  38. 'Nerve' is about an online dare game, in which people give participants anonymous dares for money. The participants compete with each other to win the grand prize as the dares get tougher. Things get worse when the tasks get increasingly dangerous and lives are at stake.
  39. Venus is a hard-working high school senior, focused, with drive and a pending scholarship at CalArts, the esteemed art school in California, that would help her spread her wings and leave Staten Island, her homeplace. Diffident enough and constantly in the shadow of her popular friend Sydney, Venus will be enticed by the notoriously hardcore reality online game "Nerve", and accept to become, for once in her life, a "player" instead of a mere "watcher". However, Venus is definitely not an adrenaline junkie, so by leaving her comfort zone, she will be gradually lured into an ongoing wave of incrementally difficult assignments, all contrived by the "watchers'" hungry appetite for thrills and excitement. When Venus accepts to kiss Ian, a random guy who turns out to be another "Nerve" player, the "watchers" will not be able to get enough of the couple, demanding to team up against an all-night, white-knuckle truth or dare adventure all over town. Inevitably, as the game insidiously claims Vee's personal life and friends, she will have to face one relentless dilemma: how far is she willing to go to win back her life?
  40. While I was sitting in the theater watching Nerve, all I could think about were things that I thought could have improved the movie going experience. I don't particularly see this film as bad, in fact I believe that it is above average, the only thing is, is that I thought with the material the filmmakers were going for it had the chance to be something really special and entirely unique. However this is no where near being a bad film, in fact I recommend that you go see it because it is good and it does have interesting ideas to offer, even if they are just plainly ideas that are never explored within their fullest capacity. The social commentary about the way we use social media and where we are headed was quite engaging and entertaining. There were just some things that I thought could have helped the film stand out and be GREAT instead of just good.
  41. I had heard lots of buzz about this film and I have now see it and I feel like on paper this would be a great idea but the film ends up being a big disappointment. The premise of the film sees a high school student come across an online game of truth or dare, without the truth. Emma Roberts plays V and she does an alright job in this film, she gives her best to the role it is just her character isn't that interesting. I found myself not really caring about her character that much which is disappointing. Dave Franco plays another player of this game and he does a good job in the role, he isn't as funny in this role as much as he has in other roles. He sold his daredevil persona well and I bought his character for this film. Unfortunately, all the other characters in this film are bland and just very cliché that you just won't care about them or the situations they are put in. The story of the film has some interesting dares in it as you see these two people work there way through the challenges, I can't deny that it is fast paced and interesting to watch. However, I didn't buy the relationship between Roberts and Franco and I felt like it was pretty forced and unconvincing. Also the third act takes a big change from the rest of the film and it is just not interesting really at all which really hurts the film. The script doesn't have any really cheesy or bad dialogue it is just so forgettable that I don't really remember one bit from the film's script. The style of the film has some too stunts and dares, buy I don't feel like it goes extreme enough for it to be realistic which is a shame for this film, maybe it could have done with a higher age rating. Overall I didn't care for nerve and I don't really think it is worth seeing at all.
  42. Blisteringly cool one moment and ridiculously silly the next (much like its high school heroine), this punchy and propulsive late summer surprise is able to capture the way we live now because it displays such a vivid understanding of the reasons why we live that way.
