  6. I would like to see if any of your Windows system files are missing or corrupted. Please follow the steps below:
  7.
  8. 1. Open an elevated Command Prompt (instructions differ depending on your version of Windows).
  9.
  10. Windows Vista or 7:
  11. a. Click Start, and type "Command Prompt" or "cmd" in the Search box
  12. b. Right-click Command Prompt under Programs at the top, and select "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password or click Allow.
  13.
  14. Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10:
  15. a. Use the following keyboard shortcut: Windows Key + X.
  16. b. Select "Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu that appears in the bottom left-hand corner.
  17. c. A prompt may appear asking if you will allow for Windows to open the application, select the "Yes" option.
  18.
  19. 2. Once the Command Prompt appears, type "sfc /scannow" and press Enter.
  20. - The sfc /scannow command will scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy. This may take some time so please be patient.
  21.
  22. Note: Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.
  23.
  24. 3. You will receive one of the following messages:
  25.
  26. [Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.]
  27. This means that you do not have any missing or corrupted system files.
  28.
  29. [Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.]
  30. To resolve this problem, perform the System File Checker scan in Safe Mode, and make sure that the PendingDeletes and PendingRenames folders exist under the following folder location: %WinDir%\WinSxS\Temp
  31.
  32. [Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.]
  33. This means that one or more of your Windows system files was either missing or corrupted and the tool fixed the problem. For your own reference, there is a log of its actions in the file location that it provided.
  34.
  35. If you receive this message, try the game to see if the issue persists.
  36.
  37. [Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.]
  38. This means that the tool found missing or corrupted files but was unable to automatically fix them. You will have to do this manually. We are unable to assist with this, and you will have to contact Microsoft or your PC manufacturer for further information and assistance.
  39.
  40. If the game works after Step 3, excellent! I hope you enjoy it! If not, please follow the steps on the following website to run the Check Disk function to check your hard drive for errors:
  41. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors
  42.
  43. If you then continue to experience issues, please update the ticket with the results of the steps above.
