  1. ***IMPORTANT NOTE: This guide assumes you know how to beat the game normally. It is extremely difficult to follow a speedrunning guide if you haven't beaten the game or watched others beat it. If you don't know the basic steps for beating the game, such as how to reach the Elite Four, I recommend learning this before doing runs.***
  2.
  3. BEFORE STARTING
  4. - Clear any existing save file by pressing Up+B+Select on the title screen
  5. - Set text speed to FAST, battle animation to OFF and battle style to SHIFT
  6.
  7. INTRO
  8. - Give your character and your rival a 1-character name
  9.
  10. PALLET TOWN
  11. - Choose Squirtle, and give it a 1-character name
  12. - Rival battle: Tail Whip once, then spam Tackle (use a second Tail Whip if you get Growled turn 1)
  13.
  14. ROUTE 1
  15. - Kill a Lv. 2-3 Rattata or Lv. 2-3 Pidgey using Tackle. You need the experience to get Bubble for Brock
  16. - When walking down to deliver Oak's Parcel, cut through the second-to-last patch of grass if you haven't yet fought an encounter
  17.
  18. PALLET TOWN
  19. - When delivering the parcel, walk behind Prof. Oak so your rival takes fewer steps in the cutscene
  20.
  21. VIRIDIAN CITY
  22. - Buy 6 Poke Balls
  23. - After exiting the mart, save and hard reset on this tile: http://pokeworld.herokuapp.com/rb/1#67,182
  24. > On emulator, hard reset using a hotkey
  25. > On console, hard reset by pressing the reset button (or turning the console off and on)
  26. - RNG manipulate a Lv. 4 Nidoran encounter by replicating the inputs in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPzSWHyMuW8
  27. > The manip has a 1/60 chance to produce a Lv. 4 Rattata on the desired tile
  28. > The manip has a 1/60 chance to produce no encounter on the desired tile
  29. > The manip has a 1/60 chance to produce an unrunnable Nidoran (17 HP instead of 18 at Lv. 4)
  30. > The manip has a 1/60 chance to produce a slightly worse, but still runnable, Nidoran (13 Defense instead of 14 at Lv. 8)
  31. > The manip has a 2/60 chance to produce a Nidoran that does not get in the ball with perfectly executed inputs
  32. > If the Nidoran breaks out, or you're not confident in throwing the ball perfectly, Tackle it twice before throwing a ball
  33. > If the manip fails, you might have gotten one of the 1/60 chances. Re-save to get a new chance
  34. > Give the Nidoran a 1-character name
  35. - Get the hidden tree Potion: http://pokeworld.herokuapp.com/rb/1#54,166
  36.
  37. VIRIDIAN FOREST
  38. - Follow this path (only red tiles can produce encounters): http://i.imgur.com/3o7klcA.png
  39. - Get the Antidote: http://pokeworld.herokuapp.com/rb/51#25,11
  40. - Get the hidden Potion: http://pokeworld.herokuapp.com/rb/51#1,18
  41. - Heal to 10+ HP for Weedle Guy
  42. - Weedle Guy: Tail Whip x2, Tackle x4-6. If you get poisoned, wait until after the fight to use the Antidote. If you fall below 7 HP, use a Potion
  43. - After the fight:
  44. > Switch Nidoran to the front
  45. > Heal to 17+ HP
  46. > Heal poison if necessary
  47.
  48. PEWTER GYM
  49. - Save before Brock
  50. - Brock:
  51. > Immediately switch to Squirtle
  52. > Geodude: Bubble x2-3
  53. > Switch to Nidoran after killing Geodude, then immediately switch to Squirtle
  54. > Onix: Bubble x2-3. If Onix uses Bide on the turn you switch to Squirtle, use Tail Whip twice, then Bubble
  55. > Onix does 6 damage with Tackle
  56.
  57. PEWTER CITY
  58. - Go the mart
  59. - Change the battle style option from SHIFT to SET
  60. - Buy 8 Potions
  61.
  62. ROUTE 3
  63. - You need to use one fewer Horn Attack than what's listed below, so finish enemies with Tackle when it will kill
  64. - Bug Catcher 1: Leer+Horn Attack+Horn Attack on all three
  65. - Heal to full and save before the Youngster (aka Shorts Guy)
  66. - Shorts Guy: Leer+HA+HA on both
  67. > Quick Attack does 8-10 (13-16 critical, or after a Tail Whip)
  68. > Wrap does 3 (4 critical, or after a Tail Whip)
  69. - Fight the Bug Catcher below, not the Lass above
  70. - At the start of the second Bug Catcher fight, swap Horn Attack with Leer (so Horn Attack is now in move slot 1)
  71. - Bug Catcher 2: HA+HA, HA+HA+HA, HA+HA, HA+HA+HA
  72. - Bug Catcher 3: HA+HA, HA+HA+HA+HA

  84. - RNG manipulate a Paras encounter by replicating the inputs in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P87jJkR8CyY
  85. > If you do the final turn 6 tiles earlier, you can catch the Paras on the first ball using the same inputs you used for Nidoran
  86. > The manip has a 7/60 chance to produce a bad early encounter (meaning you won't get the Paras)
  87. > The manip has a 1/60 chance to produce an early Paras (you should weaken this one, since you won't get the normal one)
  88. > The manip has a 1/60 chance to produce a Paras on the desired tile that does not get in the ball with perfectly executed inputs
  89. > If the Paras breaks out, or you're not turning 6 tiles early, or you're not confident in throwing the ball perfectly, Horn Attack it once before throwing a ball
  90. > If the manip fails, it might have been due to RNG. You can either continue as normal and perform a backup Paras manip at the end of Mt. Moon, or re-save to get a new chance
  91. - Use the Moon Stone to evolve into Nidoking before the Rocket
  92. - Rocket: HA+PS, HA+HA
  93. - Super Nerd: HA+HA, HA+PS, HA+HA(+HA)
  94. - Choose the Helix Fossil
  95. - If you don't have a Paras, use this backup manip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29TwUgeeGME
