heyyy, I've almost got an AGP-as-normal-female-sexuality theory working:
let's start with some observations
that all need to be explained
women report high levels of generic AGP (e.g. arousal to being a woman, to having female sex characteristics, being turned on by thinking about how they look during sex), with lesbians reporting slightly less than other women; however, when it comes to mimicry-AGP, straight women report less than lesbian or bi women
AGP in men does not correlate with femininity (and thus cannot be explained as a form of feminization)
some gay men are AGP
AAP is rarer in straight women than in lesbians, and might slightly correlate with masculinity, even though AGP in men doesn't correlate with femininity
(gimme a sec to list all the things that need to be explained)
AAP does not appear to be mimicry-AAP as much as AGP is mimicry-AGP
straight women are aroused by erotic depictions of women
mimicry-AGP in women correlates with femininity, even though mimicry-AAP in men does not correlate with masculinity

okay so here is my proposal:
people have a part of their sexual system that focuses on themselves (related to ODSC), along with something to recognize men, and something to recognize women
this ODSC system is connected in a sexually dimorphic way to the male-recognition/female-recognition system, to make women AGP and men AAP
the way this connection works is that there "by default" in some sense is a connection between woman-recognition and ODSC, but this gets overridden by something (prenatal androgens?) in males to create AAP
whatever thing that overrides it "saturates" in men; that is, it is sufficiently strong that variation in it does not lead to variation in level of AGP, and therefore AGP does not correlate with femininity in men
in addition to this, it is possible for the male-recognition/female-recognition systems to accidentally get wired up to ODSC anyway, especially if these systems are more active (ETII), leading to AGP in straight men and AAP in gay men; this is a somewhat stochastic process, and even the kind that is less active can end up connected, leading to e.g. AGP in gay men
this miswiring might be necessary for the mimicry forms of A*P, as otherwise it might not be directed towards specific people, because it does not originate from interest in specific people; this explains the low mimicry-autogynephilia rate in straight women
since the effect does not saturated in women, masculinization in women would reduce the effect that leads to AGP, and increase the effect that leads to AAP; this explains why AGP and AAP correlate with masculinity/femininity in women but not in men, along with why generic AGP is reduced in lesbians and AAP is increased in lesbians
straight womens arousal by erotic depictions of women is plausibly a necessity for them having so high degrees of generic AGP; the lower rates of generic AAP in straight men reflects the fact that straight men are not aroused by erotic depictions of men
mmm, I don't think I have an explanation for "AAP does not appear to be mimicry-AAP as much as AGP is mimicry-AGP"; I'm tempted to link it to restricted sociosexuality but it's not a great argument
anyway that's the extent of the theory I think

oh and I forgot the most important part!
the problem with the ETII model is that self-focused sexuality seems extremely complicated and so it seems unlikely that this could just happen by chance
this model explains why self-focused sexuality already exists (it serves a function outside of AGP), and therefore it is simply a miswiring! (simpler and easier to happen by chance than an entirely new form of sexuality)
