Reinhold
The main character, age 17.

BACKSTORY:
Found as an infant on the doorstep of a brothel in a poor fishing village.  After a childhood filled with abuse, he ran away to join the army when he was twelve years old.  Having practiced with the sword during every spare moment since he was eight years old, he eventually became good enough to win the kingdom of Granache's Royal Swordsmanship Tournament.  Thanks to this, he caught the eye of the King himself and was personally selected to become Princess Marianne's personal bodyguard.

He is currently training under Arnaud in the art of swordsmanship, and is also being tutored in magic by Sylvie.  In the rare moment he has some downtime, he likes to draw.

KNOWN SPELLS:

Sparkle Shine
Cost: 1MP
Element: Light
Incantation: "Dancing wisps, gather before me and light my path."
Effect: forms several orbs of light that float around for a bit before dissipating.  Their longevity depends on how long you hold the spell, but the base is about five seconds.
It's a fun party trick!

Aqua Suspend
Cost: 2MP
Element: Water
Incantation: "Dew of life, come forth and quench my thirst."
Effect:  Forms a floating orb of water.  The base is pea-sized, though it can range up to the size of a watermelon.  It's possible to cast the spell multiple times and combine the water orbs, though this takes practice.

Tailwind
Cost: 3MP
Element: Wind
Incantation: "Howling winds, gather beneath my feet and guide me on my journey."
Effect:  Aided by the wind, the caster's speed increases a great deal.  The spell remains in effect until the caster stops moving.  Is more effective in combination with a flying spell, though it works just fine on land.  There is a rather large learning curve, as maneuvering becomes a fair bit more difficult.

Holy Shine
Cost: 4MP
Element: Light
Incantation: "Light of the heavens, cast down your brilliance and deliver me from my enemies."
Effect:   A shield of light appears in front of the user for an instant, dissipating when struck with enough force. Its strength depends on the caster's skill level, ranging from the durability of paper to about as strong as a thick wooden door.

Clay Spread
Cost: 2MP (base: 3MP)
Element: Earth
Incantation: "Be you red with the blood of sinners or black like the hearts of the wicked, heed my call and bring my enemies to their knees in penitence."
Effect: Forms and shoots six fist-sized clay projectiles at a target.  Provided that it's a direct hit, the clay sticks to the target.  Intended to subdue the target without injury.





Marianne
Princess of the kingdom of Granache, age 15.

APPEARANCE:
A young girl of lithe build, she has violet eyes and a lovely complexion, though her expression is usually one of disinterest or annoyance.  Her wavy blonde hair extends to the middle of her back, with a braid runnning along either side of her head normally held together in the back with a blue ribbon.

PERSONALITY:
Prone to bouts of moodiness and depression, she isn't known for being the most pleasant person to be around.

DESCRIPTION:
Raised without a mother, Marianne is especially attached to King Thierri, her father.  Her younger years were spent running around with Sylvie and Nicolette, though they seem to have drifted apart over the years.

She was attacked by her former bodyguard after spurning his advances, having seen him as nothing more than a friend prior to that point.  Fortunately, Nicolette was able to intervene in time, beating him senseless before he could actually cause her any physical harm.  She suffered a large amount of mental trauma, however, which caused her to push others away even more than she already had been.

Marianne is very close to Melanie and Luciana, and seems to be mending things with Sylvie and Nicolette.  And due to his relentlessly aggravating niceness, she's pretty much been forced to consider Reinhold as her friend.

She can't stand Sir Gregory, though.  And she absolutely hates Monique.

Nicolette
Captain of the Royal Guard and daughter of Sir Gregory, age 16.

APPEARANCE:
Nicolette is tall (for a girl) and athletic, though she's never managed to get beyond her naturally light build.  She's inherited her mother's blue eyes and silver hair, which she normally wears as a long ponytail that extends down to her waist.

PERSONALITY:
Tomboyish and foulmouthed, Nicolette is exceedingly casual around everyone.  Though she does have a habit of teasing her friends and takes it rather poorly when she's on the recieving end of said teasing, she has a generally friendly disposition towards anyone who hasn't angered her.  She's also prone to keeping secrets regardless of whether or not they're actually worth keeping, and has a notoriously large appetite.

DESCRIPTION:
Named for her grandfather Nicolas, Nicolette was exceptionally close to him growing up.  After he fell ill when she was eight years old, she promised him that she would achieve her dream of becoming a knight through the usage of the polearms that he was reknowned for, dropping the magic/swordsmanship combination that her father had been teaching her.

Though it's taken a lot of hard work, Nicolette joined the Royal Guard and eventually rose to the rank of Captain.  Her dream still seems to be far away, but she's on her way there.

Nicolette is best friends with Sylvie, and Reinhold seems to have taken the position of her rival and #2 friend.  Though she had been avoiding Marianne due to having gotten fed up with her badmouthing of Sir Gregory, their relationship also seems to be in the mend.

Back when they were little kids, Nicolette had a massive crush on Princess Luciana.  She's recently confided in Sylvie that she now has a crush on... someone.




Sylvie Roseline Granache
Mage trainee and daughter of Sir Vincent, age 16.

APPEARANCE:
Sylvie is shorter than her best friend Nicolette, with an average build and slightly above average chest that only serve to belie the great physical strength that she has inherited from her father.  Her brown hair is normally kept in two braids that extend slightly below her shoulders, and she is always wearing a pair of glasses.

PERSONALITY:
Very shy and constantly worried about potential improprieties, Sylvie is rather slow to open up to strangers.  But once she does, people are always surprised to see that she's actually able to keep up with Nicolette for the most part, countering her best friend's teasing with both physical violence and barbs of her own.  Sylvie also possesses a strong sense of duty, and is quick to come to blows with people who anger her.
Possessing a deep interest in magic, Sylvie is constantly disappointed at the lack of people her own age that share her passion.

DESCRIPTION:
The eldest daughter of Sir Vincent and his wife Angelique, Sylvie adores her father a great deal and wishes to someday be able to approach his level of power.  Trained by him from a young age at how to fight, he prevented her from even starting to learn magic until she recently proved herself able to satisfactorily handle herself in a physical altercation.

After learning the basics of magic, her father was elated to find that her magical capacity is far greater than the average.  After pulling a few strings, he arranged things so that she could learn magic at the castle, primarily from Sir Gregory and Niklaus Sucher.

Sylvie is best friends with Nicolette, and they spend most of their free time together, eating massive amounts of food and chatting about various topics.  Though her relationship with Princess Marianne became more strained over the years, she's recently started to try and open up more to her.

And as of late, her crush on Reinhold has become increasingly blatant, despite how much she denies it to anyone who brings it up.

Melanie
Marianne's personal maid, age 15.

APPEARANCE:
Melanie is small and cute, with green eyes and a chest that is just a bit smaller than Sylvie's. Her jet-black hair extends to her upper back when loose, though she normally keeps it tied into twintails with a pair of white ribbons.  On account of her poor eyesight, she's always wearing a pair of glasses.

PERSONALITY:
It might be due to her upbringing or perhaps it just comes naturally, but Melanie is an extremely patient person.  She's able to deal with Marianne's moodiness better than anyone else, and can also deal with Nicolette's usual foulmouthed nature without it offending her.  Perhaps it's due to her ease at getting along with everyone that the court Archmage, Niklaus Sucher, has fallen head-over-heels in love with her.

But despite this, Melanie is rather... strange when she first wakes up in the morning, acting quite different from her usual even-tempered self.  And while her morning lewdness is well-known among her friends, it's unknown as to whether or not Melanie herself is aware of this.

DESCRIPTION:
Born to a family of Lindwurm ranchers, Melanie started helping out with the family business at an early age.  When she was ten years old, her father heard that the King was looking to hire a maid around his daughters age to serve as her personal attendant, and he jumped at the chance to have his daughter get in with royalty.

With the single request of "be a good girl," he sent her off to apply for the job, and luckily enough, she was the only one who got the job.  She quickly hit off with the Marianne, Nicolette and Sylvie, who were all around the same age, and gradually got accustomed to her (much less stressful) life at the castle.

And thanks to having taken all of the the castle's head butler Arnaud's advice to heart, she's currently on the fast track to becoming head maid, even though she's only fifteen years old.




Luciana Violetta di Marconetti:
The fourth princess of the kingdom of Marconetti, age 15.

APPEARANCE:
Luciana is just as small and of similar build to her best friend Marianne, though she does beat her out in the chest area.  She has long, wavy red hair that normally hangs loose, and she's also inherited her mother's sharp green eyes.

PERSONALITY:
Normally, Luciana is playful and teasing while among her friends, and also rather flirtatious around people of the opposite sex.  She also has a tendency to scheme and plot when she has a goal in mind, and will show no mercy to those who would do her or her loved ones harm.

Despite her slightly selfish personality, she is a dutiful daughter and always puts her father's wishes above her own... for better or worse.

DESCRIPTION:
The seventh child of King Celestino and the first that he had with his second wife Lisette, Luciana has always been especially close to her parents.  Her elder sisters from her father's first wife were not at all appreciative of this, which has caused her a lot of grief throughout her life and also made her QUITE bitter about the entire thing.

Despite this unpleasantness back home, Luciana has always enjoyed visiting the neighboring kingdom of Granache where she would stay with her uncle Gregory and his family.  While there, she struck up a strong friendship with Princess Marianne and also developed an interest in her aunt's grimoire collection, both of which have continued on to the present.

Luciana is now a rather strong magicuser (though she keeps it a secret from her father), and has aspirations to go adventuring one day... though that depends entirely on who her father decides that she will marry.
