  1. Saying goodbye to Stablehost and thinking about moving to Hawk Host
  2. I have been a client of Stablehost for 3 years, and I must admit that everything had run great until the month of July of 2017, where they did a server update and some statistics and functions of the cpanel were deactivated by magic,

  16. I realized 6 months later, when I wanted to consult the statistics to make reports and I did not find anything. This problem is solved and the statistics were reactivated with a simple ticket. After this change, I also started to have problems with the mail, a week we sent an average of 20 to 30 emails in total, of those 30, at least 10 went to the SPAM folder of our contacts.
  17.
  18. At the beginning of 2018, my editors had commented to me that the load of the page had become very bad for some time, some maintenance tasks were carried out and there was a minimum improvement in the load of the web, after this we continue working in creating quality content to keep growing.
  19.
  20. In the month of June we made a report of results and for the first time in 4 years that takes the site online, we obtained a fall in Google searches of 35%, when we normally had an increase of 15% or 20% each semester, this is where my concern increases, since I'm almost sure that the loading speed is affecting my SEO.
  21.
  22. Practically the whole month of July I spent my time investigating until sadly I discovered that I am not the only one with problems with SH. Before they say that my use of resources may be the one that is affecting my site, I must tell you that I have been monitoring it for the last 30 days and most of the time CPU usage remains below 20% with maximum peaks 60% during peak hours.
  23.
  24. Fortunately for me, on August 5 my contract with them ends and I do not intend to renew it, that is why today I come to WHT in search of their comments about the shared plans of Hawk Host, most of my audience is Latin American and doing a simple ping test to the servers in Texas of HH, I have noticed that there is a positive difference of 30ms compared with the servers of SH in Phoenix, however, I would like to know your experience with this provider and that other providers could recommend me, My site weighs about 5GB and has an average of 2200 to 3800 unique visitors per day.
  25.
  26. - Sorry for how long my post has been and my bad English.
  27.
  28. So, your account will expire on August 5 with them? Make sure they will allow you to cancel since it is less than a week and most provider allows at least 7 days before you are allowed to cancel it.
  29.
  30. Make sure to backup your data too.
  31.
  32. StableHost was sold recently... Another good host fell after a sale...
  33.
  34. Correct below.
  35.
  36. 37. Thanks for your review and sad to hear that this is your experience over the last year. I would like to get more deeply into this specific example and slowness over the last year, so I would like to ask if you can send me a PM with your website hosted with us so I can check this out my self and see what and why this happens. To prevent and help any future clients that might experience the same issues.

  41. Well, the client, in this case, is saying that the problems started in July 2017, long before StableHost were sold. So this has nothing to do with the fact that StableHost has been sold.

  44. I assume old was bad then why new management couldn't solved the issue.

  49. Is this a thing with shared providers? I know with dedicate servers and the like it was common.

  52. My bad, I misread it as July 2018.
  53.
  54. Is this a thing with shared providers? I know with dedicate servers and the like it was common.
  55. I think most shared providers let you cancel whenever you want as there's no real action required on their end as part of the cancellation - they do not need to repurpose or resell the physical server as is the case with dedicated server cancellations
  56.
  57. Add pre-cancellation request with "Cancel at end of due date". It will avoid you to pay invoice or cancel service before due date. Add warning in cancellation request that you have data on server.

  60. Pretty sure there is. If you do not inform your host of your intention to cancel, your host will still store your data for x number of days before destroying it.
  61.
  62. Thank you all for your kind answers and tips for a smooth cancellation, 3 years ago when i arrived here looking for a reliable hosting server, i did not even have to post to ask for suggestions, because the number of positive reviews that StableHost had.
  63.
  64. However, everything seems to indicate that there have been internal changes that disadvantage their current users, starting with an apparent overselling of shared hosting. Since May 2018 I received 1 or 2 emails a month with a 70% discount for life on the shared hosting, and this may be slowing down some of the servers, this is just my guess and I'm not assuring anything . But if you think about it, it makes a bit of sense.
  65.
  66. Speaking of my search for a new hosting, i have not yet made a decision and i am reaching the limit of my current plan, so i ask again, what are your experiences with Hawk Host?
  67.
  68. Kind regards.

  71. Yes, that's correct, and the emails have been about our new servers in our Swedish Datacenter where there is no interfering with the other servers in our other locations.

  74. It is true, checking my emails I have noticed that some are only for the Stockholm server, but there are also some 60% and 70% for your server in Phoenix.
  75.
  76. Even, there is one of 70% that is currently active, I attach the screenshot.

  80. I'm sorry that my post seems a way to speak badly about your company, I do not usually take the time to leave a bad comment, however, something is not right, and as in the past I and other people recommend StableHost to our friends, nowadays things are not working as they should and faults and bad practices within a company must be exposed so they can be corrected.

  89. Correct, some of them has been to Phoenix, that is correct, but I can assure you we are pushing up new servers to handle all the orders and not just pushing them into old once's. As you mentioned, the problems started long ago and not in the last two months.
  90.
  91. It's okay to leave a bad review, and we can only learn more from the feedback you are giving so I'm not taking it in a wrong way, instead of that we need to check why you are experiencing high load times while others are not.
  92.
  93. Hawkhost is a great company with excellent uptime but most importantly great support !!! . I had only a shared plan with them and had only minor issues (mainly questions) that have been resolved fastly.
  94. Currently i am not a customer of theirs because they do not offer a reseller plan in Amsterdam area. At the moment i have a reseller plan with Stablehost and to be honest did not have any major issues.
  95. I would rate Hawkhost at 10 and stablehost 8 from my personal experience
  96.
  97. Note:Hawkhost had also their downtime problems, every provider will have their downtime issues
  98.
  99. Is this a thing with shared providers? I know with dedicate servers and the like it was common.
  100. I don't think it's too common -- perhaps with the larger companies? We have an almost inverse policy -- if you don't cancel beyond your due date you won't be suspended immediately and can cancel even if you're past due.

  103. Yeah most providers I've looked into allow a 3 to 14 day grace period.
  104.

  106.
  107. Kind regards.
  108. I was with Hawkhost last year and was happy, i only left because they did not offer dedicated servers. So if you choose to go with them i think you will be alright. Support was great and never had any issues with their servers. If you need another host to look at try looking at HostXNow. I am with them now and loving it.
  109.
  110. Hope this helps you.
  111.
  112. Happy New Year people and sorry for reopening this old thread, but I prefer to do it instead spamming creating another thread.
  113.
  114. I'm in the same situation as the OP, but in my case the hosting expires in June 2019, but i'm not able to communicate with their support anymore. I stayed few days ago like half an hour on their chat in order to fix an issue on my account, being unable to use multiPHP. The support guy, called Rizwan (I miss the USA support ) was unable to understand me. I had to explain him in a loop like 15 times the issue and he simply doesn't understand english. Also, he was unable to fix the issue, other than fixing web 1 and breaking the web 2 and then fix web 2 and breaking the web 1. Finally he told me "it's impossible to fix it" (thing I knew and that's why I asked them for support) and that "he had to go since he finish the shift" (WTF).
  115.
  116. So, I will move soon. I was 8 years old client and never had downtime and issues, but I cannot accept such support. I have nothing with indian guys, but WHY THE HELL YOU PUT A USELESS GUY IN THE SUPPORT. And in the support chat I see only indian people in support team.
  117.
  118. This is a 1% of the whole conversation:

  124. In the last image he mentions they use the php selector. Are you trying to select php via that or via another option? If another option, try the php selector that is provided by cloudlinux which would be separate from the multiphp options.

  127. I tried that thousands of times and it's not working, in facts that's why I contacted them. I'm getting Error 500 when I change the php version through selector and I have to delete the automatically created .htaccess from the domain folder, after which the php version is automatically switched to the previous version. So no way to use multiple php version and they don't give me a solution. The conversation was like:
  128.
  129. Me: - Hello, I have a problem with the PHP Selector.
  130. Support: -Hello, what's your problem?
  131. Me: - I cannot set PHP 5.6 though PHP Selector
  132. Support: Did you tried PHP Selector?
  133. Me: Yes, it's not working.
  134. Support: What exactly isn't working?
  135.
  136. ....and so on. They are like damn bots. That's why I wrote a line in UPPERCASE, I got frustrated after over 15 minutes of nonsense support.
  137.
  138.
  139. Many years ago I remember the Phoenix support opened a Tier 3 support ticket for a thing similar and they fixed it and other year they even switched me to a new server when I started to have huge I/O and slow loading websites. This time they were more worried to go home instead helping.

  142. Hi @zihost what platform are you using? if WordPress what plugins are you using?
  143. 2. have you done a theme/code review recently?
  144.

  158. Have you edited .htaccess or PHP.INI using MultiPHP INI editor in cPanel? Most probably, This should have caused the issue. We have seen numerous clients using this plugin and getting stuck when they change versions. If you have used this, Try to switch your PHP version using MultiPHP manager interface. That might help you.
  159.
  160. Other possible cause for 500 error might be that you haven't enabled required PHP extensions. Make sure that you have enabled all extensions that are activated in your current version and then change.
  161.
  162. I'm getting Error 500 when I change the php version through selector [...]
  163. Okay, lets focus on this behavior then. Change the php version so that it causes that 500 error. Now check the error log for the site. Does it give any error entries for anything in the .htaccess file? If not, the issue is likely within the script it self -- especially if you see a blank page when visiting the site. PHP's display errors is likely disabled, so in .user.ini put in "display_errors=on" and wait a few minutes for PHP to reload the file. Then try the site and it should display a fatal error.
  164.
  165. Once you have the actual error, post it back (removing any users and other such info) if you need help on figuring out the issue.
  166.
  167. I would bet there is either some code not liking the new version or an extension that is in 5.6 isn't in the new version.
  168.
  169. If it's WordPress enable 'wp_debug' in the wp-config.php as well. Make sure to view the source of the page if you get a blank page - because sometimes the errors show up in such a way that they aren't rendered by the browser - such as when there's an issue with the theme.
  170.
  171. That's impossible guys!
  172.
  173. I assure you I tried everything and it's not module (because would have failed with php 7.2 as main), neither plugins issue.
  174.
  175. Since they touched the server I have this issue:
  176.
  177. - if I set PHP 7.2 as main everything is working great. Then, if I open Multiphp and I set a website on PHP 5.6, the htaccess will looks like this:
  178.
  179. PHP Code:
  180. # BEGIN cPanel-generated php ini directives, do not edit
  181. # Manual editing of this file may result in unexpected behavior.
  182. # To make changes to this file, use the cPanel MultiPHP INI Editor (Home >> Software >> MultiPHP INI Editor)
  183. # For more information, read our documentation (https://go.cpanel.net/EA4ModifyINI)
  184. <IfModule php5_module>
  185. php_flag display_errors On
  186. php_value max_execution_time 60
  187. php_value max_input_time 120
  188. php_value max_input_vars 1000
  189. php_value memory_limit 256M
  190. php_value post_max_size 64M
  191. php_value session.gc_maxlifetime 1440
  192. php_value session.save_path "/tmp"
  193. php_value upload_max_filesize 64M
  194. php_flag zlib.output_compression On
  195. </IfModule>
  196. # END cPanel-generated php ini directives, do not edit
  197.
  198. # php -- BEGIN cPanel-generated handler, do not edit
  199. # This domain inherits the “PHP” package.
  200. # php -- END cPanel-generated handler, do not edit
  201.
  202. Ok, now I open the website and I check phpinfo and I get this:
  203. PHP Version 7.2.13
  204. System Linux ams23.stablehost.com 2.6.32-954.3.5.lve1.4.58.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Oct 19 05:28:14 EDT 2018 x86_64
  205. Build Date Dec 7 2018 04:04:35
  206.
  207. So it's ignores me.
  208.
  209. Well...now I'm switching the global php to 5.6 on the whole account.
  210. Checking the phpinfo I see I have PHP 5.6. Now I'm going to multiPHP and I set a website on PHP 7.2, then I'm opening the website an boom:
  211.
  212. https://i.ibb.co/rtbwp2S/403.png
  213.
  214. 403 wouldn't be a PHP error/issue.
  215.
  216. 403 wouldn't be a PHP error/issue.
  217. I know mate, I have a dedicated server with my clients on it and I pretty know how to debug and fix issues. It's clear that there is a permission issue with the owner/group or something like that, since there is no issues with the permissions and it's working great only with PHP7.2 as main.
  218.
  219. Why when I set main php as 7.2 I cannot switch through MultiPHP to 5.6? As a simple user I'm unable to fix this.
  220.
  221. I miss a lot Phoenix support.
  222.
  223. You should be able to use MultiPHP to choose another version - but it just modifies the .htaccess file in the folder to use that specific version. You can do the same thing in the .htaccess file yourself even.
  224.
  225. Hi there it is worth noting support for 5.6 has been retired as of dec 31 so unless absolutely required for cern applications i would stick with 7.2
  226.
  227. Months later, same situation. Stablehost is a big problem, and a bad joke if compared with what we used to have, Shame.
  228. Any luck @zihost with Hawk Host or any other? TIA
