Re zero SUFFERING

Alright SPOILER WARNING So basically I start when Emilia is about to declare her motivation speech. Ok. At last Emilia appears with Roswaal at her side. Her speech is rather held back. She declares that she wants complete equality of the races. She wants to continue what Theresia van Astrea, Reinhard's grandmother started with her heroic act of ending the human - demi human war as the Sword Saint. Subaru realizes that Emilia has no knight and that because of this people look at her with the eyes that say "of course the half-elv wouldn't have one" so he declares himself her knight. Emilia doesn't approve of it and so do others because it's clearly visible that Subaru lacks the proper behavior and skills. The knight Julius provokes him until he challenges Subaru to a duel. Subaru accepts even though the others doesn't approve. Then the duel starts and Subaru gets his ass handed to him. Eventually it becomes a bloody mess but Subaru has incredible tenacity. It becomes brutal to a point where Reinhard wants to step in but Al stops him. Subaru wants to at least hit him back so he uses his Shakma ability. The thing is, his mana gate is still fractured from arc 2 and the fight against the shaman so he immediately becomes immobile. Emilia is incredibly ashamed and shows him the cold shoulder In the end Subaru is healed but he's alone. Nearly everyone leaves him left behind even Emilia who is extremely disappointed in him. Subaru simply acted on his feelings. He falls into depression because everything he worked so hard for is gone now. But then Rem appears...she stays at his side, saying that she doesn't care what he did, he had his reasons. She is really the only person who never leaves his side. He gets invited by Crusch where he trains Sword fighting under Willhelm. Eventually he learns that Roswaal's mansion is at danger because the white whale of Gluttony appeared there. He takes Rem and immediately heads towards the mansion. Both take the fastest carriage to the mansion but halfway to the mansion it suddenly stops. They look outside and the man leading the carriage sits there beheaded. Both of them are in utter shock when suddenly both of them are thrown down to the ground, their bones almost breaking ( Betelgeuse's god hands were at work there ). Some hooded people tie them up like criminals kicks them to the ground until someone who looks like the boss appears, it's Betelgeuse. He laughs and seems really enjoyed at the look of them both being so helpless. He then starts to describe in a disturbing detail what he is about to do with them and what currently happens. He says that there was a nice little village nearby and he just came back from it. "I never knew normal people in such a simple village could scream so much, especially the children. One of them wouldn't shut up so I gently took its head and let it look at its body who has done good to finally shut up". Subaru became sick from these words but one phrase made him explode "Oh and this half-elv, I thought their blood was said to be incredibly light, almost pink but in the end all that came out of her was the usual red of intestines" That's when Subaru looses it completely: http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/rezero/images/1/1d/Re_Zero_Volume_5_12.jpeg/revision/latest?cb=20160420151428 . He tries to him them but he immediately gets beaten down, he looses consciousness. Now Rem has to suffer all alone through this and we see that. Rem and Subaru get dragged along while grinding on the ground until they reach the village ( you've seen it in episode 5 ). That's when Subaru also awakes and he sees what happens in front of him. Men instantly killed, woman tortured, children slowly killed. They are surrounded by heaps of corpses. What stands out is that all the heads with open eyes stare at the center of the village where Subaru and Rem are. Both of them are crucified on the spot, nails in their hands and feet. Then the cult members take a step back and it's Betelgeuse's turn, he's seemingly excited for what is about to happen. He says that he wants to play a game. They get to decide with whom of them both he starts after that he will have his "fun" with this person until she makes one sound. As soon as he does that he will continue on the other person until he makes a sound. Subaru is completely terrified and so is Rem but as the loyal person she is, she says that he should begin with her. Subaru is shocked a that comment, looking at her. She smiles to him until Betelgeuse starts. First the ring finger on both hands goes. Rem is able to stay quiet. Then almost all her toes go, then he starts to skin her that's when Rem can't endure it anymore and make a sound. She is shocked and immediately screams "I'm sorry" over and over.Betelgeuse stops and goes to Subaru with a sadistic smug on his face. He also starts with his fingers...Subaru has flashbacks of his deaths so he is really jumpy when it's about pain. When his first finger is cut a sound slips out of him. He can't believe it, he thinks he is pathetic, looks at Rem who just cries and closes her eyes expecting the torture to continue, but she gets cut off the cross. She falls on her knees not able to stand up because her feet are crippled. Betelgeuse grabs her hair pulls her head back and says "You're and Oni, aren't you? Only Oni could endure pain to that degree. So we missed one...no two there was one just like you with pink hair. I wonder why she couldn't endure as much as you, she died way too quickly for my taste. Maybe she was missing...this" Betelgeuse brings out Rem's horn which is her weakpoint. He takes his knife and cuts around her forehead, into her skull and scrapes out the horn. Rem screams like hell, Subaru screams at Betelgeuse, cursing him over and over and over. Betelgeuse throws his knife at him hitting Subaru at his shoulder. He screams in pain where Betelgeuse just responds "Too bad another noise, you really hate this poor girl do you?" Then he starts to finish Rem off. He takes a crucifying sword which is long and big. Then in front of Subaru's eyes he begins to cut Rem into pieces. Her arm goes, her legs goes, her head goes. Subaru vomits from the look at this and he completely looses it ( I'm sure the anime won't show it directly but we will get the hints that he cuts her body apart ). After Betelgeuse is finished he cuts off Subaru from the cross letting him be for a few minutes. Subaru is a crying mess who shakes all over his body. Eventually he crawls towards Rem or what is left of her body and just before he can reach her Betelgeuse steps on his back pulling him at his air and slitting his throat just enough so that Subaru slowly bleeds out. His first death this arc. Yep this is a taste of what awaits you in this story and scenes like that are the reason why people who are too soft couldn't continue the story. Subaru returns to the point where he has heard about the news at Roswaal's mansion and wants to head out with Rem. He is completely freaked out like episode 7 but 100x worse. He sees that Rem is fine and gets completely emotional hugging her for a long times ( http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/rezero/images/0/06/Re_Zero_Volume_6_11.jpeg/revision/latest?cb=20160420152751 ). He then tells Rem to stay her at any cost and he starts running. He doesn't want to take the carriage because this would mean he would meet "them" again. So he takes a shortcut through the woods. The way he takes leads him to the village which is on the way to the mansion. What he finds there is nothing less than hell. He slowly walks through a destroyed with bodies over bodies piled up. Everywhere is death. Eventually he finds Ram death http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/rezero/images/f/f2/Re_Zero_Volume_5_9.jpeg/revision/latest?cb=20160420151406 . Subaru even more shocked than before starts running to the mansion. But before he arrives at the mansion itself he hear screams...it's not Emilia it's Puck. He sees a body lying in front of the mansion and he immediately recognizes it as Emilia. He falls onto his knees and then realizes that Puck is going out of control. Apparently Emilia's death makes Puck go on a rampage where he isn't sane anymore. He freezes the entire region killing Subaru instantly ( In arc 4 with Ekidna Subaru sees how after Subaru's death at this point Reinhard kills Puck ). Subaru revives again At this point Subaru slowly turns into something which isn't a sane human person anymore. He pretty much lets things happens, he doesn't move an inch of his body. They ride the same carriage and they get caught again. As soon as he sees Betelgeuse's face he realizes where he is and completely looses it ( I know I say that often but it becomes worse and worse with every times ). He is driven insane from the torture he gets, he knows what will happen. He basically screams all the time to a point where Betelgeuse can't even announce his little game. He is extremely annoyed with him and cuts out Subaru's tongue and grips his throat with his invincible hands. Then he continues to torture Rem. Bit by bit he rips parts out of her body and Subaru has to watch all of it. Eventually he is killed again. At this point Subaru is a drooling madman, he does nothing, he says nothing, he shows no reaction to anything. Rem has to carry him because he is almost like in a vegetated state.Both of them are captured again but this time the torture awakes a completely different emotion...anger. In the middle of torture Subaru talks like he has never talked before. He says something along the lines "Betelgeuse, listen to what I say and even though you won't remember it until we meet again but at least know it now. I. Will. Hunt. You. Down. And I will kill you over and over and over again because only dying once is to easy of a punishment for you. Betelgeuse seemingly surprised simply laughs at it. Subaru also starts laughing a bit with a hellish smile like he is ready to kill him on the spot. As soon as he want to talk again he is killed on the spot by Betelgeuse. Subaru wakes up but with a look that could kill someone. He is 10000% serious now and you can see that the way he treats others. Subaru has already formulate a plan in which he plans to redeem himself in front of everyone. He needs their help to defeat the cult. He gains the trust of several king candidates and forms an alliance with Julius who beat him in the duel, Willhelm and the beast mercenaries working for Anastasia. The group heads off to eliminate the white whale of gluttony a huge beast which consumes ones names and memories and even their souls. If you're name gets eaten no one in the world will remember you. If you're memory is eaten you will not remember anything. If you're soul is eaten you are basically erased from this world and fall into a coma. No one remembers you and you doesn't exist anymore. Anyway the advance starts and it's almost like a small war and that's also when I completely fell in love with Crusche's character ( http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/rezero/images/2/24/Re_Zero_Volume_7_2.png/revision/latest?cb=20160420154603 ). Well a lot of people die including major characters. Subaru wants a perfect timeline where no one dies at best so he dies or kills himself numerous times.Eventually we reach the timeline that is the final one. In the fight we find out that Willhelm has a personal hatred towards this beast because it killed his wife Theresia years ago. ( I love that picture.http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/rezero/images/9/98/Re_Zero_Volume_7_10.png/revision/latest?cb=20160420154709 ) At that time she was the Sword Saint handling the same sword as Reinhard has. But as she fought this beast Reinhard inherited her power as the sword saint which resulted in her loosing it at the worst timing possible. Because of that Willhelm and Reinhard have a difficult relationship. Willhelm wants to kill this beast by any means but suddenly his dead wife appears in front of him ( this moment is the cover of the 7th volume which I love so much. http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/rezero/images/a/af/Re_Zero_Volume_7_1.png/revision/latest?cb=20160420154554 . She looks so badass and she was a badass ) Willhelm now has to face his deceased wife who is toyed with by Gluttony. We get to know about their backstory which goes back to the time when they were young ( http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/rezero/images/a/a1/Re_Zero_Volume_7_4.png/revision/latest?cb=20160420154619 ) It's a tale about a love that wasn't allowed. Willhelm was a normal boy from the village but he was extremely skilled in sword fighting. Theresia was from a noble bloodline but she's always been a person with a free mind. She didn't like it to treated better than others. Both of them had their duel and surprisingly Willhelm was the first person to ever defeat her in a honest sword duel ( if she had used her blessings she would've won clearly ). This was when Willhelm caught her interest and a really heartwarming love story began. Really I love this flashback because it's just so honest with itself. Two people who love each other struggle against the system who would never allow them to be together. The good thing is the backstory has a happy ending with both of them getting married ( http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/rezero/images/c/c8/Re_Zero_Volume_7_11.png/revision/latest?cb=20160420154718 ). Well if you look at their story at a bigger scale it's actually quite tragic because Willhelm lost his love to this monster. He could never say his farewell up to this point. The white whale lets out her soul to toy with Willhelm but he's a man who has lived decades without his wife and he has come to terms with it. Eventually he finishes his deceased wife of, laying her to rest. After that through a group effort they manage to take the white whale down with Willhelm being the one to finish it ( http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/rezero/images/a/a3/Re_Zero_Volume_7_12.png/revision/latest?cb=20160420154725 ). What we learn later is that the whale was an objective apparently so his checkpoint is moved to after the defeat of the white whale. But now the real battle starts. They face the cult of the witches. Now it really turns into a war. A lot of people on our side die because no one really knows what this cult is capable off. Subaru soon realizes that this loop is useless so before Betelgeuse can reach him and kill him brutally he chooses the painless way of dying and he beheads himself. In another loop Pandora suddenly leaves Betelgeuse's body and takes over Subaru's body. The others realize that and have to execute Subaru on the spot. Subaru understands the condition on why they had to kill him but still makes him uneasy. Through other loops Subaru slowly learns the powers and behavior of the Cult members and he uses the information. He gathers all his allies and shares his information forming a plan. With this information they are able to overwhelm the Cult members until only Betelgeuse is left, well he is a complete monster. His hands keep everyone on a certain distance but the information Subaru has gathered they are able to overwhelm Betelgeuse and kill him. Willhelm is the one striking him down but not killing him. Now Subaru can finally get his revenge. In a way that makes even the other uneasy he stabs Betelgeuse over and over and over and over until he dies. He lets out all the the suffering he had to endure, all the anger because of what he's done his loved ones and to himself. The people around him don't know about the previous loops and what Subaru experienced so they are somewhat shocked on how Subaru behaves. After Subaru finally could get this weight off his shoulders Emilia arrives. He is quick to clean himself and act like that never happened. Emilia apologizes, he has gained her trust back. Then our group finds out that Crusche got her memory eaten which means she doesn't remember who she is. As a candidate for the throne this is a serious issue. It's now up to Ferris and Willhelm, her knights to take care of her as she is a helpless girl caught up into a bloody war she doesn't know anything off. That's a moment where I really respect Subaru. He has the power to decide whether the fate that the people have in this loop is something they have to live with or not. He is the one to decide whether ones death is enough to deem this loop as unsuccessful. They had some casualties but in the end Subaru deems this loop as a success ( parts of him simply don't want to go through any suffering anymore, he's just done ). Subaru says that he wants to return to Rem delivering the great news and then it happens.... Emilia: "Who is Rem?" At this moment Subaru's face turns from smiling to shock. Without saying anything he starts to run, run like he never has run before. And then he finds Rem, the one person who never left his side when everyone else did, her soul eaten, just a mere body without any soul. Emilia doesn't understand what's going on and as she arrives all she says is "Huh? She looks like Ram...may her soul rest in peace" Subaru is in complete denial...he lays Rem on the ground...he stands up not facing Emilia...he unsheathes his sword...he changes his grip...holding the blade towards his neck...her eyes are widening...she starts to run towards him screaming...but before she can reach him, he beheads himself right in front of her. Subaru suffered so much, did so much for this loop to be perfect but now he finds Rem dead. But then he restarts...the first thing he hears is "..looks like Ram...may her soul rest in peace". Subaru looks down and this soulless body he once called Rem is in his arms. He drops her, starts screaming...Emilia is absolutely frightened...he takes out his sword in a rush and rams it through his heart..over and over and over. He loops over and over and over...until he snaps out of his insanity. It's the first time where Subaru couldn't change the death of someone close to him. He realizes that he was way too careless with his return by death. He now has to live with the constant fear that if someone dies the checkpoint could have moved past their death so he can't change it. Ever since that moment Subaru changes extremely.Well then arc 3 ends in sadness. Something made me wonder, I thought the hands don't work on Subaru? And didn't the wise magical negro get roadkilled? And Subaru used the witch to strangle himself and Betelgeuse, didn't he?
