  1. <clem> arch: because 3.0 isn't compatible with MGSE, we're waiting on 3.2 to hit Debian testing to release the next update pack
  2. <clem> arch: Gnome 3.0 alone isn't considered an improvement over Gnome 2. We'd rather keep LMDE on Gnome 2 until there's at least Gnome 3.2, MGSE and MATE available to them.
  3.
  4. update 13 Jan 2012
  5. <clem_> propman: that might change actually
  6. <clem_> propman: I just managed to run cinnamon on Debian testing today
  7. <clem_> propman: and MATE 1.2.0 isn't too far
  8. <propman> clem_: very cool.....thanks for the update. :)
  9. <clem_> propman: the funny thing is ... that box uses an ATI card which normally needs the catalyst drivers for this kind of things...
  10. <clem_> propman: here it's running both shell and cinnamon without any drivers
  11. <clem_> I'll set up an incoming repository and build cinnamon for lmde in 32-bit as well (I've only done 64-bit so far)
  12. <clem_> but for it to hit latest we'll need to wait for MATE 1.2.0
  13. <clem_> propman: give it a few days/weeks before it's fully ready, upgrading people to gnome 3 is a big thing
  14.
  15. <clem_> Cinnamon is an important alternative to shell, so it needs to work when Gnome 3 hits LMDE
  16. <clem_> cinnamon 1.1.3 uses mutter 3.2.1
  17. <clem_> cinnamon 1.1.4 will use muffin (its own fork of mutter)
  18. * dhbiker has quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
  19. <clem_> so as soon as cinnamon 1.1.4 is out, it will be put in both Mint 12 and LMDE repositories, where it will be compatible with the incoming repos
