. Additionally, you can now hover over a deleted message in chat to show the full message.
  17.
  18. When you click on a message's timestamp, you will see several more options. You can delete a message, mass delete all the messages from that user, remove a message (completely from chat [no message_deleted]), or mass remove. Unless it was major spam, don't rely on remove and just delete/mass delete (mutes mass delete for you).
  19.
  20. Additional Information
  21. As a mod in main chat, you will be getting [reported] notifications for issues that happen in matchmaking for the game you moderate, and main chat reports. If you are taking care of a situation, make sure you close the thread so the other mods do not interfere as it may cause confusion and issues. You will get a notification if they respond to your inquiry.
  22.
  23. You will see new kinds of messages in chat. Sometimes a user's message will randomly come across as shadowed. That means they are shadowbanned or link banned. A link banned user is a user who has posted porn, screamers, or anything else unpleasant in the past and, well, got hyperlink banned. That doesn’t mean they aren't allowed to post or the chat doesn't get to see their content, it just goes through another wall of moderation. The chat cannot see shadowed messages. Only mods can. For the chat to see a shadowed message, click the time stamp and hit undelete. If a shadowed message breaks the rules, delete and privately warn about it (unless it is porn then get a red mod).
  24.
  25. Shadowbanned means 1 of 2 things. 1, they are an alternate account from a restricted computer (i.e. their IP has been marked as malicious/alternate account spree/etc). 2, they are being silently removed from chat by a red mod easing conflict.
  26.
  27. If you were to click on a profile now, you will see one more tab option: Infractions. Infractions act as a history of users' misbehaviour and can serve as warnings. They are notes between mods and the recipient. If you deselect "Player can see note + Get notification", the infraction becomes a Mod Note and is invisible to the recipient. This serves the purpose of keeping track of POTENTIAL misbehaviour or cheating without alerting the user. Infractions are visible to their recipient by default unless you specify otherwise.
  28. Also, "Show Public Infraction" is selected by default for most infraction types. This option means the message in the "Public Message" field will be visible to all users on the recipient's profile card. You may deselect this option if you do not feel this is necessary.
  29.
  30. There are several cases where you will need the assistance of a red mod. If a user has an extensive history of misbehaviour or you suspect they are using an alternate account we will need to take action against their account. You can contact a red mod easily by putting "/mods" at the beginning of your message in the moderator backroom (TheModLivingRoom) or by messaging a red or green mod directly.
  31.
  32. Conclusion
  33. Always feel comfortable asking for help. We would rather you asked us than made a mistake and we do not mind helping.
  34. Moderators with a green or red name are the most experienced, but any moderator will have valuable advice to offer you.
  35.
  36. This position is not a job and we will not make any unreasonable demands of you. Additionally, inactivity will never lead to your position being revoked; it is important not to burn yourself out.
  37.
  38. You are a chat mod. You are a user in charge of the flow of the chat.
  39.
  40. if you mute someone and give a reason they get an infraction, if no reason then no infraction, mute deletes all their messages from before and so does mass delete on selected message
