BACKGROUND :
— not much is known about hwang jiwoo’s childhood except that he lived overseas in nevada with his parents. jiwoo’s life of crime started after the misfortune that was his parents’ marital problems — gambling and alcohol. his father lost the family’s life savings in a casino, getting arrested when he assaulted a security guard with a broken bottle. this left jiwoo’s mother and himself to eventually lose their apartment when they couldn’t afford it anymore. over the years she developed a drinking problem and struggled to keep a job as jiwoo tried to finish high school. but when his mother was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning, he had enough.

jiwoo resorted to any means of acquiring money, whether it was through petty theft or drug dealing, just so he could pay the hospital bills. he usually tried to avoid harming anyone and getting caught by the cops, because he needed to be there for his mother in hard times like this. in his senior year, he was recruited into a gang with a classmate and it kept getting downhill from there. it reached it’s peak as jiwoo was carrying out a robbery at a gas station when he fatally shot a child, resulting in him getting charged with murder for the first time.

— he is very odd to say the least. he always seems disinterested in his surroundings when in reality he’s making observations, whether it’s about a person or the current situation. jiwoo likes to express himself through his actions rather than words because he’s an introvert. he has no filter on his words so he can be harsh or insensitive to others. jiwoo holds a grudge and stays bitter, even when years have passed and he should be over it. but he can be vulnerable on some days because he thinks about the past for too long and misses his old life, though he’ll never let anyone see him cry.
