Main road

That night, Tirihi-san didn't come by.

...I understood.
Of course i knew.

Of course there wouldn't be such a yummy event.
Even if there was, it would probably be limited to hot guys.

I don't even know where she lives, I can't even initiate it from my end.

I slept by myself lonesomely, and woke up on the dirt floor of the elder's house.
I felt like i saw some kind of dream, but i can't remember it.

When i wake up i'll be in my apartment in Tokyo. I was waiting for that kind of development, but i gues that wasn't possible.
Tirihi-san didn't come by as well, Waking up sucks.

I let out a sigh as i rested my body on the bed.
The bed was just a roughly make thing with a mat on top of a plank and a blanket.
I wondered about this level of service but, i don't really know the standards of this world, it might really just be this.

By the way, i tossed out the delusion that this world was Virtual Reality when i went to the toilet.
If i was at a hospital, then i would get one of those urine containers at the very least, then i wouldn't have had to worry about my real body. It was supposed to be a marvelous thing.
Rather I didn't want to wake up.

This is the real world, I am to live in this world.

"Nn"

At the very least let me stretch my arms.

"Excuse me"

It was the Elder's voice.

"Have you completely woken up? It's almost time to depart."

I took my luggage and left the house.
Even if i say "luggage", it's just a copper sword and a pouch. In the pouch i put in my 130 knarls and the thieves intelligence card.
This was my current assets.

I forgot.
A copper sword and a pouch werent my entire assets after all.

I somehow knew that my jersey was on top of the table near the entrance.
The middle of the dirt floor was still dark. The front door was left open but, outside was finally starting to brighten up.

I wore the clothes i received rather than my jersey.
How will i take it with me.

"These clothes are made with some very unusual materials. I would think that they are surely valuable clothes."
"They really aren't as valuable as you say they are"

It was just a cheap jersey.
Well, I would suppose that this world doesn't have Polyester fibres.

"If you'd like, please use this bag"

The elder took out a relatively large bag.
Attached to it was a shoulder strap.
It was a rucksack.

"Hou"
"Also, here is your breakfast. You can even eat it on horse carriage if you please."
"Sorry for the inconveniences"

I gratefully received both the breakfast and the rucksack.
Inside the rucksack was my jersey, pouch and breakfast which has been bundled up.
About the bundle, inside seemed to only fit around a piece of bread. Well i can't really call it luxurious by any means.
"Also over here are our thanks for saving the village."
The elder handed a bag over to me.
It was the same bag i received yesterday.

"Hmm?"
As i casually took the bag, i opened it up and found some coins inside.
A dull light that would probably shine bright golden yellow if it was brighter. Gold coins huh. More than ten.
"I hope it won't be too tough but..."
"No, you're too kind. Thank you kindly for these."
"No please, to repay you with just that, there are no excuses on my behalf."

I thought about it for a bit and then i took up his offer.
There arent many demerits to taking it.
He left in the opposite direction so, i hope he won't talk behind my back or think of me as a greedy person.
Well theres no good thinking about it.
I don't want to stand out anyway, so it doesn't really matter if i'm known as an honest guy anyway.
It's not like there was a particular reason to sell a favour to this village.
Tirihi-san didn't even come by.

Putting everything inside, i carried the rucksack to my shoulder.
Following the elder,i got outside.
Going to the outskirts of the village, the merchant had already prepared the wagon.

"Good morning to you"
"Mm. Morning"

I exchanged some pleasantries with the merchant.

"We'll leave as soon as it's brighter. Would you please sit next to the driver's seat."
"Alright"

I got on the wagon.
It'll be great if it doesn't shake.

On the roof rack were the bandits equipments, two of Tirihi-san's swords, and a cage which looked like a small kennel. Tirihi-san seemed to have given up on selling Taggers.
The cage was surrounded by planks on three sides, only one side had a grid pattern put in.
As i was thinking 'what was that', a man was brought along and placed into the cage.
It was the thief from yesterday.

"This person will also go with you to Beiru, and get sold to a slave merchant."

The elder explained.

"Really."
"Half of the sales money will go to Michio-sama as a compensation."
"...N-no. He returned the right equipment back to me anyway, it's fine even if you don't do that."
"If all the sales money is given to the family, he can be bought back in the earlier stages. That would not convey punishment at all. Please, so that this case will end."

Indeed.
That does have a logical feel to it.
As an outsider i guess i can't object to the village's laws.

I agreed with a nod.

Probably the family members of the thief. A single man came over, exchanging some words for some reason with the man in the cage. A small girl standing there, 'Papa don't go', it great something like that didn't happen.
Even if i didn't understand the language, i could probably understand by the atmosphere.
These family members on some level, did they just give up, as they held an indifferent conversation.

"Well it's starting to get brighter. Time to leave."

The merchant got on next to me.
To make the horse's take off, he managed the reins.

The sun still hasn't come up but, it was close to the village so he was probably already used to it.

"Sorry for the trouble"
"Not at all. For taking it upon yourself to save the village, really thank you very much"

I exchanged some departing words with the elder.
The wagon started heading towards the outside of the village.
It's likely that i won't be coming to this village a second time, but to me this was my first village.
Turning my head around, i recorded the village's appearance within my memories.

On the roof rack, on top of the cage and equipment a sheet was layed upon it.
The man who has been dropped to slavery seems to be behaving.

"Is the journey going to be safe?"
After finally settling down a little from the travelling, i asked the merchant.

"The highway along the path to Beiru will carry out the subjugation of monsters at certain intervals."
"I see"
"It should not be too dangerous"

When the light finally started peeping out from across the horizon, the wagon sped up.
The wagon rattled and shook quite a bit.
Was it the road that was bad or was it the wagon? Most likely a bit of both.

Surrounding the highway were a stretch of Broad-leafed forests.
If you go inside you wouldn't know but, the trees running along the side of the highway  weren't all that tall.
You couldn't exactly call it a very deep forest.

Even though they were just continuing into the forest, it wasn't like there weren't enjoyable sights.
However before that, the shaking didn't allow for much appreciation for the scenery.

There was nothing i could do but shut up and endure the shaking.
I tried to take a bite into the breakfast bread but, doing it along with all the shaking proved to be quite a difficult task.
There wasn't much else to do either, so i just kept looking straight ahead.

Hmmm.
There's not much to do.
Except, if i don't change my sitting posture from time to time, my ass started hurting.

And. In front of us a small shadow squirmed.
Something seems to be there.

Slow rabbit - Lvl 1

"A Slow Rabbit's there"
"Oh you realised what it was already"
"It's because I hunted them yesterday"

I knew that it was a Slow Rabbit all thanks to the Judgement skill.
It was still too small, so i couldn't see it very well from here.

"A-As expected. If it's just a Slow Rabbit then i'm relieved. I'll gradually slow down the speed as we advance."
"Umu"

The wagon got closer to the beast in the blink of an eye, and passed right by the Slow Rabbit.
If it was me by myself i would want to go and hunt it but, it's probably better to reach Beiru sooner.

"I-it certainly is a Slow Rabbit"

Advancing a little further, in the far away distance something else began to come into view.
It's a bit far away so i still couldn't exactly make out what it was.

Gummy Slime Lvl 1

Quite a few monsters are showing up huh.

"Seems like it's a Gummy Slime"
"A Gummy Slime you say"

The merchant dropped the speed of the wagon.

"What's wrong"
"Gummy Slime's are the type of monsters who attack people on sight. Furthermore their body is soft so our attacks aren't exactly effective."
"If it's just that then there's no problem"

If i have Durandul it should be fine.

"Around here it's the most formidable enemies. If you capture the slime and cover it up, the body will end up dissolving. It's at the level where it takes all the people in the village to drive it off if it appears"

The merchant explained the horrors of the Gummy Slime.
It does seem quite daunting as expected.

In any case, to catch it like clumsily, as long as i don't step on it i should be fine. It's only Lvl 1.
I just said it wouldn't be a problem anyway, so i gotta do it.
This fight will probably have to be done sooner or later anyway.

"It's alright. Just keep advancing like this"

I gave the order to the merchant.

"A-Alright sir"

The merchant made the wagon move forward.

So that i could take out Durandul, i called out the character setting screen.
Huh? The 2 leftover bonus points that i should have had became 0.
No. Right now the monster takes priority. I'll think about it later.
The 30% increase for transaction prices became 0, and I invested 6 points into weaponry.

Speaking of which, the Hero's job had a skill iirc. In the case i can't take it down with Durandul, i'll have a chance to try it out.
CAlling the job settings to verify.

Skill Overwhelming

I don't really get it.

"Overwhelming?"

Which was the incantation that was floating around in my head.
So this is what i chant.

"...Is everything alright?"
"Yes, it's fine. Let's go"
"Alright then"

The chuunibyou patient that was myself came to be noticed by the merchant but, he ignored it.
I put down the rucksack and my body became lighter. The copper sword was placed to my feet. I withdrew Durandul from its scabbard, the scabbard i wore on my side.

When the wagon had gotten closer, the Gummy Slime also seemed to acknowledge us, moving towards our general direction.

"Good, stop"
"O-ok"

Judging that the wagon's speed has slowed enough, I jumped down from the driver's seat.
Running along and past the horses, appearing right in front of the Gummy Slime. Setting up Durandul to the bottom-left, i swung it like a bat hitting it horizontally with a swing. Durandul slicing the Gummy slime's green-blue body into pieces, came out to the right of the Gummy Slime.
It seems like i won't be able to beat it in one hit.

"To deliver... woah"

In that case i started chanting the incantation to the skill, however the Gummy slime jumped towards me. In panic i twisted my body around, somehow dodging the Gummy Slime.
Chanting in the midst of battle, it's impossible.

The gummy slime once again jumped to where i had set up my sword. This time i could see the Gummy Slime quite well and as a result, easily chased it away with my sword.

I raised Durandul up and swung down where it had landed. Hitting it from the top of it's head right through the bottom of its body. As one would expect if it ate one of these it would probably be the end. Even though i don't know if i has a head or not.

The Gummy Slime laid feebly, spread out on the ground. Becoming green smoke, it died like it was melting.

When the green haze disappeared, some white thing was left.

Slime Starch

It's some drop item that i don't get.
Well i'll take it for now.

To defeat the Gummy Slime it seems like it needs two hits with Durandal.
Also, chanting during battle is quite hard. Can't really concentrate. It's probably good to use as a pre-emptive attack.
What would i do if i fell into a dangerous situation and i want to use my skills.
I need to train.

While i was reflecting on the battle earlier, the merchant came along with the wagon.

"Have you defeated it sir"
"Yea"
"In such a short time... as expected sir"
"Maa, i suppose"

Even if i say that, even for Durandal it took two shots.
If it was the copper sword who knows how many attacks would be needed. I'll probably get killed before i found out.

"Could it be that Michio-sama is a great magician"

The merchant came to inquire.

"I thought i saw it get defeated with my sword though"
"Indeed. Yesterday too you went and used your sword"

The time i took down the bandits, i didn't use magic.
More like i couldn't use it.

"I guess"

I got back onto the wagon.

Magic should exist in this world. It's what i selected in the settings.
I guess it was wrong of me to assume that magicians live amongst the common folk.

"Is that Slime starch"
"Yup"
"How about this. For protecting me before and as thanks, could you allow me to buy it off you"

I hurriedly brought up my character's re-settings.
I cancelled the Weapons-6, and in it's steed put in the 30% transaction increase.
So that the merchant couldn't see, only after i hid Durandal in the back did i finish my settings.
I wouldn't want him to think that it was weird.

"Alright. Let's do that"

I handed the Slime starch over to the merchant.
I wonder if i made it.

"Slime starch starts fermentating after it dissolves in water, making alcohol. It's called Slime beer, there's quite a lot of people who like the dish.
"Hou"
"Normally it'll cost 80 Neel. For protecting the wagon i'll think i'll give you 10 times that. Michio-sama is an acquaintance so how about 1040 Neels"
"Sorry about this. I'll just be taking this"

3.8.24(times table thing), adding it up from 800 becomes 1040.
The exact 3/10ths increase seems to be effective.
I received 10 silver coins and 4 copper coins from the merchant.

Putting it in my pouch, i carried my rucksack.

"Are there any magicians around here?"

I got a bit curious so i asked.

"Saa... i don't know. To become a magician, it seems like you need to drink some sort of medicine until you're five. Only people who are nobles or the kids of multi-millionares can become magicians. I haven't heard of anything like that near here."
"I see"

Even becoming a magician has those kinds of restrictions.
I probably can't become a magician then.
No, actually...

In any case, there's something else to think about.
While the wagon was getting shaken, i was thinking about my bonus points.

The bonus points that i thought were saved up, were gone.

The ones i'm using right now are Transaction price 30% up for 63 points.
Essential experience 1/5 for 15 points.
Experience gain 5x for 15 points.
So far the total is 93 points.
3 points for 3rd job, that's 96.
Judgement, Job setting, Character reset, that's 99.
There's 0 points left over, so it hasn't increased at all from the beginning.

And, that's what my calculations tell me.

My bonus points increased when Villager leveled up.
Right now i removed Villager lvl 3 and replaced it with Farmer lvl 1 so, that's probably why my bonus points remained the same as before.

Just to try it, I brought up my Job settings, changed my first job back to Villager lvl 3.
And then using Character reset...

See, as i thought i have 2 bonus points.
