- Date: Saturday, May 25, 2019
- Location: Frank Erwin Center
- 8 am: degrees in Biochemistry, Biology, Environmental Science,
- Marine Science, Medical Laboratory Science, and Neuroscience
- Noon: degrees in Astronomy, Chemistry, Computer Science,
- Mathematics, and Physics
- 3:30 pm: degrees in Human Development and Family Sciences, Human
- Ecology, Nutrition, Public Health, and Textiles and Apparel
- Note: If you are earning more than one Natural Sciences degree, both
- degrees will be announced at the ceremony you attend.
- Ceremony attendance is optional: You are not required to attend the
- ceremony. You do not need to inform us whether you will attend. If
- you attend, you and your guests are expected to stay until the
- ceremony ends. Ceremonies are typically 2 to 2.5 hours long.
- Arrival time: Candidates are asked to enter at the Red River
- entrance to the Erwin Center (box office area). Guests enter at the
- north and south ends of the Erwin Center. Doors for candidates and
- guests will be open beginning 1 hour prior to the start of the
- ceremony. Candidates should arrive no later than 40 minutes prior to
- the ceremony in order to have sufficient time to pick up their stage
- cards, line up backstage, and make last minute adjustments to caps
- and gowns.
- Parking and mobility impairments: With the exception of disabled
- parking spaces marked o?=At All Times,o?= all university parking
- garages and most surface lots are available free of charge during
- commencement. The Trinity Garage is the closest parking garage to the
- Erwin Center. Handicap parking spaces are available but limited.
- Guests with mobility impairments may be dropped off at the Red River
- entrance, or in Lot 118 (see attached map). Erwin Center personnel
- will be on hand at the Erwin Center doors to assist mobility impaired
- guests to accessible seats. See the attached map for a visual display
- of parking options.
- Tickets: No tickets are required for either graduation candidates or
- guests. There is no limit to the number of guests that may attend per
- candidate. There will be no capacity problem regardless of how many
- guests you invite.
- Regalia and Invitations: Academic regalia are required for all
- candidates participating in commencement ceremonies. You may purchase
- them from the University Co-op. The tassel and stole color for
- Natural Sciences is Yellow Gold. The deadline to order Bacheloro?=s
- regalia is May 13th: https://www.universitycoop.com/graduation
- Security procedures: Safety procedures will be in place for all
- commencement ceremonies and all commencement venues across the
- university. Backpacks, tote bags or any bags larger than 12 inches in
- any dimension will not be allowed into the Erwin Center. In addition,
- all other bags, including purses, camera cases and diaper bags will
- be searched by security officers before visitors are permitted to
- enter the Erwin Center. Please plan accordingly. Do not bring any
- packages that cannot be opened or inspected. Please inform your
- family and friends of these security procedures.
- Candidate personal Items: There is no storage area for personal
- items, and staff members cannot watch your belongings. Do not bring
- anything with you that you do not want to carry across the stage. We
- suggest wearing clothing with pockets large enough to hold your keys
- and cell phone under your gown.
- What will be announced during the ceremony: As participants walk
- across the stage, the college will announce first and last names,
- multiple degrees from Natural Sciences, preliminary university
- honors, preliminary departmental honors, and selected deano?=s
- honored graduates. To minimize the length of the ceremony,
- certificates, minors, and degrees earned from other colleges are not
- announced.
- Preliminary university honors: University honors will be announced
- according to the grade point average ranges established for the May
- 2018 graduating class and according to your current official grade
- point average (does not include your spring grades). This
- announcement is tentative and your grade point average and the honors
- ranges will change after all grades are reported. The honors ranges
- for the purposes of announcements are:
- Highest Honors: 3.9402 - 4.000
- High Honors: 3.8506 - 3.9401
- Honors: 3.7401 - 3.8505
