  1. A/N: This is my first book so I would appreciate constructive criticism. This will help me be a better writer.
  2.
  3. -----
  4.
  5. Year: 1928
  6.
  7. Viana's POV
  8.
  9. It's been three days since I got disowned by my cruel mother. I got myself into fights and pickpocketing. All I did are for just my survival. I want to stay alive. Until, that one night.
  10.
  11. At this night, I was in the dark alleyway, trying to run away from the police. However, I reached a dead end. I was sweating and breathing for more air. So exhausted from running. I thought to myself, "Oh no. Do I have to stay here and wait for the police to get me? Jail might have food and other necessities but the people there are the worst!".
  12.
  13. While I lied at the corner, I saw a flash of light. The next thing is a playing card flying towards me. Its metallic body was shined by the bright light. I closed my dark chocolate eyes and covered my sweat coated face with my hands. I was hoping I didn't die from a metallic card.
  14.
  15. When I moved my hands away from my face and opened my eyes, I saw that the beam of light was pointing at my flat chest. Behind the light is a woman with pale skin, white curly hair which was sat on by a black mini top hat with reds on small details and shiny bright red lips running a curl. She was clad in a crimson aviator coat accented with black and bits of gold. Her neck was covered by a bright red scarf. Her matte black gloves covered her slim fingers. Her body was followed by bunch of silver playing cards. Some are glittered with light while others are covered in darkness. She had a thompson gun behind her.
  16.
  17. I raised my arms proving that I'm not armed and I kneeled down from fear. My spine shivered from paranoia. I asked her,
  18.
  19. "W-why are you here, m-miss?"
  20.
  21. She answered, "I'm looking for someone who would fit in a job. I think you fit this type of job. After all, you have perfect physique for this job."
  22.
  23. "A-a job? For me?"
  24.
  25. Her lips curled more, "Yes. Tell me if you are willing to."
  26.
  27. She turned her back as two cops shouted, "Back off! We are capturing a thief."
  28.
  29. She giggled, "Hmm? No thank you, sirs.", She pulled out her tommy gun and it sent a rain of bullets to their bodies. I placed my hands between my ears for safety. One by one, the bullets created holes that leak blood on the cops' bodies. The cops' limp bloodbathed bodies fell down to the ground. I took a peek to the bodies full of holes. It's fucking horrifying.
  30.
  31. I shouted, "HOLY SHIT!"
  32.
  33. I went near the killer slowly and her tommy gun was adorned with gold inscribes around it. I saw two of them from the barrel. It said, "Jimmy Sr.
  34.
  35. Belongs to: Hilda Osborne."
  36.
  37. Hmm... H. Osborne. That sounds familiar. I found her wanted poster here. I wonder why.
  38.
  39. Hilda's POV
  40.
  41. I can't let the cops catch this lady. Not because I need more people to do our dirty work but it's because she has a similar type of magic like I do. Whenever I went near her, I felt her presence. Of course, I won't waste that potential. So I shot them with Jimmy Sr., a name for my signature tommy gun.
  42.
  43. I turned around to see the scared girl, still on her knees. Behind her is a piece of paper. I walked near her and picked the poster up. I put the flashlight near the poster. I raised my eyebrow to my face in the poster. This picture was like 3 years ago when I had way shorter hair. No wonder people who were supposed to hunt me down can't find me. Update your shit, police.
  44.
  45. At the other hand, the girl before me stuttered, "Y-you're Hilda Osborne, r-right?"
  46.
  47. I lightly nodded and gently said as I crumpled the poster into a ball, "Yes, miss. Why did you ask?"
  48.
  49. "Your tommy gun's barrel has inscriptions of your name."
  50.
  51. I unloaded my gun before looking at its barrel, preventing any harm. I raised my eyebrow and smiled, "You are right, clever miss. Anyway, what's your name?"
  52.
  53. "Viana."
  54.
  55. I complimented her, "Viana, what a nice name. About the job, you still need it?"
  56.
  57. Viana's POV
  58.
  59. My goodness, a well known criminal is talking to me and she is complimenting my name?! This is strange. Oh, well. At least I got a job at the age of 18 and perhaps a place to stay in.
  60.
  61. "U-um, thank you, m-ma'am. I got flattered from that compliment. I'm still getting the job. I'm very desperate for something stable unlike this place.", I said to the crimson coated woman.
  62.
  63. Hilda hummed in agreement. She said excitedly, "You will get your own room in my mansion, Viana."
  64.
  65. I dropped my jaw, "WHAT??!! Are you serious about that? If you are, I'm beyond grateful for that!"
  66.
  67. "Yes, I'm serious about that. There is one rule though.", she replied.
  68.
  69. "What rule-", Both Hilda and I got interrupted by the siren.
  70.
  71. Hilda ran to me and hold my right arm and said, "We have to go. The police might catch us."
  72.
  73. I nodded and we ran from the alley as fast as we could before the police gets us. Hilda was before me. I followed her directions and we went to the taxi station. We got the last taxi on time! Hilda opened the door and I went inside the taxi. She followed suit after. She slammed closed the door. The driver said to us, "Dames, where are you going?"
  74.
  75. "The Osborne Mansion, sir.", Hilda formally said to the driver.
  76.
  77. "Got ya, fam."
  78.
  79. I panicked and said to the driver, "Can we go there as fast as possible?", Hilda put her finger near my lips.
  80.
  81. "Shh... Calm down, Viana. Everything will be alright.", her calm voice said to me.
  82.
  83. The tensions on my body slowly disappeared. I took a deep breath before the engine of the taxi car started. I poked Hilda's shoulder and she looked at me, "What do you want?"
  84.
  85. "Can I sleep on your shoulder? The chase made me exhausted.", I begged.
  86.
  87. "Sure Viana, I'll wake you up when we arrived at our destination, okay?"
  88.
  89. "Okay, Hilda. Thank you for helping me anyway.", I said with streaks of happiness and tiredness. I laid my head on her shoulder. My left cheek felt the luxurious cotton on her coat and my right cheek felt the curls of her colorless hair. I closed my eyes and the next thing I see is darkness. I felt something touched my shoulder. I smiled as I napped.
