171.
Compose a business using IBM-as-a-Service: [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Marketplace and [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword]",
  172.
IBM is leveraging the API economy and opening itself up as-a-service. The [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Marketplace provides customers with a location from which they can purchase IBM services, and also acquire 3rd party services. The marketplace is focused on bringing together the Business, Developers, and IT. IBM is also providing easier access to their GBS professionals through the marketplace. SOWs and extensive contracts are removed, allowing business value to be achieved faster, and with fewer applied restrictions. IBM’s [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword] Platform-as-a-Service provides developers with a rich set of IBM components that can be assembled into new applications. IBM is also providing advanced Enterprise 2.0 services to help with the management of services on, and off-premise. [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword] beta is IBM’s push into a development platform in the Cloud. It contains approximately 100 different services that can be composed into applications and solutions. Some of the services IBM is offering include: Integration, Rules, RapidApps, BlueInsight (Big Data Analytics), and Worklight. In the future we can expect to see Watson cognitive computing services become part of this new service mix. IBM is going beyond just offering the platform, they are building physical [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword] Garages. The first is opening in San Francisco’s Galvanize community. The garage is providing a collaborative environment in which application development will use [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword] in highly disciplined agile processes that give developers maximum opportunities for creativity and success as they turn new ideas into products. An example of a cool innovation that likely came out of a garage, perhaps an alpha [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword] Garage, is the connected car that was at the show. At Impact 2014 a RallyFighter car built by Local Motors was turned into a connected car. The car takes advantage of MQTT (lightweight messaging protocol), the Internet of Things, SmartCloud, Node-RED, [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword] Cloud Foundry, Big Data Streams, Hadoop, and [Keyword]Cloudant[/Keyword] to provide connection between mobile devices and the car. For more information about the car, check out the blog post and videos of how it was built, on the Local Motors web site. The car is a good example of how IBM technology came together, into a physical application, fully mobile enabled (it’s a car!), in less than 2 months. Exposing IBM as a service, means IBM has to come together. It was evident at this year’s Impact that the Software Group, Systems Group, Global Business and Technology Services are working with each other to deliver value to IBM customers. The value proposition IBM can deliver to customers is that they have it all: from hardware, to software, to business services. Exposing all of it as a service, whether that is on [Keyword]SoftLayer[/Keyword], in their Marketplace, or on [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword], is delivering value faster and better than they used to. This integrated approach improves the opportunities for value, instead of when each group worked in more isolated environments to reach their own select objectives. IBM stated that the quick wins they are hoping to provide their customers with are in the 3 – 6 month time frame. No more 12-24 month projects before you get value. If it takes more than 3 – 6 months to deliver a new capability in today’s economy, the opportunity is lost. I will admit that blue runs through my blood. I was an IBMer for 10 years, and I enjoyed my time with Global Business Services. I also saw the “division” across the lines of business, so I am thrilled to see how IBM is working together better and smarter for the benefit of their customers. I was there when former CEO Sam Palmisano launched the eBusiness on Demand “journey”. Even though IBM launched it, the entire industry has been on that journey, and I believe the “on-demand” is here, and now; through implementation of Cloud, Mobile, the Internet of Things, and the digital economy. I also think we are still on the journey, and time will tell where we will go through the increased availability of as-a-Service offerings, the drive for more information, innovation, and the needs of the now generation. 297.
Racemi Automates Migrations To [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Services Customers can begin migrations to IBM SoftLayer’s cloud from competing services immediately ATLANTA, September 16, 2013 – Racemi, the leading provider of automated server migration software that streamlines the process of migrating workloads to public, private, and hybrid clouds, today announced global support for IBM public cloud offerings, providing clients an automated migration path to their [Keyword]IBM cloud[/Keyword] of choice, at no charge for a limited time. Racemi’s Cloud Path software as a service (SaaS) enables IBM customers to migrate server workloads to IBM’s [Keyword]SoftLayer[/Keyword] cloud services at no charge (see terms and conditions). “Working closely with IBM, we are offering customers free migrations to IBM SoftLayer’s public cloud services,” said James Strayer, vice president of product management, Racemi. “This ensures there a fast, easy way to move existing workloads to IBM’s cloud computing platforms.” Today, clients in a variety of industries ranging from governments, banks, retailers are using IBM’s cloud capabilities to drive innovation and growth. More and more clients are turning to IBM [Keyword]Softlayer[/Keyword] cloud offerings as they look to adopt cloud capabilities built on an open, secure comprehensive platform giving them the option to scale as the need for service grows. [Keyword]SoftLayer[/Keyword] delivers Infrasturcture-as-a-Service to 21,000 clients across all industries. Details about this offer and the SaaS migration service for [Keyword]IBM cloud[/Keyword] customers can be accessed at www.racemi.com/[Keyword]ibm. Cloud[/Keyword] Path software-as-a-service (SaaS) is a self-service portal that automates the migration of existing Windows and Linux servers to public cloud services. There is no infrastructure to deploy or maintain on the customer’s site and key features such as Live Capture ensure there is no server downtime. All customer data is secured and compressed using AES/RSA SSL encryption over firewall- friendly, fault tolerant outbound HTTPS connections to provide maximum protection and reliability. “This new migration service will expedite IBM clients’ ‘on-ramp’ to the enterprise cloud,” said Kit Linton, director of Cloud Infrastructure Offerings. “As more clients demand enterprise cloud capabilities, they are looking to IBM to deliver the security, privacy and reliability of open, private clouds with the economy and speed of a public cloud through [Keyword]IBM cloud[/Keyword].” Racemi’s server imaging technology quickly clones server workloads between dissimilar physical, virtual or private cloud platforms, reducing the migration process from days to minutes. This results in an average labor savings of over $800 per server versus a manual migration. The Racemi SaaS captures the entire server stack—including operating system, applications, and configuration—and automatically converts it to run on the new cloud platform by applying the necessary tools and drivers during the migration process. This ensures existing workloads are migrated in their time-tested configuration, resulting in better reliability and supportability. IBM has invested $6 billion in more than a dozen cloud acquisitions since 2007, including, most recently, [Keyword]SoftLayer[/Keyword] to extend IBM’s public cloud capabilities and help clients with an easy on-ramp to the enterprise cloud. About Racemi Racemi, the moving company for the cloud, has been named a “Cool Vendor” and has hundreds of customers, users, and partners around the globe. The company builds server provisioning and cloud migration technology that allows businesses to quickly migrate their existing physical and virtual servers between dissimilar physical, virtual, and cloud platforms and across geographies. For CSPs (cloud service providers), MSPs (managed service providers), and hosting providers, Racemi is the easiest, most reliable method for onboarding customers to their public, private, or hybrid cloud offering. Racemi also enables customers and partners to automate private data center provisioning by leveraging its market-leading server imaging technology to rapidly provision physical, virtual or private cloud servers in any automated use case. Image courtesy of the Creative Commons IBM has opened its first data center built with a chunk of its $1.2bn investment - announced earlier this year – in Hong Kong. The [Keyword]SoftLayer[/Keyword] facility is the first facility out of 15 proposed to be built to meet growing customer demand for cloud-based IT services. [Keyword]SoftLayer[/Keyword] was acquired by IBM last July and is now the foundation for IBM’s cloud portfolio. IBM Watson will be available in the Hong Kong facility making it only one of three facilities to provide the business intelligence engine- the other facilities to provide Watson are in London and Dallas. IBM’s [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword] platform-as-a-service on [Keyword]Softlayer[/Keyword] will also be available from the Hong Kong site. [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword] is an implementation of IBM’s Open Cloud Architecture, leveraging Cloud Foundry to enable developers to rapidly build, deploy, and manage their cloud applications, while tapping a growing ecosystem of available services and runtime frameworks. IBM said it will follow flexible pricing schemes as it deploys [Keyword]BlueMix[/Keyword], allowing customers to consume it by the hour, by the month, or by the seat. [Keyword]SoftLayer[/Keyword] provide on-demand cloud infrastructure that includes bare metal and virtual servers, storage and networking all on a single platform, with full customer access and control. The enterprise-grade components will give users the ability to create public, private and hybrid clouds capable of supporting demanding applications and workloads. SoftLayer’s Hong Kong facility will have the capacity for more than 15,000 physical servers and the trademark [Keyword]SoftLayer[/Keyword] network of networks architecture. 455.
Watson Plus [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Services: Siri or Cortana on Steroids A cloud-based real time advanced decision engine could be a major game changer in the enterprise. By Rob Enderle Jan 22 2014 < http://www.datamation.com/applications/watson-plus-[Keyword]ibm-cloud[/Keyword]-services-siri-or-cortana-on-steroids.html > That doesn’t exactly create a very attractive mental image but over the last couple weeks IBM has announced they will be doubling their [Keyword]SoftLayer[/Keyword] based capacity and increasing the investment in Watson massively. While the two events currently aren’t connected it isn’t hard to imagine a future where they would be, as IBM moves ever more aggressively to transform itself into a firm better aligned with the cloud and AI future. Let’s talk about that future this week. Cloud Services The eventual objective of most Cloud Services is to provide a consistent set of applications and data to an ever wider spectrum of client devices and system. In effect this is the latest effort to turn computing into more of a utility like electricity. Something you can depend on to be available (always there), reliable (trustworthy), and dependable (it doesn’t break on you when you most need it). This effort started with communications, moved to storage, and now includes hosted applications. Services like OnLive have showcased that you can even do gaming off of these services, now showcasing just how robust they have become. Decision Engines to AI The most powerful systems emerging in the market are decision engines, which generally have to run in the cloud. Siri is the one that is the best known, though I think she may become eclipsed by Cortana when Microsoft releases their product. (Cortina was the AI in Halo, one of the most successful game franchises in Game Console history). But decision engines in this class are relatively stupid, largely living off of whatever search engine they are tied to with a natural language interface. In short they aren’t really any better than just searching on a term, they just swap your fingers and keyboard for a voice interface. Watson is a far more advanced decision engine, which means its results should be far more accurate. Just as with Google or Bing you could layer on a Siri or Cortana (I vote Cortina because, well, never mind) voice interface to make it sound more human – but the result would be something far more compelling. You could actually enter into a dialog with the system more effectively to better define your question, and the answer would take into account far more data points. For instance, you could actually get a diagnosis for a complex illness over the phone even if you weren’t a doctor. Or more important for many of us, figure out what that ping/pong/sprong/clunk sound was coming from your car (I’m guessing an opportunity to put your mechanic’s kid through college). The answers would be more useful as well, for instance using the car example, you’d be more likely to get “statistically speaking you should sell the car for scratch and buy another in better shape.” That answer would have saved me thousands over the last few years. The Problems There are several problems that will need to be overcome once Cloud Watson becomes available. People who are perceived to be right more often advance more quickly, and women, who already look things up more often than men do, should be the biggest beneficiaries of this change. If guys didn’t feel threatened before, they will once Watson goes to the cloud, suggesting that either Watson likely should get a name/sex change to better reflect the gender he’ll most benefit. That platform being based on the latest IBM POWER7 and POWER7+ processor-based servers running Linux, AIX and IBM i operating systems…very big deal indeed! Big Blue has just announced the [Keyword]IBM Power[/Keyword] Development Platform (PDP) which will allow no-charge access, via cloud, to Power Systems servers for building, porting and testing applications. The thought behind it is that Linux developers will be especially interested because most of them need more powerful, more modern servers that can handle the new wave of open, collaborative apps built for Big Data, mobile and social business computing. The PDP offers users access to the same Power platform that, together with Linux, powers IBM’s Watson and includes a new Linux porting image with IBM DB2 10.x, IBM WebSphere 8.5.5, and the latest Linux development tools for Power. "The new era of computing upon us requires more from technology infrastructure -- faster insights, greater efficiency, tighter collaboration," said Doug Balog, General Manager of [Keyword]IBM Power[/Keyword] Systems. "Now more than ever we're seeing a lot of new, exciting things being done on the Power platform. Our new development cloud will serve as a springboard for innovation from a talented development community. Providing cloud access to Power accelerates the development of applications that deliver even greater business value to our clients." The Power Development Platform evolved from IBM’s Virtual Loaner Program which allowed limited access to Power Systems technology. After feedback, program especially from the Linux community, IBM dramatically overhauled that program including substantially increased capacity, additional Linux development tools, improved reservation navigation and deeper social media integration to provide users with more news and information. You can access the cloud-based Power Development Platform through IBM's PartnerWorld program at www.ibm.com/partnerworld/pdp. 578.
Updated: Five steps to move your SAP application to [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword]",
  579.
Since my first blog post a few months ago, IBM updated the [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services for SAP Applications offering (formerly IBM SmartCloud for SAP Application). After talking with Sales Enablement Leader Joseph Gallego, we decided to update the blog post with a second version of the five steps to move your SAP application to [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword], so here we go! Step one: Compatibility You need to check the compatibility between your SAP solution and the [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services for SAP Applications supported versions regarding SAP systems, operating systems (OS) and database (DB) software. The [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] solution works with almost all SAP solutions (excluding SAP Business One) and also with the most-used operating systems and database software versions, so you need to check and see if the version you plan to use is supported by [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword]. (Related: IBM SmartCloud for SAP Applications becomes IBM Managed Services for SAP Applciations) Step two: Sizing [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services for SAP Applications is provisioned in T-shirt sizes, including XXS, XS, S, M, L and XL. SAP systems can also grow horizontally, so you can include as many SAP applications (additional virtual machines with SAP) as necessary to reach the necessary amount of SAPs for your solutions. To size your SAP application, you have two options: • If this is a new implementation, you should have the number of SAPS necessary for each SAP system (at least the production ones). If you have this situation, I will suggest you keep your quality and test system as identical as possible to production (including size) and create the development system using minimal requirements from the SAP documentation (the initial memory requirement will drive you to a medium box that should be enough to start). • If your SAP implementation is already up and running, you should convert the actual size of your infrastructure to SAPS. There a few ways to do that: you can ask your hardware vendor about the number of SAPS or look for benchmarks on the Internet. Just keep in mind that you can apply the average utilization to get the exact size you need at this moment and grow as necessary (this is what cloud is about, right?). Click here to check out the SAP benchmark web page. Step three: Location [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] solutions are working around the globe, but because of wide area network (WAN) costs you should select the best location to deliver your SAP solution. IBM offers 11 sites with [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services for SAP Applications ready to use and some additional ones during implementation. The sites that are ready to start are: • North America: Raleigh (USA), Boulder (USA) and Markham (Canada) • South America: Hortolândia (Brazil) • Europe: Ehningen (Germany), Montpellier (France), Wintethur (Switzerland), Barcelona (Spain) and UK • Asia Pacific: Sydney (Australia) and Makuhari (Japan) Step four: Services There are the three major ways to choose the best support for your SAP application. Each one was created to fit one specific purpose during a SAP implementation. The idea was to reduce cost to support environments that are not productive (from a customer point of view), so you should select the best fit for each moment during your SAP implementation. Take a look of these three service classes: • Entry Service (ES): This option includes minimal SAP and database services recommended for stand-alone SAP blueprints, demos or training systems. The idea of this service is to let customers test new systems, conduct educational sessions or create SAP demos. • Development Service (DS): This option includes special SAP and database support for development and quality assurance or test systems to seamlessly support the application project from development start until it goes live. This service is intended to support customers during implementation and until transition to a Full Service landscape. • Full Service (FS): This option includes the full scope of SAP and database support required for best practices of SAP system management. Full Service is the only service that already includes two or three systems landscapes instead of one system like ES and DS. This service can be expanded by service extensions (like SAP user administration, database refresh or languages installation). Step five: Migration If your SAP project is just starting, you will have an advantage over a local implementation. [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services for SAP Applications offers to install your SAP systems as part of the base service! So, you should use this at your convenience because SAPs are not easy things to do and require a lot of hours to be done correctly. If you already have your environment up and running, there also have a few options for you to migrate to cloud. You should select the best one for you, and keep in mind that this process could take hours to complete with some outages, so each strategy has good and bad points to consider. Here’s a look at the options that you have: • Standard Migration: For SAP systems with less than 2TB or can handle a downtime of 48 to 60 hours (one weekend). • SC4SAP Custom Migration: For SAP migrations that do not meet Standard Migration requirements and\\ have special requirements. Let me know if these steps work for you and connect with me on Twitter @odilon_goulart and LinkedIn (Odilon Magroski Goulart Junior) to talk about SC4SAP. You can also post questions or comments here! ",

  610.
We’re excited to announce a collaboration with IBM that brings the power of the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform to the [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Marketplace. IBM customers looking to further simplify application development and operations for increased innovation and the industry’s lowest overall TCO can opt to include AppDynamics at no additional cost. As more and more enterprise companies rely on a cloud platform to support new and innovative applications to keep pace with rapidly changing business requirements, pairing the Application Intelligence Platform with the [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] marketplace simply makes sense. Together these technologies provide the nimbleness of the Cloud, the stable, reliable service expected from IBM, and AppDynamics’ unparalleled visibility and control for managing and improving application performance while simultaneously extracting intelligence from ‘in production’ apps to both inform line of business executives and help drive better business decisions. AppDynamics has also partnered with IBM to develop support for IBM DataPower, IBM’s popular purpose-built messaging appliance used within highly secure enterprises, including leading banks around the world. The AppDynamics Monitoring Extension for DataPower provides IBM DataPower customers with end-to-end visibility for the best possible control over applications with complex security and reliability requirements. All the metrics gathered from DataPower into AppDynamics by this extension are automatically and dynamically baselined and alerts can be set up on AppDynamics to: notify administrators, operators or other ticketing applications if any metrics breach undesirable thresholds in real-time automatically remediate problems based on health-rule violations Unlike other application monitoring providers, AppDynamics allows DataPower users to mix and match which portions of the application intelligence platform they’d like to deploy to best meet individual needs. This is not an all-or-nothing offering with pay-for-support fine lines. With the AppDynamics Monitoring Extension for DataPower, customers can now automatically correlate their dashboards and snapshots to their business critical applications: Application dashboard with DataPower as a custom exit point Fully correlated snapshots Custom dashboard Of course, AppDynamics has had long-standing support for IBM products like WebSphere application server, WebSphereMQ and IBM DB2, with customers also monitoring IBM commerce platforms like IBM Yantra and IBM Sterling Commerce. The addition of AppDynamics as an [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Marketplace offering together with the new support for IBM DataPower are just two more examples of the collaboration with IBM for the benefit of our mutual enterprise customers. We look forward to continuing to work alongside IBM for their customers as they create, manage and optimize their business critical applications. 672.
TOKYO, Sept. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Toyota Boshoku will use [Keyword]IBM cloud[/Keyword] technology in worldwide manufacturing and engineering projects, including automotive design. The new IBM SmartCloud Engineering Desktop consists of a group of cloud solutions designed for industrial sector clients that tap mission-critical 3D applications globally. (Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20090416/IBMLOGO ) The global manufacturing industry faces an urgent need to deploy complex design, development and production systems to diverse locations to keep up with tight competition and address changes in market demands. To better meet their needs, many organizations look to use cloud technology to build an agile, global engineering environment. These needs include global work sharing for design and development and collaboration in efficient product development in their worldwide supplier network -- all while reducing risks and costs. Designed to enable an agile engineering environment for companies like Toyota Boshoku, the engineering cloud includes technology from IBM and Citrix. By incorporating Citrix XenDesktop with HDX 3D Pro, IBM can virtualize and securely deliver 3D graphics or other intensive applications and high-performing desktops. Toyota Boshoku manufactures interior systems for automobile manufacturers in Japan and internationally. As an early adopter of 3D technology on the IBM Smart Business Desktop Cloud with Citrix XenDesktop, Toyota Boshoku has integrated computer-aided design (CAD) and Office applications on one desktop, which enhances productivity while reducing floor space and energy utilization. Loss of proprietary manufacturing designs and processes, CAD files, financial information, customer lists, research data and any other information that gives a company a competitive edge can halt business operations. The engineers of Toyota Boshoku can now securely access their engineering data and intellectual property which is centrally stored through Desktop Cloud environment from anywhere, at anytime to share with teams around the globe. This solution brings a variety of benefits to engineers. For example, engineers are now able to access highly confidential assembly data from design rooms, project rooms, and factories without moving actual design data from the server to local PCs. In addition, because of XenDesktop with HDX 3D Pro, they can view assembly data from a factory far from the servers where the original data is securely located, without extending network bandwidth. This allows Toyota Boshoku to build a secure and accessible environment without adding high network costs. IBM will initially provide solutions for the desktop cloud environment designed for CAD applications and digital document security. The desktop cloud CAD solutions will provide each designer with flexible workstations with powerful image processing capabilities for intensive design work. Centralized management of confidential information is also available to enhance data properties. In addition, security solutions for digital documents will help prevent secondary leakage of confidential information in CAD applications by managing security policies on the cloud. These policies can help secure data being sent and received concerning research, design and development, which is especially important for designers increasingly using wireless or mobile devices such as tablets. "Because of IBM's history of working with clients using cloud computing, we are consistently applying new knowledge gained from across a diverse and international set of customers," said Erich Clementi, senior vice president, IBM Global Technology Services. "As a result, global clients like Toyota Boshoku continue to benefit from IBM's unique expertise and industry focus." "In the 3D professional graphic space, users demand very high performance and high image quality. IBM's leadership in data center blade system technologies, combined with the virtualization experience of Citrix, means that we can implement solutions with the performance necessary to satisfy the needs of engineers and designers," said Gordon Payne, senior vice president and general manager, Desktop and Cloud Division, Citrix. As the basis for IBM SmartCloud Engineering Desktop, clients can leverage IBM's six global data centers to enable the utilization of standardized cloud services regardless of location. This will help them build a globally-optimized engineering environment for their organization and provide an environment to collaborate and integrate the power of global suppliers. Additionally, IBM will actively work with independent software vendors (ISV) and business partners that play important role in developing and offering engineering solutions. About [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Computing IBM has helped thousands of clients adopt cloud models and manages millions of cloud-based transactions every day. 702.
A guide to [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services V1.4",
  703.
On March 25, 2014 we announced the latest release of [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Manage Services 1.4. With this release we have taken another step to position Cloud Managed Services as the leading fully managed cloud solution in the marketplace and the foundation for our platform cloud services addressing SAP and Oracle applications. This new release was deployed in our 11 Cloud Managed Services data centers between April 14 and May 19. So what have we managed to cram into this release? As a starter we have proven our delivery capability and as a consequence improved availability. The service level agreement (SLA) details are as follows: One of the major highlights in this release is around disaster recovery (DR). Two means of DR have been implemented. Both have a goal of meeting a recovery point objective of 15 minutes and a recovery time objective of four hours as well as providing both fail over and fail back capability. 1. The first option is between Cloud Managed Services data centers. This is limited to the paired Ehningen – Montpellier and Raleigh –Boulder data centers. With this option you will continue having full functionality. 2. The second option will use the IBM Business Continuity and Resiliency Services Virtual Server Recovery capabilities located in the same country as the Cloud Managed Services data center. This option will be available in Australia, France, Japan and the United Kingdom. (Related: What’s new with [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services V1.4?) Storage tiering is another feature implemented in this release. In addition to the high performance storage that was available in previous releases, we have now added basic storage as an option. You can select if you’d like the storage to be pre-allocated or dynamically assigned. In order to support HIPAA and PCI workloads, we have introduced the option to encrypt data at rest. Here you can chose from using either virtual or physical appliances. Another important function that has been added is the capability of capture and clone server images, which allows you to create your own private image library. In addition, we are also introducing the capability to do FlashCopy of data in order to replicate data stores. These functions are initially only available on p-series (AIX) servers. On the connectivity side, we’re simplifying how you can connect your network into our Cloud Managed Services data centers through a “carrier hotel” and how you can attach to your Cloud Managed Services vLANs through a private vLAN. This feature supports bandwidths ranging from 1.5 Mbps to 155 Mbps. Load balancing as a service is also a feature included in this release that will allow you to distribute loads between servers using various algorithms (such as round robin or least connection). Migration services that will help you migrate workloads to Cloud Managed Services are now a standardized and pre-priced feature. The standard IBM Migration Service for Cloud Managed Services consists of two steps: migration execution and remediation. Other services like discovery, analysis or design and planning services are value added services and can be priced separately. In addition to the functionality described above, there are a lot of small enhancements that have gone into this release in order to improve your experience. What features are you looking for in a fully managed cloud infrastructure? The post A guide to [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services V1.4 appeared first on Thoughts on Cloud. ",

  734.
With the release of [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services V1.3, there have been significant feature changes to the product offering. One of these feature enhancements is the Active Directory (AD) integration feature. As of V1.3, there are now three different integration options available to suit the range of applications that enterprises support. The basic premise of the feature is to allow you to leverage your existing Active Directory implementation for authentication within Cloud Managed Services. All three scenarios offer complete DNS integration, so that your servers in Cloud Managed Services can resolve your existing servers and your existing servers can resolve your Cloud Managed Services servers. This is particularly necessary when it comes to integrating your Active Directory infrastructure with that of a cloud service provider. Scenario one: IBM Managed Active Directory Lite This option is standard unless one of the other two scenarios is chosen. Features: • A Cloud Managed Services managed Active Directory domain dedicated to you • Active Directory external domain trust integration between your existing domain and your dedicated Cloud Managed Services domain • The ability to recognize credentials in Cloud Managed Services from your existing domain, eliminating the need for account duplication/replication. Scenario two: IBM Managed Active Directory Scenario two builds on the offering from Scenario one by enabling additional functionality within AD. Cloud Managed Services offers a seamless upgrade from Scenario one to Scenario two. Features: • A Cloud Managed Services managed Active Directory domain dedicated to you • Active Directory forest or external trust integration between your existing domain and your dedicated Cloud Managed Services domain • The ability to recognize credentials in Cloud Managed Services from your existing domain, eliminating the need for account duplication or replication • Active Directory schema extensions for your Active Directory enabled applications • Kerberos authentication protocol support between your existing environment and your Cloud Managed Services Windows servers • Support for co-located Domain Controllers in Cloud Managed Services from your existing domains • Support for a stronger security policy than the Cloud Managed Services default (which is already extensive) Scenario three: Customer Managed Active Directory Scenario three allows you to keep the Cloud Managed Services guests within your existing AD domains. This is of particular value when taking advantage of AD integrated applications already deployed in your enterprise. Features: • Cloud Managed Services Windows instances are now provisioned directly into your existing managed Active Directory domains • Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) for your Cloud Managed Services guests matching your existing AD suffixes • Existing AD integrated applications and schema extensions useable on your Cloud Managed Services guests • Kerberos authentication protocol support between your existing environment and your Cloud Managed Services Windows servers • Support for provisioning directly into specified Organizational Units • Support for Organizational Unit based Group Policy Objects • Support for a stronger security policy than the Cloud Managed Services default (which is already extensive) • External outbound trust to enable Cloud Managed Services management The Cloud Managed Services product is continuing to evolve. Stay tuned for updates regarding the upcoming 1.4 release. The post Active Directory integration in [Keyword]IBM Cloud[/Keyword] Managed Services V1.3 appeared first on Thoughts on Cloud. ",
