  1. ou don’t get to decide, if you say spanking is culturally acceptable, that only parents who do violence to their kids the ~right~ way get to do it. You’re giving blanket permission to society and HOPING that MOST parents will spank 'responsibly’, for whatever that definition is supposed to mean. But there’s a lot of shitty abusive behavior from shitty abusive parents that you’re allowing, under the umbrella of 'parental violence toward their children is acceptable’. You have no answer for that in your argument and no limitations you can effectively place on anyone. There’s not even a way to clearly draw the line between where spanking stops and physical abuse begins. At what age does it become acceptable to hit a child for bad behavior? Is it only abuse if the fist is closed when you hit the child? Does parental intent/motivation make a difference? Does it depend on how badly the kid is scarred by your actions, where it’s only abuse if they need therapy later on in life? You have to draw a whole lot of absolute bullshit distinctions between 'acceptable spanking’ and 'physical abuse’ that are subjective to each individual at BEST.
