  1. Devourer
  2. Types: Compulsion, Cosmic, Mutable
  3. Also Known As: Ravener, Harvester, Reaper
  4.
  5. Core
  6. The core of the Devourer phenomenon is a rough shape resembling an uneven pair of legs (or four, or twelve, or only one grasping arm) attached to an enormous cone of a body filled with whirring, grinding teeth. The Devourer's form is mutable, and further can separate into a cloud of razor-sharp dust and shrapnel. It can be a shambling titan whose presence announces itself well ahead of time through thundering footsteps and a shrill, hateful whirr, or a thin fog which reduces any who walk through it into a bloody mist.
  7.
  8. Effect
  9. The Devourer is one of the more straightforward Intruders: it is constantly hungry and in search of new meals, or else arranging for more ideal meals in the future. Each creature it devours and processes adds to its mass, making it larger and more dangerous. Its mood fluctuates wildly, sometimes content to subtly reap food over a lengthy period, sometimes storming through towns consuming all in its wake and
  10. While unintelligent compared to its peers, it is nonetheless capable of patience. Its favored prey seems to be well-fed predators. It prefers to conserve its energy by thinning into mist and seeping into the ground, spreading its influence into the world above it--empowering predators and increasing their hunger, while turning the environment against prey animals, making it more difficult for them to hide or escape. Once its prey has been sufficiently well-fed it will rise from the earth as a thin mist, sometimes simply digesting its targets, other times coalescing into its monstrous form and rampaging a while.
  11. Though it is more than capable of destroying or consuming plant matter, it does not seem able to increase its size this way.
  12.
  13. Minions
  14. The Devourer's minions are natural predators twisted to unnatural extremes. At lower levels of influence, these can be fleas and mosquitoes constantly seeking food and reproducing, forming thick swarms which can exsanguinate prey with disturbing swiftness. The stronger its influence, the more disturbing and powerful its creations--multi-headed wolves, bears whose mouths can open to halfway down their bodies, and eagles with venomous talons are some of the milder examples.
  15. These minions exist purely to consume prey and feed the Devourer when it rises. When on a rampage, it seldom deigns to create super-predators just to add spice to its meal.
  16.
  17. [Talents]
  18. The influence of the Devourer can spread to humans who hunt, be it for food or sport. Their bodies are altered in a dramatic fashion, usually in a way which reflects their hunting style. An adept bowman may develop rows of long poison spikes he can fire with his bow; a rifleman gains powerful and inhumanly steady muscles and additional eyes which operate at different manifestations; and a spear hunter may develop inhuman layers of muscles and the ability to breathe underwater.
  19. [Talents] drawing their origin from the Devourer have Source: Magic and Permission: Power Theme (Monstrous Hunter) as their archetype.
