  1. Slime people (Homo Limusus) are a newly "discovered" race, created in an accident involving a team of Xenobiologists.
  2.
  3. "Slimes" were first discovered on Epsilon Pavonis III in 2451, where they were and continue to be the dominant lifeform. It was originally assumed that they evolved there, despite a lack of skeletal structures and other fossil evidence, however the presence of similar creatures on other planets and moons has created speculation to the contrary, and has given credence to the theory that the lifeforms were imported for some purpose, possibly domestication or as cattle for some electricity based lifeforms. Originally considered a hazardous, unnoteworthy species they became poplar among exotic pet owners. (Relatively) cool human habitats are ideal for the creatures, as when in livable areas they become complacent, only acting impulsively when in need of sustenance. GAP (Galactic Animal Pets) Ltd, a subsidiary of NanoTrasen is the prime distributor of this alien lifeform.

  5. A slime's whole is a single massive cell, protecting various organelles. The slime's core, or nucleus, is the largest of their organelles. Through dissection, xenobiologists discovered that the slimes use a previously unknown biopolymer for replication, a form of peptide nucleic acid, or PNA. This has made the creatures highly resilient in most circumstance, at the cost of leaving their structure vulnerable to high volumes of water. Their natural habitat has facilitated a tolerance for temperatures far exceeding that of Earth life. Exposure to temperatures approaching freezing, however, cause metabolic rates to stagnate exponentially, and the eventual death of the slime. A slime's primary nourishment comes from nucleic acids and water, a slime hunts using bio-electrical shocks to disable its prey. Slimes then engulf their targets, breaking them down on a genetic level, resulting in malformed limbs and destruction of organs. After accumulating enough sustenance, slimes undergo meiosis, with the nucleus splitting into additional slimes. Chance of mutation for the slime’s PNA was very high, and offspring would often change into various colors.
  6.
  7. It wasn't until 2499 when a xenobiology team studying the creatures on space station Aegis Lab Kilod discovered their true value as scientific subjects. It was found that an injection of plasma into the nucleus could reverse the process of slime DNA digestion, resulting in an ejection of DNA as a dry, brittle cube. By adding water, scientists could reconstitute the cube back into a living creature. Transporting living creatures in inert cube form has proven to be a major boon for NanoTrasen, which often uses living animals in experimentation. This untapped business opportunities has resulted in the slime becoming a mainstay aboard many NanoTrasen plasma research facilitation, where new slime functionality is constantly being discovered,

  9. Green slimes are noteworthy even among slime for their bizarre effect, able to synthesize a chemical that only partially digests DNA, Green lime essence when introduced to a living creature breaks down their genetic and chemical composition, leaving them a translucent, semi-liquid creature that still holds its original form. The subject's original organs and tissues are replaced by slime organelles. The chemical cuts off the circulatory system from some areas, such as the epidermal layer of the skin and the hair, and is unable to fully cross the blood-brain barrier. These tissues are only partially dissolved and become permeable membranes. The result of exposure then, became fully cognizant slime-human hybrids. Even though a slime person has these organelles, because the true nucleus of the humanoid form is the brain, rather than the slime core, slime people cannot reproduce. Other slimes can also produce slime toxin, but at higher levels of concentration. Any person injected with it would find their body losing all cohesion, causing a complete collapse of form.
  10.
  11. "Slime People" were often used as test subjects, volunteers and convicts, in NanoTrasen's completely legal non-human experiments. Xenobiologists noticed that regular slimes cannot discern slime from Homo Limusus, and are thus rarely violent towards affected persons. Some Some pioneering researchers deliberately infected themselves in order to make their research safer, unaware of the loss of legal protection that this might entail.
  12.
  13. Due to the relatively small scale of the research, and the fractional number of scientist who went through the metamorphosis, there was little in the way of actual discrimination. NanoTrasen was one of the few companies that had any such persons on retain. For NanoTrasen, there is a benefit of keeping these people in their employ. Slime people are have a certain resistance to electricity and find it easier to engage in new fields of scientific research, including the aforementioned xenobiology, high energy particle physics, and bluespace research. Despite having no means of reproduction, slime people often feel the inborn drive to reproduce, however there is no treatment currently available to facilitate this. The most common recourse for slime people is adoption.
  14.
  15. Prior to 2530, Slime People were not recognized whatsoever in primary legislation and there was no case law to work off of regarding ex-humans. However after an incident involving NanoTrasen's security forces, forcibly slime procreation via use of slime toxin, and the use of liquid nitrogen in punishment, legislators updated national law to inform civil government that forced "sliming" was a crime, punishable depending on circumstance and that guaranteed slimes certain inalienable rights, including the right not to face torture. A mere eight months later, NanoTrasen's official Space Law protocol book was amended to incorporate this change.
  16.
  17. Reversing the transmutative process is very difficult and time consuming. Simple methods such as cloning did not work, due to a lack of conventional DNA. Returning a slime person to a human body involved a difficult and dangerous brain transplant procedure that has only recently been perfected. As a result, NanoTrasen and other companies engaged in similar activities modified cloning machines onboard a number of plasma research stations to accommodate PNA, which allows for the cloning of slime people.
  18.
  19. Slime people and humans get along fairly well. Though they are still not considered human, they are guarenteed the same rights as other non-humans aboard NanoTrasen stations, including Vox and Plasmamen. As they still have human emotions and human drives, they generally make friends easily, and can relate to their human compatriots far better than alien races. Some humans insist slime people have a propensity to form powerful emotional bonds with specific humans the same way their smaller cousins do, but the only evidence of this is hearsay, and slime people reject the notion. Slime people prefer their food uncooked, as they are immune to nearly all bacteria, and have an easier time digesting the DNA of food before it has been broken down by the cooking process.
  20.
  21. Slime people are considered bothersome, uptight and arrogant by many (possibly owing to their origin among slime persons), and many often do not have a sex drive (due to the aforementioned reproduction inability.) [note: Remember Nanotrasen has strict rules regarding sexual relations between coworkers. Do not role play this into ERP territory!] As with all intelligent beings, not all slime people meet these stereotypes. Other terms for slime people include Limus or plural Limi (considered overly formal) and Genesucker (derogatory, a racial slur).
