- Eerie quiet often filled the air in this side of the facility, so the sound of footsteps, keys, and a door opening and closing was enough to shake the inmates out of sleep. A few of them stalked toward the doors of their cells, peering through the small openings, watching with what little light they had.
- /New guy./
- /What's he in for?/
- /How long has he got?/
- /How are they gonna kill him?/
- /Chair./
- /Injection./
- /Squad./
- Eli knew that there were pairs and pairs of eyes on him as he escorted the newest addition to the Condemned to his cell. He'd done the same for a lot of the men in here -- murderers, terrorists, traitors, rapists -- so he knew well not to judge a book by its cover. Looks often never indicated anything.
- But still, he wondered. How could a boy like this one possibly kill someone? Did he really encase a diplomat in concrete and throw him in the sea?
- And why was this motherfucker smiling?
- Once they reached the new inmate's assigned cell, Eli grabbed the back of the boy's uniform and shoved him inside. A small swell of satisfaction crept up to him while he watched the fall toward the cold floor of the dark room. The cocky son of a bitch was proud of what he did? Fucker did deserve to be here.
- "Hell is too good a place for you," Eli hissed. "Congratulations on the death sentence, Kim Yukwon. Have a horrible evening."
- Right when he turned around, a small voice spoke from the darkness. "You sound like you've been there, Officer," it said. "Did they kick you out?"
- At that, Eli turned toward the boy, narrowed his eyes and sent a clenched fist toward Yukwon's jaw.
