  1. From Aaron:
  2.
  3. Since you have requested a response, I shall take the time and effort to
  4. respond as well as I can, although due t time constraints I have decided
  5. to do this at work and therefore may keep some of my
  6. explanations/discussions short. If some of my explanations are unclear,
  7. feel free to request a clarification. Take note that I have every
  8. intention of our interaction being as frank civil as possible, but we
  9. obviously have a number of differences of opinion. I am also willing to
  10. hear whatever responses with an open mind.
  11.
  12. For brevity and clarity's sake I shall respond to sections of your post
  13. as in order as possible and reference the relevant paragraphs by number
  14. (the first one being paragraph 1).
  15.
  16. <Paragraph 1>
  17. I was well aware of this and in general was happy enough with it.
  18.
  19. <Paragraph 2>
  20. This was easy enough to see. There is a bit of a sticking point about
  21. Micolous bringing you into this without the admin's approval in regards
  22. to due process.
  23.
  24. <Paragraph 3>
  25. I was aware of how much work you did with him and the quality of your
  26. work. I would like to point out that getting to the point you brought
  27. everything did take you guys a lot of time and along the way not
  28. everything you had produced was as functional as it is now and you guys
  29. often did skip due process for release/testing which on a number of
  30. occasions broke usability (the most recent example would be switching
  31. the POS software over which actually caused us to have less
  32. functionality and due to a lack of training or demonstration resulted in
  33. a very steep/unpleasant learning curve). Besides this I do agree that
  34. you guys got some quite nice results out.
  35.
  36. <Paragraph 4>
  37. I do not agree that the LAN was quite as bad as you attest beforehand.
  38. We had our share of issues (some of which you mentioned) but a good
  39. portion of things worked sufficiently well. A portion of this can also
  40. be blamed on the hardware we had (we have no love for the 48 port allow
  41. switch anymore).
  42.
  43. <Paragraph 5>
  44. Of this I was somewhat aware, although I don't see how you can be more
  45. than 100% dedicated.
  46.
  47. <Paragraph 6-7>
  48. I'm not fully aware of how you and TJ/Readur interacted. I was aware
  49. that it was somewhat strained at times but I attributed the difficulties
  50. equally to both sides.
  51.
  52. <Paragraph 8>
  53. I was vaguely aware, not much made it to me that I recall.
  54.
  55. <Paragraph 9>
  56. I have heard this mentioned by both parties. While I do not condone
  57. stereotyping I do believe that knowing of your condition should allow
  58. for both sides of the communication to be aware af the differences in
  59. how you perceive things/interact with others and compensate for it. This
  60. is a strategy that I believe most people need to be aware of when
  61. dealing with others in general.
  62.
  63. <Paragraph 10>
  64. I was not properly aware of this. My guess is this probably went both
  65. ways and everyone involved in the discussion left in an unhappy state.
  66.
  67. <Paragraph 11>
  68. I can't really say much about this, as this was not something I was
  69. greatly aware of. All I can say is that there are a number of ways of
  70. documenting/communicating things and people deal with some differently
  71. to others, so possibly you or they may have had a difference of opinion
  72. on the most effective way to do this. The most I heard was that you had
  73. a tendency of wording things in a way that resulted in writing a lot of
  74. text to explain things more easily done in a small amount of text.
  75. Having not been involved in this I can't say much more.
  76.
  77. <Paragraph 12>
  78. I don't know the full scope of the channels you used to communicate with
  79. Ryan/TJ. I personally read everything posted but did not comment as it
  80. was not the domain I support SG in and nothing seemed to need my
  81. comment.
  82.
  83. <Paragraph 13>
  84. No response necessary/appropriate.
  85.
  86. <Paragraph 14>
  87. That is what you perceived of the situation but is actually not true.
  88. The admins took the suggestions of every party in mind in the reaching
  89. it's decision. While your suggestions in some ways were preferable, they
  90. were not possible to implement for a number of reasons and therefore we
  91. chose the ones that seemed most likely to succeed given our available
  92. knowledge. I would also like to point out that some of the information
  93. you provided was not correct either (at least according to other sources
  94. we found, maybe it was partly correct). The withdrawing of your support
  95. for the event is also a sticking point for many of the admins. We try to
  96. operate as a team and therefore take into account the
  97. knowledge/expertise of all members in our decisions and once a decision
  98. is reached we treat it as the best and give it our full support. We feel
  99. this is necessary in order to ensure the best outcomes possible and in
  100. order to remain a cohesive group. The withdrawal of support for an event
  101. by officer has otherwise been unheard of event and flies in the face of
  102. how we as a whole believe we should operate.
  103.
  104. <Paragraph 15>
  105. I do not recall our participation at AVCON going that badly. While we
  106. did get some complaints we also got a lot of compliments. I intend on
  107. working with AVCON to make things go even better in future. I do not
  108. recall us doing anything that would make our operations at the event
  109. "completely illegal". Yes, the internet did drop out a lot but when it
  110. worked was reasonably smooth (I had less issues signing in to steam than
  111. at a regular SG). I am not fully aware of all the issues but am aware
  112. that at least one was caused by a lanner in a way that you would have
  113. seen issues with as well (the network cable for the DHCP was unplugged
  114. and then put into the incorrect port, meaning that nobody could get DHCP
  115. since the backbone was set to drop all relevant packets from any port
  116. but that one). We did have low attendance, which can be attributed for a
  117. number of reasons including there being a number of competing events and
  118. people having competing plans for that weekend. I have heard there were
  119. also a number of rumours spread in order to try to lower our
  120. attendance/reputation but as I have not been presented with any evidence
  121. I am treating it as hearsay.
  122.
  123. <Paragraph 16>
  124. Some can (supposedly there were some reliability issues with the signal
  125. used for our internet, aforementioned DHCP issue), some I admit cannot.
  126. While most of the networking infrastructure was the same, the internet
  127. end was not so that is not entirely true.
  128.
  129. <Paragraph 17>
  130. That is not necessarily a correct inference. Even having the same
  131. hardware would not mean this as they had to set up appropriate software
  132. correctly which takes a lot of time and effort to get right. I am aware
  133. of how much time was devoted to the development of the software
  134. solutions used and of the testing involved. Might I point out that not
  135. all of the software you and Micolous developed worked correctly first
  136. time?
  137.
  138. <Paragraph 18>
  139. We did realise how dependant on you we had become. This was a
  140. double-edged sword as though we know you guys can do a good job, we are
  141. also now painfully aware of how you will choose to react when the admin
  142. team as a whole make a decision that you do not like. This does not sit
  143. well with a number of us. I would also like to think that I have in
  144. general acted in a way that does not imply I think of you as evil and
  145. have generally tried to be as friendly/understanding as possible.
  146.
  147. <Paragraph 19>
  148. I have not suspected you of lies, but have no evidence to support that
  149. idea in either way. I cannot recall any occurence where you did not show
  150. those qualities, but I do recall that there have been situations where
  151. your incorrect actions/mistakes could have been avoided which I'd rather
  152. not dwell on. You guys have done a great job of supporting us which is
  153. why we voted to give you the benefits we have on your departure from our
  154. organisation.
  155.
  156. <Paragraph 20>
  157. I cannot think of a situation where I have been involved in such things
  158. and for the most part believe that statement is untrue. There are
  159. examples where each of these has occurred but on the most part this is
  160. not how I see SG run.
  161.
  162. <Paragraph 21>
  163. I believe that a good number of us still listened to what you guys had
  164. said at the meeting. It was however impossible for us to act upon much
  165. of it immediately given the nature of the admin only meeting occurred
  166. afterwards.
  167.
  168. <Paragraph 22>
  169. I have not intentionally avoided talking to people on IRC but due to my
  170. work/lifestyle commitments I have not been able to be involved on the
  171. discussion there much. It can also be difficult to maintain interest in
  172. reading the conversation when some of the material is on topics I am not
  173. interested in (WoW, etc). As far as I'm aware, those channels to which
  174. you refer were not set up by our admins but rather by other members of
  175. the SG community.
  176.
  177. <Paragraph 23>
  178. There is a reason why we "sanitised" the documents - some of it was not
  179. relevant to your understanding of what occurred (in particular, we could
  180. filter out some data that would paint the entire document in an
  181. incorrect light) and some of it was not appropriate to be released
  182. outside of the committee. I am perfectly happy to discuss with you my
  183. thoughts on the matter if you would like.
  184.
  185. <Paragraph 24>
  186. I try not to show a double-standard as much as possible. I have on
  187. occasion been known to upset other admins by enforcing the rules equally
  188. on them. I am aware that I may not act 100% perfectly but I do try to
  189. and sometimes due to circumstances I may lose the self control that I
  190. should maintain, which is an unfortunate thing.
  191.
  192. <Paragraph 25>
  193. I have not seen such things myself. If you are referring to Narthollis
  194. then I would like to point out he is a life-time member which he paid
  195. for some time ago. I would also like to point out that you yourself have
  196. on numerous occasions been put through on a free ticket when the
  197. committee had not decided to grant this to you. Maybe you deserved it at
  198. the time, but no submission for such a treatment was put forward to the
  199. admin team for this to occur.
  200.
  201. <Paragraph 26>
  202. While I am aware that this has ocurred in the past and that I am guilty
  203. of it as well, in recent times I have made every effort to cause this to
  204. cease occurring. There is however nothing stopping people going to a
  205. nearby location offsite and doing so. I also do not check every location
  206. where this may occurr.
  207.
  208. <Paragraph 27>
  209. I have not been aware of this in recent times and have not ever done
  210. such a thing myself. I would not be happy with whoever may do this,
  211. admin or not.
  212.
  213. <Paragraph 28>
  214. We did not introduce them ourselves. We were directly approached by G4C
  215. for the right to speak at our event and told them to keep it as
  216. unpolitical as possible. A number of the admins are greatly opposed to
  217. appearing to have a political leaning, myself included.
  218.
  219. <Paragraph 29>
  220. That is not uncommon for a number of types of organisation. We feel that
  221. the majority of us have proved appropriate to remain as admins and we do
  222. have a procedure for ensuring that those who should not remain adins
  223. shall not. When we see the need to increase our base of admins, we
  224. choose people from the community who appear appropriate for the role and
  225. have proven that they are capable of filling it. There are a number of
  226. criteria used in regards to this that are not always obvious. This
  227. approach in general has worked reasonably well for us (I was acting in
  228. an admin-like role for at least a year before I became one and was
  229. chosen specifically because of that).
  230.
  231. <Paragraph 30>
  232. Most of this seems to be just pointless insults based on
  233. misunderstandings/generalisations.
  234.
  235. <Paragraph 31>
  236. I am not saying that you are the cause of all of our problems and most
  237. of the admins would agree with that sentiment. There is however a
  238. distinct difference in how interactions seem to occurr between
  239. yourselves and the admins and how most of us in general interact which
  240. causes a number of unfortunate issues. There are also a few idealogical
  241. differences between some of us and yourselves that are proving difficult
  242. difficult to surmount. We therefore decided that it would likely be in
  243. our better interest as a whole to not continue the situation preceeding
  244. our current one. The reason the meetings to discuss your membership in
  245. our organisation seemed secretive or conspired was because we believed
  246. that it would be more appropriate to discuss these things without
  247. yourselves present. The intention was that we would fully document our
  248. reasonings and decisions then give you the ability to respond. This
  249. intention was not able to be followed correctly as your resignation
  250. occurred during the course of the meeting, resulting in us needing to
  251. take a different course of action.
  252.
  253. <Paragraph 32>
  254. That is your choice.
  255.
  256.
  257. I would like to think that I have done a reasonably good job acting
  258. morally and ethically in my participation with SG and the running
  259. organisation. I regret that the situation has come to this but through
  260. my actions/inactions and those of others the situation has panned out in
  261. a less than optimal manner. While I may not do a good job of showing it,
  262. I am deeply thankful for the help you and Micolous have provided to our
  263. organisation, as I am to all who willingly give their time to help us
  264. out. I had hoped the situation could result in the seperation of
  265. yoursleves from our organisation in an amicable manner.
  266.
  267. I wish you well in your endeavors, excepting those that are against
  268. myself or SG.
  269.
  270. Regards
  271. Aaron Dan Frishling (jihad jesus)
