  1. The Lucchese Crime Family origins began in the Carroll Gardens region of South Brooklyn, in the early 20th century. It was originally known as the Sackett Street Devils led by James Strinati and Michael Varrone, this small gang began to move on from normal gang activities and started to loan shark, rob local Deli’s and fight with the rising black population in Bed-Stuy, soon this gang started to encompass much of South Brooklyn as its territory, eating up all of the smaller gangs in the area. By the early 1930’s the gang now led by Ralph ‘’Ralphie’’ Passarelli began to fall apart, smaller gangs were beginning to take ahold of the territories previously held by the Sackett Street Devils, this moment of unrest allowed for a small sect of the gang to come in and forcefully seize power, these men we’re Salvatore Chinnici, Henry Scarpa Johnny DiMeo and Donnie Falcone. After killing Ralph Passarelli they quickly took control over the remains of the Sackett Street Devils and pushed for a more dominant approach quickly either crushing the remaining gangs, or absorbing them.

  3. This brutal war forced the commission of the Italian Crime Families to become involved, they gave the leader of the Sackett Street Devils a decision either to begin to work under the commission, listening to Commission rules and kicking up regularly to them or to dissolve the gang, the gang decided to adhere by Commission rules Salvatore Chinnici, saw this as an in for them. The gang began to model themselves after the La Cosa Nostra and with Commission approvable became the Lucchese crime Family, they still kick up regularly to the commission and control a large part of South Brooklyn, but were unable to join up.
  4. The family ran into several problems circa 1949, when new gangs started to sprout up, trying to challenge the authority of Salvatore Chinnici and associates, the gangs began to rob stores protected by the Luccheses, this resulted in the rounding up of about 30 kids from the gangs ranging in age from about 15-22, they were brought to the Gowanus Canal at about 1:30 AM all 30 we’re found tied up at the bottom of the Canal all strapped into their seats with cinderblocks tied onto there legs. This was known as the “Daycare Massacre” due to the amount of kids that were killed.
