  1. ==============================================================================================
  2. Hello fellow anons, welcome to the 4CHAN DOSPACK version 1.36 (formerly known as DOS MEGAPACK)
  3. ==============================================================================================
  4.
  5. * This pack aims to provide an easy-to-use and fun experience for the average user who has basic or even zero knowledge of DOS
  6. * This pack consists mostly of late era DOS games released between 1992 and 1997 (before Win95 became the new standard)
  7. * This pack has games chosen from a variety of genres, it encompasses most of the famous titles released for the DOS platform
  8.
  9. * All games have been pre-configured so no need to mess around with SETSOUND or SETUP.EXE in DOSBOX
  10. * All games work without the original CD, some have been cracked and others have an altered .ini file
  11.
  12. * Most games have additional patches/tweaks applied to them, see the extensive list down below
  13. * Most games (FPS) use modern controls (WASD + Mouse) and high resolutions (back then that was 640x480) if available
  14.
  15. How to use:
  16.
  17. - Unpack the .7z file in a location you desire. When unpacking, choose "Unpack to \DOSGAMES" and not "unpack files here"
  18. - Double-click included DOSBOX.EXE and it should jump straight into the menu, where you can choose from 80+ different games
  19. - Some games have a submenu with sequels/expansions or other options, for example Quake 1 also has 2 expansion packs included
  20. - Example pic of what it should look like after starting it up: https://imgur.com/a/K6rN863 (older version)
  21.

  104. WWF 4
  105. Zyclunt (aka Blade Warrior, obscure south korean shareware game, there never was a full release for DOS. Can be found together with "Night" under Asian Games submenu)
  106.
  107. Furthermore, most games (where possible) come with an updated DOS4GW Extender (DOS/32A by Narech K.) or CWSDPMI Extender (C. Sandmann), this should help with stability and speed.
  108. I've also done my best to cut down on the overall size of the pack, by deleting unnecessary files and big FMV's. The (7)zipped size is now 1.3GB.
  109.
  110. Tip #1: if you cannot exit a game the normal way (exit through menu) press CTRL+F9 to close Dosbox instantly.
  111. Tip #2: some games don't have a normal way to change the mouse sensitivity, instead, adjust the DPI of your mouse accordingly.
  112. Tip #3: when a game runs too slow or too fast in DosBox, try raising or reducing the cycles, do this with CTRL+F11 and CTRL+F12.
  113. Tip #4: press the key combination ALT+ENTER to switch to fullscreen (and vice versa) and ALT+TAB to switch between DosBox and Windows.
  114.
  115. P.S. if a game requires a secret password, just leave it empty and press enter, or type something random and press enter.
  116. Also make sure to read the various tips and tricks hidden in each submenu (not all games have one), they can be quite useful.
  117.
  118. Final word by the author: A lot of time went into pre-configuring and applying tweaks to the games.
  119. This may not be the biggest compilation out there (this wasn't my goal), but i'm sure it's one of the most finetuned ones.
  120. It can be played without any frontend software such as D-Fend, all you need is DosBox.
  121. If you want to help me make this pack more popular, feel free to pass on the MEGA link on for example /vr.
  122. This pack was assembled and compiled throughout 2019. Although this pack was compiled with DosBox in mind, the games should work on real (MS or Free)DOS hardware that supports Sound Blaster 16.
  123. The interactive menu however will have to be edited, since real DOS cannot work with virtual mounted drives (in this pack, the map DOSGAMES is mounted as a virtual "E" drive).
  124.
  125. - revision 19 march 2020: implemented Dark Forces mouselook fix (DeHacker) by CHEATER and deleted the GlovePIE solution, Hexen 2: fixed a weird bug with CONFIG.CFG being located in the wrong folder causing player to be stuck at spawn.
  126. - revision 26 march 2020: introduced new game "Abuse" (registered version). Also fixed a very small but important bug, the novert utility would remain active in the background after playing Alien: Trilogy, causing some other games to malfunction.
  127. - revision 30 march 2020: added interactive menu sounds, slightly revamped some menus. Added sourceport Vavoom for Hexen 1 (now supports higher resolutions, but can run slow on older processors). Lastly, exchanged SIGIL 1.0 for SIGIL 1.21.
  128. - revision 4 april 2020: added bot support for DOOM/MBF! this means you can now (optionally) play the singleplayer campaigns with a sidekick that's either a dog or a marine (they are dumb but do the job). version number changed to 1.32c to differentiate from previous versions.
  129. - revision 8 april 2020: switched Lara's custom model (after some consideration) for another high polygon model (ripped TR3 model) and now accurately portrays Lara and it even gives her a braid (missing in original Tomb Raider).
  130. - revision 9 april 2020: found another way to circumvent Lord of the Realm's cd protection (before, the whole CD image was copied to the game folder). Now the LORDS2 folder went from 300 mb to 100 mb, so the entire .RAR package also became alot smaller.
  131. - revision 10 april 2020: since some HDD space was freed up after the last revision, i decided to add another game: Shadow Warrior, you can find it under the same section as Blood. Similar with the other Build games, buildmousefix 1.1 was applied.
  132. - revision 13 april 2020: tiny revision, tweaked the DUKE3D.CFG a bit more so that the Y/X mouse axis are evenly balanced. By now the pack is pretty refined i reckon, unless a bug magically appears, expect future updates (if any) to roll out less frequently.
  133. - revision 23 april 2020: added new game "Ultima VIII" which has the latest patch (2.12) and adlib patch installed. Also removed Grand Prix 2's keyboard steering assist which made it feel like driving on rails, now it's more challenging and fun.
  134. - revision 25 april 2020: updated CHEATER'S Dark Forces DeHacker from version 1.0 to 1.2. Now DF is configured to not have auto-aim on by default, this makes the game more fun and challenging. Also bumped up the version number to 1.32d to differentiate from previous versions.
  135. - revision 2 may 2020: updated Duke Nukem 3D from version 1.4 to 1.5 (although it will still say 1.4 during startup) and added a new game, Jazz JackRabbit (under same section as Lion King), i hope you'll enjoy this release of the 4chan dospack!
  136.
  137. - bugfix 8 may 2020: discovered a bug in Magic Carpet, it would crash when changing spells. Fixed this by updating to Magic Carpet Plus, a later iteration of the game. Also limited the game's cycles to 125000 because it ran way too fast with default cycles. Press "R" for 640x480
  138. - bugfix 9 may 2020: there was a bug with Descent 2, it wouldn't accept 640x480 resolution. Updated both games to their last versions (1.4a and 1.2 respectively) and now it works fine. I hope there are no more bugs! But if there are any... i'll be back to fix them :)
  139.
  140. - bugfix/revision 11 may 2020: turns out Jazz JackRabbit simply refuses to run through any .BAT file, so after trying every solution i opted to remove it from the pack, however, since it felt wrong to delete a game i decided to add 2 more instead! (Realms of Chaos + Death Rally)
  141. - revision 13 may 2020: technically i didn't want to add games to the pack anymore, but i found 2 obscure korean DOS games that i thought were worth adding: Night and Zyclunt, also moved Tetris to the classics section, version number is now 1.33a
  142. - revision 15 may 2020: tiny revision, today CHEATER released v1.3 of his DarkForces DeHacker so i incorporated it directly into the pack, now DF can be played with a crosshair and mouse handling was slightly improved (better Y/X axis balancing)
  143. - revision 20 may 2020: re-added Quake expansion pack "Scourge of Armagon" by request. Also added the missing Keen titles (1-3 and 6, restructured the Keen.bat menu). Added cmd line parameter for Blood (-noaim) to remove any form of autoaim. version is now 1.33b
  144. - revision 23 may 2020: merged DOSBOX.EXE into the pack, installing is no longer necessary, just click DOSBOX.EXE to start the menu. Added missing background music (by Frank Klepacki) for Command & Conquer by request. Version number is now 1.33c
  145.
  146. - revision 27 may 2020: pretty big revision so splitting it into a few separate lines. First of all, all menus got an overhaul and now look like a proper DOS menu. Intro screen with music was added. Sega Genesis emulator + games were added (see SEGA Games in the list above)
  147. > Asterix & Obelix added, Princess Maker 2 added, Sonic DOS game added, some other games tweaked (cycles, settings). The pack is now portable, you can simply copy and paste it anywhere in any folder and it will work just by opening DOSBOX.EXE (version is now 1.34)
  148. - revision 28 may 2020: added Epic Pinball and more Genesis games (see list above). Pack is now available in .7z (7-zip) format, thus the overall size shrunk a bit. 7Z file is now the latest.
  149. - revision 3 june 2020: big update: added Al-Qadim, Archimedean Dynasty, Ultima 7, Crusader: No Remorse. Also exchanged Tennis Elbow, Magic Carpet 2 and Crusader: No Regret for their full versions. All games are now full versions except one (MegaRace 2). version number is now 1.35)
  150. - revision 5 june 2020: minor revision, added colored main menu and installed a small utility that hides the annoying blinking cursor while in menu. Also edited SKI OR DIE's command line so now it uses the superior adlib audio (over the previously used PC SPEAKER audio).
  151. - revision 6 june 2020: minor revision, added new intro menu song, added 2 new games: Syndicate Plus (bundled with C&C) and Mass Destruction (bundled with Armored Fist). Also fixed a bug with 2 games not properly playing digital music (SkyNet and Tennis Elbow).
  152. - revision 7 june 2020: by request of the /vr chads, added 2 shmups: Tyrian 2000 and Raptor. Also added Civilization, bundled together with Lords 2. Changed Jungle Strike's cycles from auto to 10.000 for more smooth gameplay. Expect more requests to be added later!
  153. - revision 10 june 2020: added a whole bunch of requested games over the course of a few days, check out the newly created Requests section to check them out (most of them are old dungeon crawlers). Another interesting game you will find there is 'Theme Hospital'.
  154. - revision 12 june 2020: added full compressed soundtracks for: Mechwarrior 2, Powerslave and Alien: Trilogy. No need to mount CD audio anymore, it's now included in the pack, just start the game normally. Also alternative music added for Archimedean Dynasty (not the original OST)
  155. - revision 15 june 2020: reworked all menus to share an identical color scheme (white/blue), removed CLR.COM as the EGA color changing is no longer necessary due to usage of escape codes. Changed version number to 1.36 to reflect all recent changes made since last post on /vr
  156. - revision 16 june 2020: tiny revision, exchanged Abuse for another version (that has music in it). However to hear the music you must be able to play MPU-401, normally a full DosBox install will provide this. Also added music to Grand Theft Auto (when you get in a car).
  157. - bugfix 16 june 2020: woops, small bugfix, thanks to some anons who pointed out that Syndicate will not save properly. Now it's own root folder is being mounted on drive C and it works again. Also made menu colors a bit brighter, thanks to another anon for pointing that out.
  158. - revision 20 june 2020: added some new games: Night Raid, Death of Dark Shadows, Beats of Rage, Flashback (genesis version). Exchanged Abuse for version 2.00 and music included (mpu-401). The Korean game "Night" now has full soundtrack added. Possibly the last release guys!
  159.
  160. CURRENT ROADMAP: From this point on probably only bugfixing (if you guys can spot them!) It was a great run, thanks for those who supported me in making this pack, see you on /vr perhaps!
  161.
  162. Have fun! (c) BasedDOSGuy 2019 - 2020
