Her family has always been good enough for her; parents divorced on good terms and her father got full custody, her mother getting visitation rights. She was born in Encino, California but moved to Kobe, Japan while she was an infant. Asami's biggest dream has always been to become an idol and her main focus was in singing, but she was crushed when she was told at her first open audition that her singing could never be as good as her two older idol siblings' and modeling would suit her better. She cried about it for a full month before getting frustrated at her lack of talent and then set herself up so she could attend the next open audition to show those judges who was boss, although she was secretly nervous. Her dad helped out by calling up one of his former members to help his daughter. Eventually Asami could rap without stumbling over her words as usual over the course of 11 months and listened to more american artists so she could familiarize with English again. She walked into the audition with confidence and did a freestyle with a beat she produced with her dad. She didn't expect SM Entertainment to contact her a month later and tell her they wanted her to sign with them. She promised herself that day that she would do her best and nothing less.
