  4. NAME: Caden Gainnes
  5. ROLE: Protagonist
  6. AGE: 19

  10. STORY: At age 8, his father died of cancer, and his mother died of grief shortly after. Grew up with his maternal grandparents, which he wasn't very close to, and that didn't make much of an effort to become close to him either. Had next to no friends all the way through school due to his reclusive personality. Had a secret hideout under a bridge, where he would stay in until late night.
  11. At the end of the prologue, he walks in to a murder happening in his hideout, and is then murdered via drowning by the killer. He then becomes a poltergeist-type ghost, and stuff happens.

  54. SETTING
  55. ----------
  56.
  57. Modern-day setting, but with a twist. When someone dies, one of two things can happen to them: they can continue to exist on earth, but as a 'ghost', or they can 'ascend', which is assumed to be the equivalent of going to heaven or hell. No one really knows what happens after you ascend.
  58. People that were happy with their lives ascend when they die, but those who weren't become ghosts.
  59.
  60. In general, ghosts have the abilities common to them in other media, such as floating, going through objects, and being invisible to the common person's naked eye. But unique to the ghosts in here is how they are terribly afraid of whatever caused their death. For example, if one died by drowning, they would be afraid of water, and etc.
  61. However, they are not immortal; rather, they possess a certain amount of energy inside them, and when that energy runs out, they disappear. As such, ghosts can be divided in two categories:
  62. 1) Weak-type. (provisory name?) The ghosts of people that commited suicide. They have a much smaller amount of energy.
  63. 2) Poltergeist-type. The ghost of a person that died by means other than suicide (?). As the name implies, they are able to move physical objects around, due to their greater amount of energy.
  64.
  65. It is possible for a living human to be able to see ghosts, but it is not simple. In order to do so, one must:
  66. 1) Have suffered a near-death experience (will be able to see them clearly)
  67. 2) Have had a close friend, familiar, or loved one die and become a ghost. (ability evolves with time)
  68. 3) Have a natural ability that allows them to do so. (varies)
  69.
  70. The story takes place on a yet-unnamed city, whose main features are a college, an amusement park, and a river, which has a bridge passing over it.
  71.
  72. OTHER
  73. ----------
  74.
  75. Narration style: first-person, with Caden as the narrator.
