- Now, I feel that the banning of mawilite is unjust and was reached to a decision poorly. I've been the fairy gym leader for 10 months now, with at least 33 battles. I've had some unofficial ones for trials and tests, as well as some battle for fun, always using the same team. Now Mega Mawile is a huge advantage for my team, otherwise I can be swept by any number of fast poison types, or damaging poison types.
- But now it's been banned.
- So, this matter aside, as I understand my gym battles are... somewhat different... than most OU battles, I'm going to share some of the teams I've gone against that prove that Mega Mawile is essential, yet not broken (unlike some frogs... cough cough).
- BARE IN MIND - For the most part, logic is based on my Mawile but I will include other sets. I run 248hp, 244spdf and 16atk
- COMMON POKEMON
- 1. Mega Metagross
- So, with it being fairy, of course you will run into a Mega Metagross. This is one of the top threats in my gym because of moves such as meteor mash and bullet punch. In fact, this is why I referred to having a bulky Mawile. So this is standard:
- 196 Atk Mega Metagross Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 190-224 (62.7 - 73.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- 196 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Bullet Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 75-88 (24.7 - 29%) -- 99.7% chance to 4HKO
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 136 HP / 0 Def Mega Metagross: 190-224 (56.7 - 66.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- So I swords dance. Even though, a bullet punch can kill me next turn. So it's a guessing game. Even with one sucker punch, I don't outspeed Mega Metagross to beat priority.
- If I run VGC15 Mega Mawile:
- 252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 136 HP / 0 Def Mega Metagross: 232-274 (69.2 - 81.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- 196 Atk Mega Metagross Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 190-224 (62.5 - 73.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- 196 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 75-88 (24.6 - 28.9%) -- 99.6% chance to 4HKO
- Even if Mega Mawile doesn't fait, then the next pokemon can kill it, making me sack off one of my main team members.
- Even with a substitute Mega Mawile, there is no guarantee I can kill the Mega Metagross with a sucker punch that allows me to continue on with it for the rest of the battle.
- 2. Mega Scizor
- Mega Scizor is usually the last thing on the opponents team because they like the bullet punch sweep. This is understandable, as even a geomancy Xerneas will die to it after two hits.
- 84 Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 184 HP / 28 Def Xerneas: 200-236 (45.5 - 53.7%) -- 40.2% chance to 2HKO
- And that's a bulky swords dancer. But that's besides the point. Against my Mega Mawile, a bulky Mega Scizor is no threat whatsoever.
- 84 Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 81-96 (26.7 - 31.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
- Except:
- +2 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 248 HP / 0+ Def Mega Scizor: 153-180 (44.6 - 52.4%) -- 21.5% chance to 2HKO
- So provided no crits, I get the job done. But then his pokemon can proceed to kill me, with the oh so common talonflame or any other priority user that isn't burning me. But this is a bulky Scizor.
- +2 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Scizor: 199-235 (70.8 - 83.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- +2 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Scizor: 168-198 (59.7 - 70.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- +2 252+ Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 198-234 (65.3 - 77.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- +2 252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Scizor: 246-290 (87.5 - 103.2%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
- 2 252+ Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 198-234 (65.1 - 76.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- Again, I have the potential to kill it, but Mega Mawile is then rendered useless to a priority user which is so staple in the meta. VGC15 Mawile is a game of chance, and a substitute Mawile is irrelevant against this Mega scizor.
- 3. Heatran
- 'Why is this an issue?' I hear you cry. After all, I have banned it. Well, long story short, it's the reason I run my specially defensive Mega Mawile.
- 252 SpA Heatran Overheat vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Mega Mawile: 350-414 (115.5 - 136.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO - Nuff' said
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 28 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 128-151 (38.7 - 45.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
- 252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 28 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 157-185 (47.5 - 56%) -- 82.4% chance to 2HKO
- Literally, that's it. I've banned it sure, but in OU tournaments, it's possible to run into them.
- 4. Gliscor
- Look. This is obvious. There is no way a Mega Mawile can deal with this sort of stress in its life.
- 0 Atk Gliscor Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 170-204 (56.1 - 67.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Gliscor: 162-192 (45.7 - 54.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Poison Heal
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Gliscor: 96-114 (27.1 - 32.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Poison Heal
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Gliscor: 186-220 (52.8 - 62.5%) -- 75.4% chance to 2HKO after Poison Heal
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Gliscor: 111-131 (31.5 - 37.2%) -- 47.6% chance to 4HKO after Poison Heal
- Gliscor still outspeeds. However, the VGC set:
- 252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Gliscor: 199-235 (56.2 - 66.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Poison Heal
- 252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Gliscor: 119-140 (33.6 - 39.5%) -- 99.4% chance to 4HKO after Poison Heal
- 0 Atk Gliscor Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 170-204 (55.9 - 67.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- And what's to stop a roost stall? With attack investments, Mega Mawile is gone. Sub set give me potential to kill the Gliscor, but again, it goes down to chance.
- 5. Landorus -T
- This is a huge threat that I've ran into about... 80% of my battles. It's so versatile that even Verlisify wants this thing gone. Well... it's Verlisify... but regardless, the threat level is there.
- 0 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 246-290 (81.1 - 95.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- -1 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Landorus-T: 70-83 (18.3 - 21.7%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers
- 252+ Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 320-380 (105.6 - 125.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
- -1 252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Landorus-T: 119-141 (37.3 - 44.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
- 252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Landorus-T: 179-211 (56.1 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- As you can see, RIP. Gone. No reason to live. The ground shakes so much that it just implodes. It's gone. No problem.
- 6. EVERY BULKY SCALD USER IN THE GAME
- The crippling effect of scald is so good, all bulky water Pokemon run it and completely cripple Mega Mawile if the 30%-but-not-really burn chance triggers.
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Milotic: 189-223 (48 - 56.7%) -- 37.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Milotic: 113-133 (28.7 - 33.8%) -- 98.6% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 207-244 (48.5 - 57.2%) -- 46.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 123-145 (28.8 - 34%) -- 99.3% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 0 Atk Gastrodon Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 152-182 (50.1 - 60%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 180-213 (45.6 - 54%) -- 3.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 0 Atk Quagsire Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 156-186 (51.4 - 61.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 126-150 (31.9 - 38%) -- 95.6% chance to 3HKO
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Slowbro: 106-126 (26.9 - 31.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
- 4 SpA Mega Slowbro Scald vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Mega Mawile: 90-106 (29.7 - 34.9%) -- 13.8% chance to 3HKO
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Suicune: 148-175 (36.6 - 43.3%) -- 98.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Suicune: 88-104 (21.7 - 25.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 0 SpA Suicune Scald vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Mega Mawile: 66-78 (21.7 - 25.7%) -- 0.6% chance to 4HKO
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Alomomola: 205-243 (38.3 - 45.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 16+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Alomomola: 122-144 (22.8 - 26.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
- SpA Alomomola Scald vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Mega Mawile: 36-43 (11.8 - 14.1%) -- possible 8HKO
- Etc, etc, etc.
- Overall
- Yes, in normal battles, you will not end up staying in all the time. Switching is a thing. And yes, the chances of someone running my specific set is also low, hence I included sub and VGC15 sets. But overall, from my years of using it, as well as from looking at all the stats further, I believe that there is no need to make a ban on this pokemon because it can be so easily dealt with it's unreal. Especially if we consider Landorus-T usage, which last time I checked was 15% over every showdown team in the top 200 or so, is a huge number. Furthermore, with the ability to use Lando-I on the site, you'd be a fool not to run specially defensive Mega Mawile.
- And yes, my main grip is that in the Fairy gym specifically, you will undoubtedly run into two or three of the pokemon mentioned and have to play around them. Yes, it's possible with other team members, but the damage done to the team doing this overall is unbelievably detrimental that there is no point.
- And now with the ban... why even try to run the gym when any poison type pokemon with a scarf or that is just fast in the first place have free roaming... there really isn't a point anymore. So I'm requesting a redo on the vote from before, the vote that was in my eyes, as well as the eyes of others, so unjust that we don't feel like playing competitively anymore.
