  1. So carrying on with the symbolism in the book and film I would like to deal with the model of the society and totalitarian system in the hospital. I’m not going to give any definitions of totalitarianism because everyne know what this is all about.
  2.
  3. The head of the hospital is Mildred Ratched, a middle-aged and uncompromising nurse who is seemingly nice but she hides the sadist’s face. Rachet intimidates her patients that she will inform their families about bad deeds and urges them to report everyone. Rachet applies electroconvulsive therapies and lobotomies in some cases. It all has its purpose. The purpose is to incapacitate patients.
  4. The totaliratian system is also associated with propaganda. Patients are told that their unit is the best place in the world. The hospital authorities organize them Christmas and provide a good ambience.
  5. Everything works perfectly until Randle McMuprhy arrives there. A thief, hooligan who pretends to be insane in order to avoid prison. He’s the rebell one and eventually his rebellion brings him to death but it’s kind of victorious death that makes the patients self-confident and they are no longer afraid to express their opinion. Most of them leave the unit and Ratched never regains her power again.
  6. To sum it up, the book and the movie shows the viewer what nonsense the totalitarian system is. It also teaches that a human has a power to oppose evil, threats and violence by the attitude of heroism. The fact of fighting, hatred of evil gives a person a sense of dignity and often brings victory.
