  2. Thanks for your response to my request to present you this proposal. I
  3. urge you to be attentive to enable you absorb details of the content
  4. of this project and for further consideration. Once again my name is
  5. Naomi Hayashi and I am a staff of Bank of China, here in Hong Kong
  6. attached to Private Banking Services. I am contacting you privately
  7. concerning a customer and an investment placed under our banks
  8. management; as a matter of fact it was roughly 7 years ago. I would
  9. respectfully request that you keep the contents of this mail private
  10. and also to kindly respect the integrity of the information you come
  11. by as a result of this proposal. I contacted you independently and no
  12. one is informed of this communication; I would like to intimate you
  13. with certain facts that I believe would be of interest to you and
  14. benefits the both of us.

  16. At the very beginning of 2016, the subject matter came to our bank to
  17. engage in business discussions with our Private Banking Services
  18. Department. He informed us that he had a financial portfolio of $20
  19. Million United States Dollars, which he wished to have us turn over
  20. (invest) on his behalf based on his instructions. I was the officer
  21. assigned to his case; I made numerous suggestions in line with my
  22. duties as the De-facto chief operation officer of the Private Banking
  23. Services Department, especially given the volume of funds he wished to
  24. put into our bank.

  26. We on numerous occasions prior to any investments being placed, and
  27. however I encouraged him to consider various growth funds with prime
  28. ratings. The favored route in my advice to customers is to start by
  29. accessing data on 600 traditional stocks, bond managers and 200
  30. managers of alternative investments. Based on my advice, we spun the
  31. money around various opportunities and made attractive margins for our
  32. first months of operation, the accrued profit with interest included,
  33. stood at this point at over US$27, 712,068.00, this margin was not the
  34. full potential of the fund but he desired low risk guaranteed returns
  35. on investments and in trading market the lower the risk the lesser the
  36. profit.

  38. Towards the end of 2018, he asked that the money be liquidated because
  39. he needed to make an urgent investment requiring cash payments in
  40. Europe. He directed that I liquidate the funds and have it transfer to
  41. a firm in Europe. I informed him that our bank would have to make

  43. due process, the bank would have to make 8.9% deduction from the funds
  44. to cater for banking and statutory charges. He complained about the
  45. charges but later came around when I explained to him the complexities
  46. of the task he was asking of us. Cash movement across borders has
  47. become especially strict since the incidents of 9/11 but nevertheless
  48. I contacted the firm in Europe and had the funds transfer to mainland
  49. Europe, I undertook all the processes and make sure I followed his
  50. precise instructions. He told me he wanted the money there in
  51. anticipation of his arrival from Norway later that week. This was the
  52. last communication we had.

  54. After about few weeks I got a call from the security firm informing us
  55. of the inactivity of that particular portfolio. This was an astounding
  56. position as far as I was concerned, given the fact that I managed the
  57. private banking sector I was the only one who knew about the deposit,
  58. and I could not understand why he had not come forward to claim his
  59. deposit. I made futile efforts to locate him; I immediately passed the
  60. task of locating him to the internal investigations department of our
  61. bank. Four months later, information trickle in from British homeland
  62. security, that he was apparently dead, a person who suited his
  63. description was declared dead of a heart attack in Norway; we were
  64. soon able to gather more information and the cause of death was
  65. confirmed. With this information at hand I inform the security firm to
  66. return the transfer back to our bank in Hong Kong.
  67. Then the bank immediately launched an investigation into possible
  68. surviving next of kin to alert about the situation and also to come
  69. forward to claim his estate. If you are familiar with private banking
  70. affairs, those who patronize our services usually prefer anonymity,
  71. but also some levels of detachment from conventional processes. In his
  72. bio-data form, he listed no next of kin. In the field of private
  73. banking, opening an account with us means no one will know of its
  74. existence, accounts are rarely held under a name; depositors use
  75. numbers and codes to make the accounts anonymous. This bank also gives
  76. the choice to depositors of having their mail sent to them or held at
  77. the bank itself, ensuring that there are no traces of the account and
  78. as I said, rarely do they nominate next of kin. Private banking
  79. clients apart from not nominating next of kin also usually in most
  80. cases leave wills in our care, in this case; he died Intestate.

  83. instruction is given to officially release the deposit to you as the
  84. closest surviving associate, and all etiquette shall be done in
  85. accordance with the rule of banking laws and regulations. I certainly
  86. can guarantee you that, by the common law, the power of bequeathing is
  87. coeval with the first rudiments of the law, and this power has been
  88. extended to all. There is no ruling which prevents an inheritance from
  89. being so exhausted by legacies as to render it unworthy of the heir's
  90. acceptance; basically all persons of sound mind are competent to
  91. bequeath and devise real and personal estate, excepting infants. With
  92. all this I would say we have the clear advantage to carry out a smooth
  93. and perfect operation whereby the documentation work shall be
  94. coordinated in such a way that your status as a sole beneficiary is
  95. confirmed. Upon receipt of the deposit, I am prepared to share the
  96. money with you in half and no more; that is: I will simply nominate
  97. you as the next of kin and have them release the deposit to you;
  98. afterwards we share the proceeds in two equal parts.
  99. I would have gone ahead to ask the funds be released to me, but that
  100. would have drawn a straight line to me and my involvement in claiming
  101. the deposit, but on the other hand, you as a different foreigner would
  102. easily pass as the beneficiary with the rights to claim. I assure you
  103. that I could have the deposit released to you in a few days. I will
  104. simply inform our bank of the final closing of the file relating to
  105. the customer, and instruct them to release the deposit to you; with
  106. these two things: all is done.

  108. We can fine-tune this based on our interactions, I am aware of the
  109. consequences of this proposal and I ask that if you find no interest
  110. in this project that you should discard this mail. I ask also, that
  111. you do not be vindictive or destructive, if my offer is of no appeal
  112. to you, delete this message and forget I ever contacted you; please do
  113. not destroy my career because you do not approve of my proposal. You
  114. may not know this but people like me who have made tidy sums out of
  115. comparable situations run a whole private banking sector, I am not a
  116. criminal and what I do, I do not find against good conscience, this
  117. may be hard for you to understand, but the dynamics of my industry
  118. dictates that I make this move. Such opportunities only come ones' way
  119. once in a lifetime.
  120. I cannot let this chance pass me by and I hope you understand? Because
  121. for once I found myself in total control and face to face with my
  122. destiny. These chances won't pass me by, I ask that you do not destroy
  123. my chance, if you will not work with me please let me know, and hence
  124. move on with my life, but do not destroy me; I have worked and served
  125. in my capacity as a banker for many years, this is an occasion to
  126. provide myself with new opportunities. There is a reward for this
  127. project and it is a task well worth undertaking, I have evaluated the
  128. risks and the only risk I have here is from you refusing to work with
  129. me and alerting my bank; I am the only one who knows of this
  130. situation, good fortune will bless you and plant you into the center
  131. of relevance in my life, lets share the blessing.

  134. quick conclusion. It is necessary to inform you that under no
  135. condition should you contact me via official channels; I will simply
  136. deny knowing you and about this project. I repeat, I do not want you

  139. through this email. I do not want any direct link between you and me.
