  1. Transcript of Academic Corrections Officer’s Interview with Jeremy Andreassen
  2. Andreassen enters.
  3. Officer:”Please, sit down.”
  4. Andreassen nervously shifts about, before sitting down. He appears to be agitated, but attempts to relax.
  5. O:”Would you like anything to drink? Coffee perhaps? I know you haven’t had anything since last night.”
  6. A:”...Some water, please.”
  7. O:”Of course.” The Officer briefly casts, and summons a pitcher and two cups, before pouring them both a drink.
  8. Andreassen receives his offered cup, and slowly drinks.
  9. O:”I heard you were having some family issues, I believe you are from Thorreholme, correct?”
  10. A:”Yes, sir.”
  11. O:”How is it going, over there?”
  12. Andreassen takes some time to respond.
  13. A:”Not great, to be honest. My parents aren’t very happy that I’ve not shown much progress, and I’m almost out of money.”
  14. O:”Do you typically rely on your parents for finances?”
  15. A:”No, I… I received a sum for education expenses, which I’ve almost exhausted.”
  16. O:”I see.”
  17. The Officer deliberates for a short time.
  18. O:”I heard you previously attended an academy in Thorreholme, is this true?”
  19. A:”Yes, sir.”
  20. O:”Did you receive a fund there too?”
  21. Andreassen visibly flinches.
  22. A:”No...um, yes...er. It was the same fund. I was dismissed early into my second semester.”
  23. O:”Oh dear. What for?”
  24. A:”I failed to meet minimum standards.” Divination reveals this to be truthful.
  25. O:”And so you came here, to continue to attempt your studies?”
  26. A:”Yes, sir.”
  27. Officer refills Andreassen’s cup.
  28. O:”Now then, let's get to the main topic. Last evening, our wards detected an intrusion into the student restricted materials. This was you, correct?”
  29. A:”Yes, sir.”
  30. O:”Why did you attempt to pick the lock, most mages at least use-ah; I see.”
  31. A:”Please don’t mock me, I was hoping this place would have left physical tools out of the ward as an oversight.”
  32. O:”My apologies, and yes, we did. Something that has already been rectified. Congratulations for being the first to attempt to break into our restricted magics section without any magic. If you had simply wandered around and left, we would not have caught you.”
  33. A:”But I didn’t.”
  34. O:”But you didn’t. You were caught in a corner, reading A. Growth, having pulled a book off of one the the shelves. Where did you learn about that paper, by the way?”
  35. Andreassen doesn’t respond.
  36. O:”This is important. I would like an answer.”
  37. A:”A faculty member mentioned it as something I might find helpful. By accident.” Divination reveals the former part of this to be true, and the later part to be false.
  38. O:”I see.”
  39. The Officer contemplates for several minutes.
  40. O:”I will be leaving to discuss your verdict with the others; the dean will return after to deliver your verdict.”
  41. The Officer exits.
  42. Almost an hour passes.
  43.
  44. The portion after this requires permission of the dean to read.
  45. The dean enters.
  46. Dean:”So it seems you weren’t able to be quiet enough, I see.”
  47. A:”Considering you set up a trap for me, I was not.”
  48. D:”Such baseless accusations! I was merely ensuring the safety of my students was not endangered.”
  49. Andreassen audibly groans.
  50. A:”Well, what now?”
  51. D:”Did you ever finish reading the paper?”
  52. A:”I did not. It’s almost like the security was waiting for me to enter.”
  53. D:”Then take your time now.”
  54. The Dean places a copy of ‘Accelerated Growth: Elves, Humans, and Goblins’ across from Andreassen.
  55. A:”Are you messing with me again? Another trap?”
  56. D:”No. Not this time. Skim through it. I’ve circled the important bits, but read whatever you feel is necessary.”
  57. Andreassen takes the booklet, and spends the next thirty minutes reading through it.
  58. A:”This is...I can understand why this is restricted. What in the hells did you mean by not dangerous! This is exactly dangerous!”
  59. D:”Not dangerous in the same way to pledging your soul to a devil, or using one’s own blood without regard.”
  60. A:”But it’s risking your life! For training!”
  61. D:”SILENCE!”
  62. Andreassen is silenced by a casting from the dean.
  63. D:”I will offer you two options from here on out. I could expel you, and you would simply get to leave. No more studies without results, you have had enough time as it is.”
  64. D:”The alternative, is a suspension for the remainder of this term, and until the start of next. During this time, you reach the expected level of a student of your duration, via trial by fire. Undergoing real stress, struggle, strain, and risk of death are the fastest ways to improve ones growth. You might even be able to solve that tuition problem you’ve been having.”
  65. The Dean allows Andreassen time to consider.
  66. D:”Now. Hold up one finger if you are satisfied with what you’ve had, or two if you want another chance. Just one, or two.”
  67. After a moment, Andreassen holds up two fingers.
  68. D:”Good. Staff will be here momentarily to see you to the dorms.”
  69. The Dean snaps, removing the silence from Andreassen.
  70. A:”I, yo-”
  71. D:”Oh, and, do be safe.”
  72. The dean exits.
