  1. Chapter 1
  2.
  3. The sunset of a mid July day gave a orange glow to the sky as the sun began to set. A lone Gallade sat at the top of a wooded hill overlooking the sun setting over the field. He had just finished foraging for berries to take back home. After enjoying the sun he grabbed his pouch of berries and set off for home.
  4.
  5. As he started to walk back through the woods, he noticed a mound to his right. He remembered his father warning him not to go near it when he was only a Kirlia. “But why?” he asked himself as his curiosity began to take hold over him. He walked up to the mound, nothing too special about it at a moments glance. But when he decided to look at it a bit closer he noticed something sticking out of it.
  6.
  7. Digging through the pile he found some rather odd items. Some of the items he found were wires, metal plates, and a Diglett who was rather upset due to it's unearthing. The Gallade had no idea what any of this stuff was, and decided to leave. Just as he began to leave, something else caught the Gallade's eye. It was cylindrical in shape, albeit somewhat irregular with some deformities throughout it. It had a dome of sorts over the top half of it made out of some sort of clear substance. This caught his attention.
  8.
  9. On the inside of this odd artifact was a array of coils and other things that was completely alien to to Gallade. As he looked at the oddity he soon decided that it would be best to continue on his way back home as he grabbed the item and put it in the bag that carried his berries.
  10.
  11. He soon made it back to his home, a old log cabin that had been abandoned years ago. When he made it to the doorway, he moved aside the boards laying over the doorway to act as a makeshift door, and proceeded to enter the cabin.
  12.
  13. “You are back a bit later than normal.” A voice called out in the Gallade's head.
  14.
  15. Noticing the other entity in the room with him, the Gallade called to it telepathically. “The fields where most of the berries are at did not have much to give. So I had to travel a bit farther out to find some.” He said as he lifted up a patch of loose floorboards to put the bag of berries in a safe place.
  16.
  17. “Hmm, the pickings are getting slim, perhaps we should save some of these for planting.” Came the voice. “I though all the new ones we planed would have been enough.” As the voice came into view. It was a Gardevoir, middle aged but other than that not much different than any other of his kind.
  18.
  19. “I thought it would too. It's going to be harder to get food around he if we don't do something quick.” The Gallade added in as he put the floorboards back in place.
  20.
  21. “I'm thinking sooner will be better as well. Tomorrow we can head out a plant a few of the ones you picked today. In the meantime, I'm going to bed. You should do the same.” The Gardevoir said as he walked into another room of the old cabin.
  22.
  23. After waiting for the coast to clear the Gallade went back over to the floorboards that hid the berry pouch. And retrieved the artifact he had found earlier, and went to his room of the cabin.
  24.
  25. The inside of the Gallade's room was barren to say the least. It sported a cot made with milkweed fluff and shed skirts of a gardevoir, no doubt his fathers. Along with a old dresser that was beginning to rot and fall apart. A few other oddities the Gallade had found throughout the years had been stored inside the old dresser, as he had no clothes to store in it.
  26.
  27. He sat down on his cot and positioned the artifact in his hand between him and the window. The sun was not completely set and this gave the sky a bright orange hue to it, tinting the glass dome of the artifact a similar color.
  28.
  29. Still this only served to make the Gallade feel more curious about the items purpose. “Perhaps dad will know something about this.” He thought. “I remember he used to live with the humans, I'm sure he knows.”
  30.
  31. A nearby Murkrow began it's nightly caw as it did every night. Many of the others living in the forest took this sound as a warning to seek shelter for the night. The Gallade took this as a reason to rest for the night.
  32.
  33. As the Gallade lay down to sleep, he felt himself drift off into sleep. He began to dream his normal set of his erotic fantasies coming to life. He felt at peace.
  34.
  35.
  36. ----
  37.
  38. “Ah, god dammit.” A voice called out from under the car. “The fucking hose clamp is busted and I can't get it off.”
  39.
  40. “Then get some channel locks and tear it off,” said a man in his late teens.
  41.
  42. “Yeah, don't look like that will work. Things on there pretty tight, and I reckon that if we went through with your idea. We might end up puncturing a hole in the radiator pipe,” came the voice from under the car again.
  43.
  44. “You know we were supposed to replace that hose as well Lee, see? The papers don't lie.” Said the younger man holding a notepad with a checklist on it. “Remember what Sanders said?”
  45.
  46. “Eh, yeah I know”
  47.
  48. “And what did he say?” the younger man said in a more annoying tone.
  49.
  50. “It means that you are going to get a torque wrench up your ass, Ray” Lee snapped.
  51.
  52. “You know for somebody who looks like you are trying to prevent a bunch of kids from stealing your lucky charms, you defiantly are quite the piss stain.”
  53.
  54. Before Lee could reply a voice rang out calling for Ray. “Guess the boss wants me,” Ray said in a rather victorious tone as he walked away thanking his lucky starts for having a excuse to leave the piss filled leprechaun alone.
  55.
  56. Ray walked into the garages office and greeted by his boss, Mr. Sanders. “You know that our maintenance company is branching out correct?” Mr. Sanders asked.
  57.
  58. “I heard rumors, but nothing more Sir.”
  59. Sanders took up a clipboard and started to speak. “The reason I brought you in here is because most of the expansions are out of country. And some of the other garages opening up have a massive defecate of anybody with the skills they need. That is why they need some people how have gone though our full maintenance training to go teach at theses new places. And we have chosen you as a potential candidate for one of these positions. Would you be willing to do something like that?”
  60.
  61. “I don't know sir, depends on where it is. Almost sounds like you are asking me to move out of the country.”
  62.
  63. “Yeah pretty much.” Sanders began as he began looking though his notebook to see where Ray's potential stationing will be at.
  64.
  65. “...Huh.. dammit I can't find the papers saying where.” Sanders said while struggling to find the papers on his clipboard. “I'll try to get the information to you when I find it. But anyways I suggested you to the higher ups as a foreman for some of the new maintenance facilities out of country. Still sound good to you?”
  66.
  67. Ray stood there, internally debating the decision given to him. He spoke up after a few seconds. “Like I said earlier Sir. I don't know, you are asking something from me that I don't know I can do.”
  68.
  69. Sanders knew Ray enough to know that he was going to give this answer. “I don't expect you to come to a conclusion on the spot. But it is something I think you should think about. And I mean really think about it. But I will say this. The higher ups are willing to pay for your housing and the sort. Just think how much of a opportunity that will be.”
  70.
  71. Ray continued to think about this. He had mixed feelings about his homeland. He both loved and hated it. On the one hand, it was where he grew up. He knew this place like the back of his hand. And on the other side of things, he realized that this place was nothing special, unless you like a pseudo culture war between hicks and hippies.
  72.
  73. While weighing out the pros and cons of the situation. Ray heard a “Ah fuck” coming from Lee. “I think I should get back out and hope that our resident leprechaun has not set himself on fire.” Sander could not help but laugh as Ray walked out of his office.
  74.
  75. Ray walked back over to the car that Lee was still under. “Hell was that about?” Lee asked.
  76.
  77. “Sanders says you're a cunt.” Ray said ignoring the look of anger on Lee's face.
  78.
  79. “No seriously, what was it?” Lee asked in a much harsher tone.
  80.
  81. Ray leaned down to see what progress Lee had done on the plumbing. “Potential transfer stuff. How's that hose coming.”
  82.
  83. “Transfer huh.” Lee scoffed. “Hopefully I get lucky and you leave me in peace. Oh and it's about off, bastard had to get cut off.”
  84.
  85. The duo continued to work on the car in silence until the end of the shift. “Be sure to put a sticky note on the replacement hose that tells whoever is coming in next shift to fuck off from this thing.” Ray said, cleaning off his geese filled hands.
  86.
  87. “My pleasure.” Lee commented while scratching a rather vulgar note down and setting it on the hood of the car.
  88.
  89. Ray walked into the break room that served as a classroom of sorts for when Sanders decided to shame people who mess up a repair job. Such examples hung from a bulletin board. Blown fuses, stripped bolts, and other stuff of a similar nature.
  90.
  91. Ray began filling his daily “end of shift” paperwork just as Sanders walked in. “I found the papers, they somehow the managed to find themselves into my lunch box.” Sanders said as he held up some papers in his hand. “Says here you will be transferred to one of those Poke men regions, more specificity the Terra region.” Sanders red out loud.
  92.
  93. “I think that name just means dirt in another language.” Lee's voice came from just outside the doorway.
  94.
  95. Ray finished his paperwork and putting it in his file. “I'm out Sir, I'll see you on Tuesday.” Ray exited the building and got into his car.
  96.
  97. After starting his car, he began to think about what this transfer may bring to his life. He was still conflicted about the choices that were in front of him. He thought about what his parents would think about it. But those thoughts were quickly overpowered by his knowledge that this town is just another hell hole with more than it's fair share of problems.
  98.
  99. He continued to drive down the highway until he came to his home, a apartment building. Ray pulled in and proceeded to walk up to his room, apartment 475. He unlocked the door and entered it.
  100.
  101. It was a modest home Ray lived in. It lacked a lot of any decorations of any sort, or furniture for that matter, only the essentials. The rest still packed away in storage due to his lack of a place to put any of his other items. He locked the door behind him as he went into the kitchen to grab something to drink.
  102.
  103. Picking were slim for beverages, only a few cans of cola and plastic bottles of water remain in the refrigerator. Ray grabbed one of the cans of cola, and went into his bedroom.
  104.
  105. Ray thought to himself as he chugged down his cola. “Can't be too bad now can it?” He thought to himself. “Knowing Sanders he is just going to end up sending me any information he has about the place.”
  106.
  107. Ray walked into his bedroom. A large air mattress served as his bed. He never liked to spend too much money, and thus ended up with few possessions.
  108.
  109. He drank the rest of the cola and set it on the nightstand next to his bed. “Perhaps I can think about it more in the morning.” He thought to himself as he fell asleep.
  110.
  111.
  112.
  113. Chapter 2
  114.
  115. The Gallade woke up with the morning Taillow's as they began the morning routine of chirping. He could hear commotion in the other room as he heard his father toss a rock into the cluster of Taillow's to, “get them to piss off.”
  116.
  117. The Gallade continued on with his normal morning routine. Picking up the floorboards to eat some of the berries he put there last night, and continuing off to the river near the cabin to enjoy cleaning himself off in the cold water. After he finished taking a swim in the river, he went back to the cabin. There he found his father floating the artifact the Gallade had found just yesterday a few inches above his fingers using telekinesis.
  118.
  119. “Now where did you find this?” He asked, averting his gaze from the object to the Gallade who looked rather guilty.
  120.
  121. “I-I, um...found it just walking around in the woods last night.”
  122.
  123. “And?” The Gardevoir spoke with a rather mischievous look on his face expecting more of an answer from his son.
  124.
  125. “W-What? That's how I found it, I swear”
  126.
  127. “I believe you, but you left out the fact that you dug around in that old trash pile to find this thing. I don't even have to peer into your mind to see that, your face give it all away.”
  128.
  129. The Gallade froze. He knew ever since he was little that he was not supposed to be digging around in that thing.
  130.
  131. “You know good and well that you are not supposed to be doing that.”
  132.
  133. The Gallade's stance sulked a bit, and he replied with, “Yeah.”
  134.
  135. The Gardevoir walked over to his son and put a hand on his shoulder. “Look, I know I told you not to go messing around over at that trash heap. And I know you have grown up since I told you.
  136.
  137. “Yeah that was around the time I just became a Kirlia when you warned me of it.”
  138.
  139. “Yes I know. Now you are a full grown Gallade, more of a man than I ever was.” The Gardevoir said with a rather envious tone. “I think it's about time you make your own decisions in life without your old man to guide you.”
  140.
  141. “Well I have always wanted to explore where the humans live, see what it is like.”
  142.
  143. “I was afraid of that” The Gardevoir began.” Humans can be dangerous, and I would not exactly be around to guide you through that world. And plus I still need you to help out around here.” The Gardevoir gave a look to his son that said “I know you have no choice in the matter.”
  144. “That being said.” The gardevoir continued. “I need you to plant some berries out near the river. I'll be over in the fields planting some more berries if you need any help.”
  145.
  146. The Gallade brought up the floorboards that hid the berries and grabbed the bag that held them. He gave his father some of the berries out of the bag and walked out the door to the river.
  147.
  148. “It's time I should tell him.” The Gardevoir said to himself as he watched his son out by the river, using the blades on his elbows as a sort of hoe to make the planting process go by quicker. “If he want's to get
  149. captured and end up as some sort of plaything for the humans. Then there is no better way to go about doing that.” The gardevoir continued.
  150.
  151. Both the Gardevoir and Gallade worked well into the day. The Gardevoir finished planting berries first and went over to help his son.
  152.
  153. “You know I have been thinking about what you said about wanted to explore the human world.” The Gardevoir began as he grabbed a few berries out of the Gallade's bag to plant. “If you truly wish to venture into that world there are a few things you must know first.”
  154.
  155. “What's that?” The Gallade asked as he dug out some ruts in the ground to plant berries in.
  156.
  157. “Humans capture us. And by us I mean all Pokemon. They trap you inside these balls, and they make you fight other Pokemon until either you or your opponent pass out.”
  158.
  159. “Sounds...brutal” The Gallade quivered as he thought about it.
  160.
  161. “But the thing is, not all humans do that. Sometimes they just keep you as a pet of, doomed to be treated like a child.
  162. But perhaps that's just the stereotype of the whole situation. You see I used to belong to a young human woman by the name of Sara.” The Gardevoir looked down with a rather somber look on his face as he threw a berry into the hole he just dug.
  163.
  164. “So you were captured?” The Gallade asked has he dug out a small trench to the river for water.
  165.
  166. “Somewhat, I was owned by that girl ever since I hatched.
  167. You see, humans often make other Pokemon breed so they can profit off of selling the young. The parents of the young who get sold do it sometimes for for or for money.”
  168.
  169. The Gallade was taken back by this. He remembered very little of his mother. And with this new information he had just been given, he suspected that that was how he came to be. “So is this how you met my mother?” He asked, as he stopped digging to look up at his father who had a rather uncomfortable look on his face.
  170.
  171. “Sadly, yes. Sara had wanted to look after a Ralts when she became a full grown woman. Perhaps it was just parental instincts starting to kick in.
  172. Anyways, she took me down to a day care one day and told me what was going to happen. I was going to breed with another Gardevoir and then we were going to take the egg back to our home.” The Gardevoir couldn't help but smirk about the story he was telling. And paused for a moment to throw another berry into it's hole.
  173.
  174. “When my time over at that place ended, I came back to my home with Sara, holding your egg in my arms. Sara got very excited when she first saw what I was holding. I'll never forget that look of pure joy on her face.
  175. She had a place set up for you when we got back, some sheets in a milk crate with a heat lamp overhead
  176. to keep you warm. She felt so proud of herself when she showed that to me, and to be honest, I was as well. Proud not only in the fact that she was proud of her creation, but because I would have a child of my own.” The Gardevoir began to get a bit misty eyed from his story.
  177.
  178. After a few moments of looking down at the ground the Gardevoir continued his story.“After you hatched Sara was completely overjoyed, I had never felt anything like it before. She held onto you for most of the day, treating you like her own child. This had also made his more... attached to me as well. To her I was her mate, and she treated me accordingly. Of course disregarding the actual act of mating.”
  179.
  180. The Gallade stood there forgetting about his job at hand thinking about the story his father had just told him. He questioned what a lot of the things were that his father mentioned, and that only served to furthermore increase his curiosity of the human world. “What is a 'day care'? What is a 'heat lamp'” he asked himself as if he himself knew those answers.
  181.
  182. “About a week after you hatched.” The Gardevoir continued on with his story. “Sara invited me into her bed. I thought it was a little weird at the time considering how only lovers are portrayed as sharing a bed, but she convinced me otherwise. After a few weeks since then, she began be act a bit weird towards me, like how the other Gardevoir at the day care acted towards me. After a few more days of that she tried doing something rather odd to me.
  183. That night I felt her grab me down under my skirt. Apparently she had wanted to mate with me. I was rather taken back by this. Yes I had been with her my entire life, but was I ready for this?” The Gardevoir started to blush uncontrollably from this.” I soon decided to do it with her. Apparently the people next door must of taken notice of it and called the cops on us and I soon found myself being probed by a Alakazam for 'evidence'. You see Humans have a very strict set of rules. You break any of them and you find yourself punished for doing so. That day I found out that Humans and Pokemon mating goes against several of those rules.
  184.
  185. This part of the story did not help the Gallade with his job, as he had been sitting down listening to it for the past few minuets. “That does not seem rather fair” He added in.
  186.
  187. “They have their reasons” The Gardevoir added. “Anyways, some of the higher ranking humans tole me that I was not allowed to go anywhere near Sara anymore. Can't say that she got off Scot free as well because the same humans told her that she could not have Pokemon in her custody anymore. So I decided to go back to her house as she was still in the courthouse. Back there I took you, left a note telling her what I was doing. And left for the wild.
  188. And I'm sure you know where the rest falls in place I'm sure.”
  189.
  190. The Gallade nodded, still sitting down and looking up at his father.
  191.
  192. “Good, now get up we still have more work that needs to be done.” The Gardevoir grabbed his son by the arm and pulled him up to his feet.
  193.
  194.
  195. ----
  196.
  197. The Gallade's dreams the night of his fathers story were different. His father would share his dreams from time to time, to teach him abilities that he would use to protect himself from the stray Poochyena and the sort. But this was nothing like any of that, no sense of fatherly love, just a cold emotionless feeling.
  198.
  199. He looked at his soundings to get a understanding of where he was at. In front of him there was a tall stone wall, nothing special to it, other than how smooth it was. He check his sides, still more walls, a few other odd items dotted along side them, but still nothing that got his attention. He looked back away from where he started facing the wall. His eyes felt like they were burning, as if he was starring right at the sun. He held his arm up in front of his face to block out the brunt of the light, and after a few his eyes started to adjust.
  200.
  201. What he saw in front of him was myriad of lights flashing, almost as if they were competing with one another to be the most flashy. He walked out of the dead end he found himself in. Taken back by finding his father leaning on the side of the wall that had been obscured while he was in the alley.
  202.
  203. “I remember that place over there was the first time I ever had a burger.” The Gardevoir said, pointing a finger over to one of the flashing signs that said 'Ron's Grill'
  204.
  205. “Burg?” The Gallade asked with rather confused look on his face.
  206.
  207. The Gardevoir looked at his son with a rather smug smile. “Hey Skirty. Your burg's done.” He said in a deeper and more rough voice than he normal spoke in. What was also different about this was that he spoke using his mouth, rather than telepathy.
  208.
  209. The Gallade would hear his father make odd noises with his mouth whenever he would smash his hand on something. Just a few words that he did not understand, rather than a full sentence like he just uttered.
  210.
  211. The Gallade could only look as his father in confusion. “Sorry, I just have too many memories here. Wonder what this place looks like today. Wish Ron's is still there.” The Gardevoir said with a rather upbeat tone.
  212.
  213. “Where is....Here?” The Gallade asked, still confused from sensory overload.
  214.
  215. “Oh, sorry. Here was my old stomping grounds of sorts. “Here” is Riverwood. One of the many places humans call home. Well, and Pokemon too, but the humans made this place so it's fair to call it theirs.” The Gardevoir said having his attention caught by a sign that said “Liquor”
  216.
  217. “Hardly looks homely.” The Gallade interjected, looking around the street they were on.
  218.
  219. “You learn to live with it, and then it gets fun.” The Gardevoir still looking around for recognizable signs that marked his favorite spots on main street. “You see, the reason why I shared this memory with you was so that I could muster up the courage to join you for your quest to see the human world.
  220.
  221. The Gallade felt like he expected that to come, but never realized it. “I was just blubbering back then, you know? I mean, it was just one of those spur of the moment sort of things you just don't put that much though behind.”
  222.
  223. “Sometimes acting without thinking is how we work. You just go with the flow.” The Gardevoir started making weird wave motions with his arms. “And I guess I want to go back and see my old home as well. And of course, go see if Ron is still around, bastard still owes me a free slider.”
  224.
  225. “So what do we do with our home?” The Gallade asked.
  226.
  227. “We can always come back It's not like we are going to burn it down if we leave it for a few weeks. Plus I'm sure we can get one of the local Lilligant's to look after the place, they seems friendly enough. Now, the last thing is. Do you want to go out and explore what the humans have to offer?”
  228.
  229. The Gallade let out a sigh. He asked himself if he was up for this adventure. But despite all the dangerous things his father had warned him about, he felt as if he was ready for this.
  230.
  231. “I-I think so.” The Gallade said softly.
  232.
  233. A Poochyena appeared next to his father. This was something he normally did for training his son against a simulation of the real thing. But it was completely still, as if it had been frozen in place. The Gardevoir ran up to it and kicked it right in the side, sending it into the window of one of the buildings. No doubt using the dream to bend reality to make it more dramatic.
  234.
  235. The Gardevoir looked back up at his son. “I'm proud of your for making that decision. Now I want us to head out right after the next batch of berries get ripe. You got it?”
  236.
  237. “Y-yes.” The Gallade stuttered.
  238.
  239. “Good, now goodnight.” The Gardevoir said as the Gallade's view became completely black and morphed into a more “normal” dream.
  240.
  241.
  242.
  243. Chapter 4
  244.
  245.
  246. Ray woke up to the sound of his phone going off. He sat up in his bed looking over to his night stand where he left his phone and the empty can of cola the previous night. He attempted to get the phone off the nightstand with a awkward slap. This proved as an effective way to knock over a can of cola.
  247.
  248. Disgruntled, he tried again. His anger waking him up further.
  249.
  250. This time he was successful in grabbing it, at the cost of his good mood. Checking the phone he saw that it was a message from Sanders. The message was brief and to the point. “Call me when you get the chance.” Ray set his phone back down and cursed Sanders under his breath for making him wake up at this ungodly hour of just-past-ten. Ray gave in to the fact that he would not be falling back to sleep anytime soon, so he decided to go make himself some breakfast.
  251.
  252. Ray walked into his kitchen, grabbing several slices of bread and laying them onto a skillet and tossing a few pieces of sliced cheese on them to make his daily shit tier grilled cheese. After his breakfast had finished cooking, he took it into the living room.
  253.
  254. The room was just like the rest of his apartment, barren but still a place to call home.
  255. Ray entered it to see his computer still where he left it. A TV that served as his monitor stood on the carpet.
  256.
  257. Ray booted on his computer and opened up some old comedy to watch while he ate his breakfast. He sat down in a old car seat he grabbed out of a car that was about to get scrapped, and set his plate on his lap.
  258.
  259. It was hard to think about his current position and watch his show at the same time. As he thought about his life, he found that grilled cheese and comedy was not the best idea for times that require any substantial form of thought.
  260.
  261. Ray took the last bite out of his grilled cheese and looked back up at the screen. A man dressed in a speedo held a lighter up to his rear as he jumped off of the roof of a house. Ray was not paying too much attention to the show to understand the context behind it, so he turned it off and walked back into his bedroom.
  262.
  263. In his bedroom he grabbed his phone. He looked again at the message that Sanders had sent him. He opened up his contact list and pressed on the button to dial his dad's phone. Ray had always called his parents when he needed help with anything that did not involve wrenching on things.
  264.
  265. “Hello?” Came a familiar voice through the phone.
  266.
  267. “Hey dad it's me. I wanted to talk to you about something big.” Ray sat down on his bed as he began talking.
  268.
  269. “Oh? What's going on? You get a girlfriend?” Ray father jokingly asked.
  270.
  271. “No, nothing like that. You see my job is willing to pay for a house for me over in the Terra region and hook me up with a pretty good gig over there. All I have to do is just agree to it and I'm off. And I just want to know what is your take on me moving out of the country.”
  272.
  273. Ray's father took a moment to think about it. “In the end I can't choose for you, but I know this is something that should be right up your alley. And I know it may be a bit hard to choose considering that this is where your family is all at. But I think you should really begin to think about going to more exotic places, broaden your horizons.”
  274.
  275. Ray had heard this song and dance from his father before. But he felt that if it were to be said again, it just might help him. “What about you and mom?” He asked
  276.
  277. “We can handle ourselves. For gods sake, I'm not that old.”
  278.
  279. Ray let out a small chuckle. “Well at least I feel a bit better about leaving you.”
  280.
  281. “So you are leaving? Or are you just being indecisive again?”
  282.
  283. Ray sighed and was silent for a second. “Alright, I'll go, you have convinced me with your passive aggressive sweet talking.”
  284.
  285. “Oh, Ray. While you are over there. Would you mind drawing a few dicks on the train cars for me?” Ray's dad asked in a joking tone.
  286.
  287. “Yeah, sure thing dad.”
  288.
  289. “Alright boy, I'm out. Hope to hear more from you if you get over there.”
  290.
  291. “Will do”. Ray hung up the phone feeling a bit better about himself for the decision that he is about to make.
  292.
  293. Ray opened back up his phone to look for Sanders contact. A picture of sanders trying to put out a fire on the arm of his welding jacket popped up as Ray pressed the call button.
  294.
  295. “Hello my boy.” Sanders voice said though the phone. “You come to a decision yet?”
  296.
  297. “Yeah, I have. I'll do it. What needs to be done before I leave, if anything?”
  298.
  299. “Well there are few papers I need you to sign” Sanders began. “I also received a few educational videos for getting used to life over there. Hope you got a VCR because the poor bastards sent me a tape.”
  300.
  301. Ray thought for a second .“I think I still have my old one packed away in storage.” Ray looked over to the corner of his room where several heavy duty plastic totes lay, looking for one labeled “Dead childhood memories.”
  302.
  303. “Ah good” Sanders began. “I'll have everything sent to you via courier, should be at your place later on tonight. Until then, do some homework on your new home.”
  304.
  305. Ray rolled his eyes at the thought of homework, remembering how boring Sanders lectures on brake systems were. “Uh, yeah.” He replied after realizing he spent too long reminiscing over things.
  306.
  307. “Well I'm off. The misses has plans for lunch with some of her friends, and I am obliged to join her.” Sanders said with rather nervous tone to his voice.
  308.
  309. Ray gave off a hum in agreement to sanders rather nervous tone. “Ah it you will be fine.” Ray playfully said. “Anyways I'm going back to bed. Call me back once you survive lunch.”
  310.
  311. “Will do, wish I could take a nap now as well.” A small click came from Ray's phone, signifying that the call had ended. Ray's eyes soon turned to his bed. A small twin futon, that according to Ray “smells life depression and wank.” He flopped down his his depression mattress and just sat there, looking up what information he could about this so called “Terra region.”
  312.
  313.
  314. ----
  315.
  316.
  317. The Gallade placed the floor boards back into place. A bad taste in his mouth lingered from a Pecha berry that had not had time to fully ripen. He had gotten used to the taste when they had no choice but to harvest early.
  318.
  319. “I remember somebody telling me to always look at the silver linings to things. You know what that means, right?” The Gardevoir's voice rang inside his son's head.
  320.
  321. “Silver?” Was all that came to the Gallade's mind
  322.
  323. Slightly annoyed by his son's inability to understand common sayings. He spoke up to explain it to him. “It means that you should always look at the good thing that come from bad things. For example I don't have to plant as much berries if you are not around.”
  324.
  325. “I don't get it...”
  326.
  327. The Gardevoir annoyed more by his son spoke up again. “Forget it.” He began. “I put some more thought into things this morning, and I think it will be best for you if you do end up leaving and going to explore the world.”
  328.
  329. “I want to dad. But I don't know if I am ready to go out on my own.”
  330.
  331. “Believe me son, I can tell that you are ready. You may not know it. But I can feel it within you.” The Gardevoir grabbed a half ripe Oran berry and took a bite out of it. “I can sense you are stressed by this. And I don't blame you. The choice you make here could change you, for better or worse. However I do urge you to at least think about it.”
  332.
  333. Pondering the risks, and the rewards of such and journey. The Gallade found that little of what his father had warned him about, to actually be threatening. The “threat” he felt was not truly something to be scarred about. But rather something to marvel at.
  334.
  335. “If I do end up being captured. How strong can humans be anyways? From what I know they can't use any abilities like me, so what is the big deal?” The Gallade thought to himself. His reasoning for this was (at least to him) sound.
  336.
  337. “I am ready” The Gallade stood up straight, trying his best to look ready for his adventure.
  338.
  339. Amused by his son's enthusiasm, the gardevoir grabbed a extra sack from under the floorboards and filled it with berries. “Come, I will show you the first step to your journey.” The Gardevoir said as he led his son out of the cabin.
  340.
  341. “Wait!” The Gallade called out right as he left the cabin. “I want to bring something else with me.” The Gallade ran into his room and grabbed the item he found in the junk pile just a few days prior.
  342.
  343. The Gardevoir stood outside, hearing his son fumble around in his room to find the item.“You about done in there, I don't want to wait all day.” The Gardevoir said, arms folded.
  344.
  345. The Gallade rushed back out of the cabin to join back up with his father as they walked into the woods.
  346.
  347. A silence between the two lingered until the Gallade spoke up.“Where are you taking me?” He asked, keeping pace with his father.
  348.
  349. “The Highway. From there you can travel along it to reach Riverwood. There I would suggest getting a trainer. Somebody to look after you. Somebody to make sure you don't mess things up.”
  350.
  351. “Is it like a path that humans use?”
  352.
  353. “In a way, yes. But I think it is best for you to see it, or else you will just ask more questions.”
  354.
  355. The Gallade felt offended from his fathers rather snarky comment. “That is why I want to go. I want you to stop being so mad when I don't understand something.”
  356.
  357. “You are taking things too personal. Yeah I get annoyed by your lack of a education at times, but I put up with it . So we gonna start walking again or just sit here doing nothing?
  358.
  359. The Gallade took this question as a sign to start walking again. And about a hour later they found themselves at a cleared out stretch in the woods marking where the Highway lays.
  360.
  361. “Well here we are, Patterson's Highway. Linking the city's of Riverwood and Grand Bay together. Now If I were you, I would head to Riverwood. There the people are a bit more friendly and willing to help you out than they are over in Grand Bay. Now then the only challenge you face right now is to know which direction to go. If you go north, you should reach Riverwood in about 4 hours. If you go south, you will hit Grand Bay in time for dinner.”
  362.
  363. The Gallade felt a bit of stress knowing that his choice will affect his livelihood in unforeseeable ways. He pondered this though for a bit, but could not come up with a answer. “I don't know what path to take.” He asked his father.
  364.
  365. “Look up into the sky and tell me what you see.” The Gardevoir sat down on a grassy knoll. “You see the sun right?”
  366.
  367. “Yes, I do. Why do you ask?”
  368.
  369. “Here is a little trick for when you are lost. Look into the sky and see where the sun is. If you know it is morning, the sun should rise in the east. If it is getting dark then it should set in the west. Knowing where the sun is we can tell what direction north is.” The Gardevoir pointed one of his fingers down the road.
  370.
  371. The Gallade noticed a blur coming towards them from the direction the Gardevoir was pointing.“Hey dad what's that?” The Gallade asked, his hand placed over his brow to get a better view of the entity coming towards them.
  372.
  373. “That's a car, just stay out of the road when they come by or else they will run into you. And you will more than likely die from getting hit by them.”
  374.
  375. The Gallade was frightened by this and took a few steps away from the road to give it some room. After a few moments the car passed. A tan SUV with a boat strapped to the top zoomed past them.
  376.
  377. “Lot of people go to boat the canal over in Grand Bay. It's one of the things that people from elsewhere like to do when they have nothing else to do.
  378.
  379. Knowing where to go the Gallade stepped onto the road. The black asphalt felt hard, but warm under his feet. “You coming with me?” The Gallade asked turning around to look at his father.
  380.
  381. “Sadly no, like I said I still need to look after the house and the fields. Make sure nothing bad happens to them. I am sure we will see each other again soon.” The Gardevoir sat up from his knoll and hugged his son.
  382.
  383. “I'm gonna miss you dad.”
  384.
  385. “I'll miss you too son. Just stay out of trouble for me okay? And if you do mess something up, make sure you come back with some good stories for me will ya?”
  386.
  387. The Gallade left the embrace of his father. “I'll be sure to tell you everything, I promise.” He turned around to look at the road that would lead him to a new life.
  388.
  389. The Gardevoir sat back down on his small grassy hill. Watching the one thing he had cared for walk away from him. “I hope I don't regret letting him do this” He said as he started to walk back to the cabin.
