On-site blog vs PBN

On-site blog vs PBN
I am trying to decide between the two, which is better to focus on? I think PBN would be better since then I can link out to other sites too, boosting more sites. If I go with the PBN route should I even bother with an on-site blog? I mean the articles that would be used for the blog can be used on the PBN instead.

I would suggest to build a blog on your domain with quality articles. First, these articles can rank and so they give you direct traffic from search engines.
While pbn are mostly just for backlinks. Its a longer way for the customer to get through to your site. Think about if a customer click in SERPs on your PBN blog post he also needs to click the link to your website. You will loose a lot of traffic by using a PBN as traffic source versus developing your own blog onsite.

I use the blog for filler (decent quality) articles + supporting articles for my money pages (best of etc), to improve internal linking. Some of my blog articles actually get me the most traffic as per @memme's comments, so I just added a little more content with amazon links and make sales most days from these!
So for me, the blog is super important.
PBN is also very important to improve rankings but guest posts and links from manufacturers/quality niche related sites are extremely powerful. If you are going for easy KW's, you do not need PBN's, just a few good sourced guest posts.
